Well your assistant is adorable definitely steals the show. Blowing kisses at the end too cute.
Thank you! She enjoyed it!
Your daughter is absolutely precious! I will definitely be adding this pattern to my "to buy" list!
I love this! The difference between bust and waist measurement always gives me trouble, so happy to see a pattern that actually caters to my body type
I love her Fantail Pattern. I used it for my walking skirt and I adore how it came out. :D
She is a little cuttie!
Excited for these! Currently dyeing some linen to get started on sewing this weekend :)
I found out about you from American Duchess. I was watching a Jan 2018 video on a Q & A about Stays. And they were saying nice things about you. And I was happy to see you know have a YT channel. Thanks for this video.
I can recognize these on people on instagram all the time! Legendary in the historical costuming community 💘
That sweet little one is tooooooo cute. Congrats on the pattern
I have everything downloaded and printed and in a binder...it looks fabulous! However, I’m terrified to start. Stays scare me...I’ve never made anything like this ever. What is the biggest mistake newbies make and how can I avoid it?? (Love your assistant by the way...she’s adorable!)
I think, by and large, most people assume the pattern will work for them without testing it first- and then are disappointed that it doesn't fit perfectly after they've put all their time into it. I 100% recommend doing a mockup- you can use masking tape to tape the bones in (I like to use zip ties for mockups) and then you can easily move the bones around if the placement doesn't suit you. If you're on facebook, there's a group called "18th Century Stays" that would be helpful for you to join! Lots of experienced, and new, makers on there that are happy to help and ask questions :) Best of luck! and thank you- Anne loves to help out :)
It’s on my never ending to-do list !
Your daughter is adorable - and so are you! I'm just about to start on these. I may try to convert them to front lacing. If the patterning gods are with me. Thanks for all the info on it!
It will get easier. You did a very good job on the video and love the helper.
Who gave you a thumbs down? Let me at them. I’m going to kick their butt... So do you decide curvy based on your actual measurements or how much you can squish?
Ha- I figure the "thumbs down" just comes with the territory of putting information on the internet.
You can decide on which silhouette using either of those criteria. If you have a larger bust, the curvy will probably act better in giving you bust support, but if you have lots of squish and want a more fashionable silhouette you can definitely make that decision. The fit troubleshooting video (hopefully to debut within the next 2 weeks) will address a lot of those questions :)
Lady of the Wilderness Awesome, I would *love* a more fashionable silhouette 🤗
I would love to make this. It's unfortunate that the seller only accepts paypal. :(
I have absolutely no experience whatsoever with fitting garments, and the only garment I’ve ever sewn was a super-simple A-line skirt when I was 15 (though I do intend to make a shift or two in the not too distant future). How difficult do you think this pattern would be for a complete novice like me to make?
Congrats on your new sewing journey! This pattern is definitely an advanced pattern, but if you have patience, a good eye and a group to bounce your questions off of, this is definitely a garment you could make yourself. If you plan on making it soon, there's a facebook group called "18th Century Stays" that can help you through all of those questions.
It's all a learning journey and each project will have its own mistakes/challenges to learn from which is what makes you a better stitcher and clothing maker- so don't fear them! Happy making :)

Sounds like I should stick to easier (but still challenging) projects for the time being, but I won’t say that I’ll never try anything like this, just that I’m not ready _yet._
