  • Video of two of the three 1,00hp Cooper-Bessemer twin tandem natural gas compressor engines running at the Rockport, WV compressor station. This station is operated by Columbia Gas Transmission and is scheduled to be decommissioned in 2014. The music provided by these old (1913-1919) engines at 120 rpm is unmatched by any modern engine. I hope a sugar daddy can be found to preserve this station since not many of these compressor stations still have the big iron providing power!

Thank you very much for posting this video. I particularly enjoyed hearing the exhaust beat, and wanted to know what it sounded like outside. Was any use made of the engine cooling water? Like to heat domestic hot water within the building or space heating in wintertime. Facinating, and great that you have recorded a piece of history for posterity.

It's nothing but an empty field now, everything is gone.
