    This is such a great channel and this line of content is absolutely enriching for a lot of us who've picked up Chess during this pandemic. Not only is this intellectually stimulating, it's an entertainment for the refined senses. Thanks a lot Levy for everything you've done for us so far. I can only imagine how testing these would be for your patience but there's a whole community really indebted for your service.
    PS: would love these sessions with 1200+ ratings, if possible.

    • @dominiks5068
      @dominiks5068 Před 4 lety +4

      it's less risky, but also a lot easier for black to defend. in the king's gambit you need to know some theory in a lot of lines as black, whereas in the vienna you'll usually be completely fine if you just play logical moves. so it's similar, but definitely not the same thing

    • @totalhysteria
      @totalhysteria Před 3 lety

      If you are the kind of person who likes to gamble at the Black Jack table in the casino, Kings Gambit will suit you very well. If you prefer a slow grind at the poker table, play the Vienna system.
      The best option, usually depends on your style of play. If you look for sharp positions and dynamic play, 2. f4 is the way to go. However, if you aim for a solid position with less risks involved, 2. Nc3 is more favourable.

    I know at the 25 min timestamp you say you'll never win it (the e pawn) like that, but i think you can pretty easily win that e pawn exactly with the queen move cissorz suggested.
    queen c7, rook e1, cxf3, qxf3, b5 kicking teh knight, and then after he retreats, you have 2 attackers on a pawn defended 1 time by the e rook. Moreover, the knight takes e5 move would then be attacking the white queen w/ tempo. While I know that earlier on you said trading bishops for knights is incorrect, winning 4 pts for the equivalent of 3.1 points (if you value the bishop as 3.1 rather than 3) + tempo on the queen and chasing the knight back, is definitely worth it.

    • @pawelzepeterinma9657
      @pawelzepeterinma9657 Před 3 lety

      also if the knight moves forward, take with the dark squared bishop and after pawn recaptures, queen recaptures- white would have queenxb7 winning back the mats, but the tempo of developing the kingside rook on an open file attacking the queen with tempo more than makes up for it I feel. bc since the queen is now on d5.. where is his queen really going to go?

    40% chance that someone will play Queen H5 as white around 800 elo, Gotham? More like 76% chance, LOL. Get yourself stuck around 800 elo, where if you win a game, you only get 8 points rating, then try playing some of the community. It does make a difference... rather than creating a smurf account, and playing vs 5-6 players from that elo before moving to higher elo...
    I'm surprised you've been using chess.com way longer than most, yet haven't noticed the difference in match making vs smurfs and people the system believes actually belong in their perspective rating and their rate of gain, when it comes to points. The system will match players based on Elo, yes, but also at the rate at which their points are being gained, and what their points are worth to an opponent. So if you're literally in 800 elo, but have 2000 games, this applies to you. And thats where the most populated community of the site is, in this "Hidden MMR" that you smurfs never see. Maybe you do see it, 40% of the time, as you're smurfing... Idk but watching your streams, I don't see it on your streams. I see you guys create new accounts, smurf, but then move through the ranks quickly.
    I would've shown him the Bowlder attack, honestly, its easier to open Sicilian and defend vs that Queen crap for beginners, imo. I teach kids the sicilian as black. Kids can remember Pawn C5, then pawn e6, if the queen comes out or white bishop, but I see adult players mess up the French opening as black, all the time, lol. I think if little 7 year old kids can stop that queen crap with a 99% success rate, I'm not sure why the adult community in chess is having a hard time.
    Probably because coaches are teaching them harder openings with more risk to losing because of 1 mistake, rather than remember 2 pawn moves that literally lead into everything else and defend you at the same time because of the octagonal nature of the chess board, along with white's choice of squares he is wishing to control /attack, simply by choosing E4 as his first move.
    You didn't even show him the layered attack white has on black during this, with possible fried liver ideas, very dangerous for black. If not show him everything, why even show him the French? He is better off knowing sicilian and so are most noobs. Tell ya, I learned the French too when I first started as black, from a coach like you. And the coaching wasn't bad, except he didn't take into consideration capabilities of the average person, vs himself, like you're doing with this guy. French might seem like cake to you, but I'll tell you now, from a noob's perspective, learning it, was the hardest opening out of all black's openings, because again, I had to get punished, over n over n over, by white to learn all the things I needed to do or watch out for, and you cover less than half of them here lol
    It would've been 100x less of a mental punishment on me, if my coach would've shown me a solid Sicilian defense as my 1st opening as black, rather than the French, is my point. Because I would've learned the fundamentals of white's attack, through defending it with the Sicilian, which actually makes the French defense opening make sense, in a different manner, once I was comfortable with the game through the sicilian. I highly recommend not putting that stress on people you are coaching, in the future.
    Like you clearly did to this guy.
    Do a follow-up with him Gotham, lol see if he has been enjoying the French Opening... Bet you he isn't even playing chess anymore because of it. It really is a rage inducing opening man... Can't believe you're giving it to noobs, lol that's just cruel
