    Never noticed at the time but the headline referring to the 'footpath enthusiast' is right behind Fiona Armstrong. Funny the things you notice almost 30 years later.
    Glad this was uploaded, it's practically an historical document and should be preserved.

    The petard was a small hollowed-out fuse lit bomb that often was set before castle gates. The phrase to be "hoisted by your own petard." meant being blow-up by your own bomb.

      It's actually a quote from Shakespeare's Hamlet, it's 'hoist with his own petard'.

    That Saville joke feels so-foreshadowing

    • @billythepigeon7345

      It was, all Jimmy Savile jokes from the BBC are, everyone in the BBC knew the truth, but kept shtum to protect their jobs. The worst was Esther Ranzen, she founded childline while at the same time keeping quiet about Savile to protect her position with the beeb.

      It's now well known that it was an open secret within the BBC. It does put a new light on those jokes now though.

      John Lydon clearly knew about him as far back as 1978. It seems pretty certain that literally everyone knew about it by 1993. You just weren't allowed to talk about it. Except, Angus Dreayton had no fear (although, apparently he should have). It's just amazing that the editors allowed that line through -- they were on the BBC, weren't they?

    • @Rikipedia42
      @Rikipedia42 Před rokem

      It really was an open secret, people like Angus Deayton (who also wrote some of his scripted parts for this series) we’re trying to shed light onto their crimes the only way they could. It was the same with Weinstein and his crimes, If you get a spare ten seconds take a look at Seth MacFarlane’s 2013 Oscar joke, just look at the anger in his face as he tells it…

    • @Rikipedia42
      @Rikipedia42 Před rokem

      And as Greg Mark says, John Lydon definitely tried to shed light to things with Savile and even the BBC presenter immediately says (paraphrasing)“we aren’t going to air libel”

      The police in both instances were badly trained and ill disciplined.Properly trained officers would know how to safely restrain a suspect without harming the suspect or themselves.These cops were just lazy and malicious.
