  • Mercedes CEO CLEARS interest in Max Verstappen
    ---------------------
Mercedes-Benz Group CEO Ola Källenius has made clear the company's interest in signing Max Verstappen, suggesting that the three-time Formula 1 champion would look good in silver, the iconic Mercedes color. In an interview with Sky Sports, Källenius noted that the regulation change in 2026 offers an opportunity for all teams and drivers, hinting that Mercedes could be an attractive option for Verstappen in the future.
Källenius stressed the importance of having the best drivers in the best cars and expressed confidence that Mercedes could create a competitive package to attract Verstappen. "It's also about 2026; it's a new start, new luck and new rules. That also means an opportunity for everyone - who knows what will happen? But it would look good dressed in silver, wouldn't it?" commented Källenius.
The Mercedes CEO also mentioned that, with Adrian Newey's departure from Red Bull and the uncertainty surrounding the new Ford engine, Red Bull could find itself in a vulnerable position, which Mercedes could take advantage of to tempt Verstappen. "The best drivers want to drive the best cars; our job is to create the best package," Källenius continued.
Furthermore, Källenius was optimistic about Mercedes' present and future, highlighting the team's performance improvements and its potential to return to the top of Formula 1. "When you have seasons where things don't go as well as they used to, you sit in front of the TV a bit frustrated, but the team has always worked hard and the car is getting better and better. Who knows, if we can take the next step, maybe we'll be there again," he concluded.
These statements reinforce Mercedes' intention to remain a competitive and top-tier team in Formula 1, always looking for the best talent available on the grid.
