    The year 2024 marks six decades since France established diplomatic ties with the People’s Republic of China. It’s a complicated and multifaceted relationship shaped by the countries' ambitions to be world leaders, and France’s desire to exert an independent foreign policy despite being an ally of the US. Russia's war in Ukraine and economic ties will be discussed when Chinese President Xi Jinping visits France on May 6-7, 2024.

    France is the only country in Europe that has the power to pursue independent foreign policy. It was Charles de Gaulle's action of shipping gold bullion stored in the US back to France that forced the US to take the dollar off the gold standard in 1974 and that mark the beginning of the US printing the dollar out of thin air.

    Emanuel Macro seems confused. It looks as if he is struggling to respond to global events in a statesman-like manner. His actions seem more like a series of reactions to global events as opposed to being driven by a core strategy.

    • @Decamix300
      @Decamix300 Před 19 dny

      Really ? I think his core strategy is quite obvious. He wants an economically strong and autonomous Europe which would prevent things like trade wars to happen so often. For that he needs to have reliable trade partners as France cannot produce everything it needs (even if with everything said they are still doing extremely well).
      Originally the plan was to rely on Russia to counterbalance the slight tendency of the US to be overbearing with some trade policies but well Putin kinda said no to European harmony so he turns to China. That's the only change in plans.
      If you look at his actions and speeches it's always about "strategic autonomy" which is a very important notion in French politics since the 1950's but the overreliance of other European countries on the US trades, armies and markets made it difficult for France to execute it. It's still not certain today but it is closer in reach.

    For centuries China had claimed the Indo-China territory to its south as a tributary state, but France began a series of invasions, turning French Indochina into its own colony. France and China clashed over control of Annam. The result was a conflict in 1884-85.

      When Republic of China (currently in Taiwan) was the one of the 5 member of UN security concil during 1945~1972, no country in the world question their sovereignty over South China Sea.
      Philipine was not even a country at that time, and its colonier master, USA agrees to the ownership belongs to China (in fact, the whole world agrees to it in UN).
      At the time of Philipines independent, South China Sea was never included in Philipines constitution.
      Yet, South China Sea is still in R.O.C. Taiwanese constitution at this very moment, and remains unchange since 1912, inhereted from last Central government of China, Qin Dynasty.
