BOEING 747-400 COCKPIT VIEW LANDING SANTIAGO
In this video we take you along on this beautiful approach and show you a fully manual raw data ILS and landing at Santiago de Chile International Airport. (SCL / SCEL)
We approach from the east making a stunning crossing over the Andes Mountain range on the border of Argentina and Chile.
Landing is performed on Runway 17L.
Approach is flown fully manual F/D OFF and A/T OFF.
Captured from the flightdeck of a KLM Martinair Cargo Boeing 747-400ERF.
Timelapse Version: • BOEING 747-400 CAPTAIN...
Recorded with: Sony Handycam, GoPro HERO3 Black.

Excelente trabajo!!, bienvenido a Chile, mi país...
Impressive landing, it's the first time I've seen an actual landing from the cockpit. Thank you, The Pilot Channel, for sharing. God bless...
I love you davenpan
Jesus... I have to watch this video always, its so nice... Please dont stop filming!
Ese Piloto vuela muy bien..
Very nicely flown.
Great to see the FD's off, that's the best way to keep these hand-flying skills sharp.
Live from the Flight Deck is this the only reason?
At 2.18 ILS APP is activated with LOC and even G/S locked in. Then we see Flight Director switch in off position at 4.14. This would be for the camera in cockpit I'm sure, so pilots appear active and busy. Can see some pilots not using ILS to sharpen skills but to disable F/D on landing is surely is against most commercial paasenger airline protocols.
This is obviously a cargo op and not scheduled passenger ops. Raw data approaches are encouraged in the United States to stay sharp and are usually conducted in severe clear like in this video. RNAV STAR's and RNP approaches (RF), CAT II/III and the like on the other hand are normally flown using all automation and at a minimum the Flight director when circumstances dictate, the op's specs for the particular airline lays out all the rules pilots must follow and prints this in the company FOM. It is not unusual to see US pilots hand fly from 10.000 feet to the landing roll-out in good weather cargo or passengers.
One thing is for damn sure, raw data in any weather is not easy in the whale when landing at 1/2 a million pounds.
When you say raw data you mean with glide slope and localizer purple lines which deflect from center when off centered, instead of arrows showing pitch attitude? Sorry I'm only flight simulator pilot, tehe.
Those purple lines are the flight director bars that command pitch and bank to stay on loc and glide path. Raw data is displayed with a diamond (just to the left of altimeter) 3rd dot down, on the ADI (attitude direction indicator) and a CDI (Course deviation indicator) on the HSI (horizontal situation indicator) and ADI (middle dot) To fly raw data you would set a pitch, at 747 approach speeds approx 750 feet per minute descent and bracket the localizer with very small -5 degrees heading changes to stay less than 1/2 dot displacement on either one, The flight director computes the heading and pitch to keep everything centered, without it, the pilot computes them himself, just like in the final 3 miles of this approach.
A flight director comes usually in 3 versions, pink command bars in Boeing and airbus, V bars in turboprops, CRJ's, and the pink devil as it is called in the ERJ Jets.
Awesome video! Whenever you takes us inside the cockpit, inside the emotions into the sensations of the moment.
Then in this approach fully manual, you breathe a true apprehension and professionalism That only a pilot can feel, live ...
For a simmer, to a passionate, to a person.. all this is really extraordinary!
Thank you and happy landing to you!
yeah finally a video from my country, specially from my city Santiago.
Thanks for this!
you sure know your way around the world great flying
Wow! El mejor video de un aterrizaje en Santiago que He Visto este año.... Excelente producción
I love landing and it is absolutely thrilling ☺️
I love the view great pilots
Awesome video. Very nicely flown.
Beautiful! This bird never ceases to amaze me!
Nice landing 👍🏼🛫🇺🇸
Happy landings, Captain!
love this crew!!!!!!
747 is back!
Fantastic wawwww
increíble... fantástico video
2~Kewl . . . YOU ~ ROCK ! !
smooth landing...
this captain makes it look easy in all the videos where I saw.
Incredible feeling...FANTASTIC!!!
YOU ~ ROCK ! !
Beautiful landing Captain!
Haven't flown in 20 years so really enjoy watching these videos.
Glorious views! Excellent video!
Simplemente fenomenal!
Nice landing///
GREAT VIDEO.
Muito bom
parabéns pelo Vídeo
You guys are good!
Amazing
Very smooth touch down.
Muito Legal!
tremendo video !!!!
Great job, guys. You pilots a re awesome.
One of my favorite things about this channel and the captain is the amount of time that he hand-fly's the plane. You don't see many commercial pilots hand-flying large aircraft past 500-1000 AGL before engaging the autopilot; similar circumstances on landing where they MIGHT hand-fly the last 500 feet or so.

Hola so y la
Excelente
The best thing about this video is that we don't have to look at the wing/eng. for 30min. These people that make these videos got to learn to stop pointing their cameras at the wing. Point it at the scenery instead.
After watching all these videos landing in Santiago i decided to fly from seattle to Santiago on flight sim. hopefully its cloudy when i get there!
muito bom great
great video thanks
5:51 WOW!
RAW DATA = Fun
*S A N T I A G O*
Flying above the mountains may be a big trouble because you ¨ll find severe turbulence !
I have seen this pilot in many videos flying the plane
It's that KLM Dutch guy again. At least he's had a hair cut this time. Does he ever give a sector away?
Do the pilots get nervous during descents? I watch a lot of these videos and it seems as though their bodies get a little more tense during descents vs. takeoffs. This could also be the time they are more alert. Either way, you guys are awesome! Cockpit videos are the BEST!!!
Eustress its called
Doug D Kudos to the airline pilots I must admire them ..
Any particular airports that you remember that the runways are not in good shape?
Captain, could you give us a tour of the area aft of the flight deck?
Nice landing!!!! What is the reason that the terrain call out '1000' while the altitude indicator shows around 2500 feet?
henry424237468 yeah noticed that too. I wonder ?
the altitude indicator shows how high you are based on sea level and the call out was based on distance from the ground.
Yep , 1,870ft it’s the elevation in Santiago Chile . So that’s why
Hi Good Day! Your video is so awesome.. I was wondering if I can use your clip from 3:43 to 3:47 just 5 seconds for my mini project (a music video) for a non profit organization.. I can send you more information about it ... thanks..
Skipper's had a haircut since I last saw him.
What kind of Bose headset is the FO wearing?
Great video! Well done! :)
RAW data? Shall I show you my C182 panel? ;-)
Why was the captain's flight director turned off???
Noah M it's a raw data ILS approach meaning the pilot is flying with reference to the HSI, and with no assistance from the flight director, autopilot or auto-throttle 👍
It tends to be used as an aid to a visual landing.
Why did not the pilots say ''landing" after minimum call?
it's real
Did he use reverse Thrust as soon as the plane touched down?
No. After the nose gear was down. It takes a while for the actual reversers to be available.
vcp to scl ?
WOW!! sweet sexy soft landing...you rock mr.pilot
When the speed is being set on the autopilot system, why does the pilot still control the throttle with his hand? Thanks
That was just for reference autothrottle was not on.
In case he needs to abort the landing and execute a go around.
What God allows us to do. My mom just got back from Europe. Incredible how these machines fly for a long time. I was so scared that her plane would crash. Thank you God.
99.99%
What is the plane's registration?
Emile Myburgh the speed was 157 how he did that i know from a sim program that the plane will steal under 150-140 ( i am just 16 yrs old pilot is my dream job )
PH-CKB
Dutch - KLM perhaps?
ATC callsign is Martinair...so...Martinair Cargo likely :)
KLM Cargo 747-406ERF operated by Martinair Cargo crew.
Why speed up the most scenic parts?
O bixo e grande.kkkkk
It is my dream since i was kid but i don't have enough ability for support to study it and one more thing is my country don't have the captain school so i have to spend high ability for support study it at aboad
Naran Leng I really want to be a pilot too!! Been a dream since I was in 4th grade, a wicked long time ago!!
Hay alguien de Chile aqui?
smog

Calls out 1,000' and gauges say 2,400' LOL.
Phil Hurrle
1000 is AGL based on the radar altimeter. 2500 is MSL based on the barometric altimeter. The difference is the field elevation which, in this case, would be 1500.
Smart guy Phil looking real dumb.
Wait til you see a landing in Denver, Colorado...or better yet, Quito, Ecuador. You touchdown and the altimeter is still close to 8000 feet!
Average. Bleh
You're description is misleading. This was a visual approach, the raw data ILS gave only secondary reference. Now if it had been IMC, then it would have been a true raw data ILS approach
camlinhall In ‘TRUE’ IMC, most careers don’t allow their pilots to land raw data. Hand flying is only allowed when runway is visual, so usually Raw Data is, per airline rules, not possible, even, cause A/P will have to be engaged until visual approach conditions.
Yo piqué como un tonto, creía que hablaban de Santiago de Compostela.
