I remember watching this on a video tape I borrowed from my local library as a kid. Every now and again, when I empty a bottle I remember the theme song to the show, about 25 years on!
I'm glad to hear that you remember a science segment from long ago. We have many more memories for you on CZcams. czcams.com/users/curiosityshow. Deane.
@@CuriosityShow Hi Deane and Rob. Wow, what a memory, do you know when this segment was filmed? I'm guessing between '82-'85. It has inspired me to find my calling and become involved with one of the worlds most powerful natural energies. The Vortex.
One way I've found to drain a container quickly, is by inserting a plastic straw into it, so that the end comes up above the fluid when it's turned over. It's similar to how you punch two holes into a beverage can, one for air to enter as the fluid leaves.
The only reason that I don't like that method is because you have to go find a straw and doing it the method that they show in the video can be done without a straw so it's more convenient.
I wonder if you'll have to swish the bottle around in the opposite way ,in the Northern Hemisphere ? probably a dumb question but I wonder if it makes any difference . the things you think of at 3:30 in the morning when you're watching the Curiosity show
It wouldn't make a noticable difference, no. The rotation of water depending on the hemisphere is a) very, very subtle b) is really slow and c) only really effects bodies of water with relatively large surface area. Because of that, you'd probably not be able to meaningfully measure that rotation in a typical bottle at all.

I drained my friend and he was not happy
Then you were doing it wrong.
I tried draining my friend like this but he hated it...
I was thinking you would have squeezed the bottle, but this is amazing!
When your favourite teachers are also friends
i was amazed by the Elephant
Which elephant

I still count, elephant one, elephant two - people look at me funny
I use "elephant" to count seconds and I think about this video.
very interesting

Every time I pour out a bottle I try to get it as fast and steady stream without any air glugs. I wonder how many elephants it would take that way
did you find out yet !
Love how Rob said "shit". HahahahahahahahA
I think he said "six" at the same time Deane was speaking but yeah "shit" is funnier so let's go with that. xD
