- Thanks for stopping by! I'm a sophomore at the U of I, and this is my dorm room at Nugent Hall. Each dorm room is slightly different depending on the building but this is how I decorated and what you can expect if you want to live in Nugent!

i’m literally in 8th grade binge watching college videos. i’m hoping that corona is over by the time i go to college because i want to experience the full thing. i go to illinois and this is one of my dream schools

bro i also watched college videos since i was in 8th grdae, dreaming of the day i could go to college. now going into my senior year, i am so terrified, though i am still a little excited. everything goes by so fast. best tip is to not set high expectations for what college you will go to and what it will be like. i used to be so excited to apply to ivy leagues and going to top colleges. but i was later a little disappointed to find out my grades weren’t good enough and i was limited in options. but you don’t have to set low expectations either. if you wanna set a goal for an ivy league, go right ahead. just don’t set that that goal as a 100% hard-on thing you want im case it doesn’t work out :)

Thanks so much for this! I visited campus today just to walk around as a possible incoming freshman but I didn’t get to look at the dorms so this helped a lot! How does the roommate picking process work, is it completely random or do they choose someone with similar interests as you or can you make requests?
You're welcome! Welcome to U of I :) For roommates, you can fill out a survey about you in the housing portal when the time comes and you can do it randomly, or you can try to find a specific roommate and you both can enter each other's names into the form as specified roommates! If you go the survey route they will still pick someone similar to you! I suggest joining a UIUC Class of 2025 Facebook group where you might be able to find a roommate :)

First of all, great vid! And Wow haha I expected college dorms to be bigger than my high school’s dorm but I was wrong lol. Also, I just have one question to ask. I applied to the Business LLC as an incoming freshman but heard that first years barely get to live in the Nugent hall. Is that true?
Thank you! Haha college dorms are quite small. If you don't get in to the Business LLC, then your chances of living at Nugent are probably pretty low!

where is the bath and shower?
Im an upcoming freshman and I was wondering how you set preferences for Nugent Hall when applying for dorms. It only gives me the option for Wassaja, Weston, and Ikenberry North. I really want to do Nugent with a roomate, but I'm not sure how I would apply for it if it doesnt show up as a preference option.
Hi! So I believe that next year Nugent will be the Business LLC and also mostly upperclassman. Your best bet for Nugent is to join the LLC, but other than that putting Ikenberry North is the only option! The rooms fill up pretty fast so freshman usually don't live here. I was part of the honors LLC so that's how I got a spot :)
I just wanted to know about the bathroom situation at Nugent hall. Like is there communal bathrooms or private bathrooms. If there are private bathrooms is it one dorm room per bathroom or multiple dorm rooms per bathroom?
So there are communal bathrooms in every wing of the dorm, but there are also a few gender neutral single use bathrooms for those who want more privacy! There are more rooms than there are bathrooms so you'll be sharing.
Are mini refrigerators and micro ovens set by default in the dormitory?
They do not come with the rooms by default but you can either bring your own of any type or they have a service you can rent from!
Im moving in this Fall, quick question..is there a kitchen to cook your own food?
Yes!! You can check out the kitchen by going to the front desk of whatever dorm and they give you a key.

When would you say is a good time to start applying for housing?
Definitely as soon as the housing portal opens up! The sooner you put down your preferences the more likely you are to get your first choice eventually
