  • You guys might have seen one of my recent videos where I excitedly unboxed my first set of Artist oil pastels, but now let's figure out how in the world to blend them!
    In today's video, we are going to try some different blending tools/techniques (for the first time, so please do not use this video as advice...) and see what results I get! Do I still love oil pastels? Let's find out...

    It was interesting seeing you use the different blending techniques, and yes pastels are always quite difficult, haha! You got makeup sponges, yay! ❤ I like the final picture how the background is really blended, combined with the more textured look of the foreground.

      I did get the makeup sponges and they were really useful, thanks for recommending!❤ I think that I could use a lot more practice with this medium but I find it to be a fun challenge :)

    They have a blending medium (a stick). Haven't tried it yet but it seems like the perfect solvent-free option.

    I would love to see a bird or animal. Thanks for sharing the process. It was really neat. I like the differences in the piece and the sky turned out nice. Thank you!

    I think it turned out great! Honestly I just use my fingers to blend Sennelier oil pastels, after trying a few different options or just works the best!

    Love your sunset and waves. I'd love to see you use the oil pastels to paint a furry animal. ♥️

    I just use turps with oil pastel on canvas paper. the canvas can take both the pastels and the turps without falling apart and seems to work well for me

      Thanks for the recommendation. I have yet to try some different papers with these and see what happens!

    Very interesting! I just bought some of these in the January sale at cass art, they are like oil paints in my central heated house! I’m worried about using them because of how expensive they were even on sale! I did a sea scape of my bro kayaking, I love how they look impressionistic too, I am going to try blending with solvent but I only have decorators white spirit so waiting till I can get some odourless or the orange zest it stuff. Your painting/ drawing looks similar to mine, maybe this is how they are supposed to look! I like this look!
    My box is messy now after traveling from north Scotland to the south west of England on New Year’s Eve before I had even used them!
    Apparently there’s a clear Senelier pastel that’s just for blending and mixing colours but I don’t know what set it comes in. I just ordered the portrait set but I am no good at people, just liked the pinks and greige colours and some biege ones too .
    Love this video thank you for inspiring me ! It was cool seeing that this is how these oil pastels look, I thought I was doing something wrong, and to hear you saying maybe you needed more practice blending etc was good because I did my drawing a couple weeks ago just after ordering the portrait set and thought I’d made a mistake buying a second set but now I think a bit more practice, and I’m Keeping going with the impressionist expressionist styles too! Look forward to seeing your next video.

      I am so glad this video inspired you:) it definitely wasn't a mistake ordering a second set, I think I will do the same eventually! The impressionistic look has been my best bet! I heard Zest It is great for blending. Best of luck to you and thanks for watching the video!

    I have sooo much trouble with these… what i use for details are “color pushers,” or the rubber-tipped tools that sculpters use for clay.

    Hi Alexis, I think you did a great job, because this media are very hard to achieve...but, it's ok, I think with more practice of blending each other, maybe came out a little much better. I am not an expert in oil pastels, but I know that this media, sometimes are a little difficult to work with. I would like to see another video, from this oil pastels, and if you manage to blending with another technique or another paper, I would also like to see it! Thank you Alexis for sharing your experience with this media.🤗 Oh! I heard from Lindsay, from the Frugalcrafter, she use sanded paper, and the Canson sanded Grid Paper mix media...this paper it's very good for dry media. I try it with my colored pencils, but with Derwent Lightfast, and Prisma...the colored pencils must be creamy and softer than the polys if you use that paper. Try it, or another paper....

    • @AlexisCassandraArt
      @AlexisCassandraArt  Před rokem +1

      I’ll have to look into those papers and watch Lindsay’s videos! I agree that this is a hard medium to work with. Hopefully I can figure out my blending techniques over time. Thanks for watching!❤

      @@AlexisCassandraArt yeah, but don't worry, it's a hard media, that's why I haven't tried it. See you in the next video! Sending 🤗

    How long do you have to blend them? Do they dry down and become immovable? It turned out great!

    • @AlexisCassandraArt
      @AlexisCassandraArt  Před rokem +1

      They can still be smeared they never truly dry, you can use fixative though. Blending isn't bad because they're very smooth and glide on the paper!

    Nice work!
    I think the blending issues are related to that specific paper, i've done a piece recently on the same kind, strathmore mixed media paper but the black one, and i suffered blending the oil pastels, i have done works on strathmore bristol and other papers and it isn't as difficilt as the mixed media one!
    I still have to try the strathmore pastel paper.

    • @AlexisCassandraArt
      @AlexisCassandraArt  Před rokem +1

      That would actually make sense! I’d like to try different papers for sure.
