    The "useful" information Laurie had was what she was just now realizing. Up to that point, .00000she believed he was just a man. But the fact that he was still alive and still killing after everything that happened in the last film, she knows there is no way a man could have survived that fire (even inside that gun cabinet, the air would have been toxic). She is finally understanding what Dr. Loomis was trying to tell everyone in the first movie.....that Michael is no longer human. The 2019 Halloween was about personal trauma (Laurie's mainly), this film was about group trauma. There was no main character in this installment, because the entire town was the main character. Everyone he had come into contact with that lived is still haunted by him and feels like he is their personal Demon. Laurie thought it was all about her. The Sherriff thought it was all about his failure to kill him all those years ago. Tommy thought it was his personal mission to kill him. He doesn't just kill, he HAUNTS and corrupts. He turned a quiet town into an angry, mindless mob. That's why this film is so much more brutal, they really wanted to drive home the idea that this was not just some escape psychopath, but something beyond human. A seemingly unstoppable force of evil. The Boogeyman.

    • @LA_HA
      @LA_HA Před 2 lety +21

      I agree with much of what you wrote except for one thing: Myers didn't turn that town into anything. He is what he is. And the people in Haddonfield are what they are. They just don't want to admit it. They're blaming him for their own behavior. The corruption is their own, not Myers'.
      Each person was trying to face him without the benefit of understanding him, themselves, or the past. They coasted on something that happened 40 years ago and didn't even know what he looked like. Tommy kept telling himself what he would do when he came face to face with Myers. But, in the end, his lack of preparation and ability to come to terms with his fear put him right in the path of the thing he feared for four decades - The Boogeyman without a soul. He tried to look into Myers' eyes and saw... Nothing. And then he met his fate, just like Lonnie, Nurse Chambers, and Karen

      @Satyrcain66 Před 2 lety +18

      @@LA_HA Actually, I don't think we have any disagreement at all, just a simple issue of semantics. I didn't mean to say that the town's actions were solely the fault of Michael, just that he was the common spark (and accelerant) that sent the town ablaze, so to speak. I am happy that someone else has noticed that there is much more depth in these films than most critics or even the fans have noticed. I have seen nothing but complaints about how over the top Tommy and some of the other characters were portrayed......because, you know, violent mobs are usually so calm and reasonable......without realizing that their wild "evil dies tonight!" behavior was the whole point of the film's premise about Michael and, of course, Evil itself. Most sequels exist for only one reason; to make more money. These sequels obviously want that as well, but it is both tiresome and irksome to listen to people bitching about these films being drenched in nostalgia as a money grab (which, I am certain, the Producers saw as a great side effect), while completely missing how they were using the original film and it's characters to actually make a fresh point. Anyway, thanks for your response, it was a breath of fresh air.

    • @LA_HA
      @LA_HA Před 2 lety +9

      @@Satyrcain66 What you wrote is absolutely true. There's nothing wrong with making money as long as it's done honestly. The new storyline is really interesting and the deeper meanings they seem to be exploring are really fun for Halloween fans to discuss.
      For example, reviving the question of Myers' being supernatural or human. DGG appears to be making the answer a sliding scale with the idea that he's human, but the longer he's out doing his thing, the more he's truly Becoming The Boogeyman. And that he's being powered by more than blood. He's possibly being powered by the elements of evil - fear, suspicion, anger, hatred, etc.
      Or the change in the story about his youth and how the young deputy's recollections of Myers being strange for longer than the previous idea that he suddenly snapped.
      Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and Ideas. I appreciate other fans who do more than complain about what they don't like, but instead, are willing to give the films a more thoughtful look. Especially when it calls back some interesting elements from previous Halloween movies they skipped over.
      You gotta admit, there are some really cool ideas being discussed. Like the town tower theory. haha

    Lonnie is the kid in the original 1978 film that bullied Tommy Doyle at the school yard and knocked him down and his pumpkin smashed. And then he ran into then Michael and Michael stops him with his hands on the shoulders. Lonnie then runs off after looking him straight in the eyes. Go back and watch Halloween 1978 you will see the scene. They were just exploring and described characters from the original. Also The actress that plays Lindsey Wallace in this film also played Lindsey in the 1978 film the child. Sheriff bracket is played by the original guy too from the original movie he was the security guard in this one at the hospital. A nurse Marion Chambers was played by Nancy Stevens who was in the original as well obviously older than this one. So Lindsey Wallace sheriff bracket and nurse Marion ChambersWe’re all reprised by the actors and actresses who played them in the original..

      @@tashatipton2141 In the novelization, after Loomis chased them off the Myers property, they split up. Lonnie ended up trick or treating with the little relative of those Mulvaney teens, bullied him, and stole his jawbreaker. That's why they wanted to see what he had in his hand. Lonnie tried to blame his other friend, Richie, but the teens had already been told by their little relative who stole his candy. That's why they were bullying him.
      FYI. Myers and Lonnie don't have a special relationship. The only person he truly continues to let live without cause is Allison. He never tries to kill her until she forces his hand. Otherwise, Myers is capricious in who he chooses to hunt and kill.
      Like the wife dressed as a sexy nurse. If you go back to H18, after he kills the housewives, you'll see the scene when Myers looks at her and pretty much marks her before she gets into the car with her husband and drives off. He had Plans for her. I think he was bummed when she forced him to make her shoot herself. He made do, but I really think he wanted her for special "arts and crafts"

    I can see the whole "useful information" thing about Laurie, but at the same time, I think that the sad reality of it all is that even with the useful information, a lot of people, in general, wouldn't accept it because they can't think beyond first-instincts-surface-level logic. Thus, the useful information, even if presented to them in a timely manner, would do them no good. They wouldn't listen to or believe it. Also, I think that Laurie has tried to tell people this over the years, but because she is perceived as being the crazy, paranoid lady from 1978, many citizens of Haddonfield don't believe her and think that Michael is just a regular human being who is limited by human weaknesses. She sees him as who he really is. The citizens see him for what he portrays on the surface level.

In the elder scene back in the 70’s “my mom used to make me go to play with him.” So I think he may have a soft spot for rejects, the bullied maybe? And when the presence of him causes so much fear. So when he was yelling about all things he promised. He saw… something. And many times I’m not sure if it’s sympathy. Like. Maybe it’s really more of something he sees. Like maybe he sees how they would become later in life… so he could target them when they became adults.

    While I enjoyed Halloween Kills, I definitely can see see Elizabeth’s point. However, this is the second movie in a trilogy, so I think that it makes sense for this to not have much plot as it’s a literal continuation of the last movie. Watching Halloween (2018) and Halloween Kills back to back will probably make it feel more complete. Also while I heard that Halloween Ends is set like 4 years in the future, I’m hopeful that it’ll also strengthen this movie and when the trilogy is watched back to back to back, they’ll all feel very complete

    Some random thoughts: It's an interesting question: does the towns fear of him make him immortal. If they no longer feared him like pennywise maybe he would lose that power. Also In the 1978 book it says Michael killed his sister because voices told him to do so. Was he possessed by an evil spirit then? It would be interesting to further explore his origin. And that mob was terrifying but a realistic way of showing the psychological effect he had on the town. If he feeds on fear then that mob gave him tremendous power because they where very much like scared animals

    Something people didn't notice on first watch that Little John was still alive. so he might return in the next one, plus the next one jumps several years. also you watched the slightly extended cut. the theatrical version ends with Laurie just hearing Michael's breathing. the scene of Laurie telling Michael she was coming for him was going to be used, and probably still will, for the intro of the next movie.

  • @toiletholder
    @toiletholder Před 2 lety +3

    David Gordon Green’s plan for this movie was to make a “crazy slasher movie.” I think it succeeds very well on that level. It has the logic of an 80s slasher movie with the style and violence pumped up. To me Halloween 2018 was a good character study, at least for a slasher movie. The acting was good. The plot flowed purposefully. Kills feels more nightmarish, like a giallo film. VERY stylish. Very gory. Very campy. Very illogical. Almost every scene has weird dialogue and illogical stuff going on. 2018’s movie’s focus was on Laurie’s trauma and her redemption. Kills is about Michael’s Michaeliness. Every shot of Michael is creepily lit and filmed. The focus is on his brutal kills and how his monstrousness turned good people into monsters. Not very realistically executed but this movie isn’t about realism. It’s about showing this classic movie monster in the scariest and most aggressive way possible. Halloween Ends is supposed to be in yet another style, different from 2018 and Kills. From what I remember reading, it’ll be less violent and more “intimate.” I’m very intrigued. I wonder if they’ll make it more realistic after so many complaints about the lack of logic in Kills.

    • @alucard624
      @alucard624 Před 2 lety

      Kills came off like a ripoff of one of the many Friday the 13th sequels in regards to just upping the kill count and emphasis on gore just for the sake of it and saying to hell with the plot. I really hope Ends is more back to basics and more in line with what Halloween is supposed to be about ie suspense and tension.

    5:43 This is a new timeline that ignores the 1981 Halloween II film that had Michael revealed as Laurie's brother. John Carpenter stated he only came up with that idea over a late night of script writing and alcohol. He was never a fan of the whole sibling angle and got rid of it starting with the 2018 Halloween film.

  • @glennwelsh9784
    @glennwelsh9784 Před 2 lety +3

    It's funny that the cop from the previous movie survived. Yeah, he was stabbed in the neck, but I also distinctly remember that Michael's crazy doctor ran him over with the cop car afterwards. I guess he survived that too, and with minimal physical injury somehow?
    The movie felt very much like filler while they wait for the (supposed) final film later this year. Michael's brutal kills are probably the highlight of the film, but I hate that Laurie spends the whole movie in the hospital, and the message about mass panic and mob mentality felt pretty heavy handed and a clear effort to stretch the runtime by giving the main characters somewhere else to be and keep them away from Michael. A bunch of characters act dumb because people need to die, as smart people wouldn't get themselves killed. And of course, there isn't much of a resolution because Michael is still out there roaming free despite getting that beatdown from the mob. Yeah, most of these movies end with Michael still getting away, but we KNOW it's because any attempt to kill him for good is being saved for the next movie.
