At the expense of going on a tangent here, I've never paid the full price of digital content and given the rise in digital/ subscriptions, there's actually a resurgence in demand for physical media that could very well turn the tide against this bs, but there's always the option to hit them here it hurts and not buy what is an optional purchase. There's a reason games like baulders gate 3 sold so massively..it's because the games are actually worth your time. It's hard to get excited about games getting shorter. I beat spiderman 2 in 2 days and the writing was lazy and uninspired made me want my money back honestly. Of all the amazing comics for Spiderman they chose to stick to a basic story plot you could see the ending a mile away I miss the old days..

I am an English teacher and I teach young ones.. age 5-12. Mobile phones and tablets are their preferred way to play .. it is definitely taking over in the younger generations
I will never pay even half price for a 15 hour game. A AAA should be at least 25 for main campaign + at least 15 hours of QUALITY side quests not like Hogwarts endless fetch quests that A) are boring, B) have NO combat & C) give you nothing but endless lame cosmetics.

Mario wonder is the only AAA game I've finished this year, which was 10 hours ish. FF16, FF7 Rebirth, Stellablade, Persona 3, Horizon FW and some others have still not finished due to burnout. Plus, I paid £60 for StarFox 64 in the 90s. Games are really cheap at £70, and there's a reason they are usually full of additional monetization.
It didn't help that Apple made basically next to nothing in games that would matter, but the detail that is in the PS5 if I could get it in my iPhone 15 Pro Max and use a controller. In many cases it wouldn't matter, because there is so much detail and me seeing all that on a tiny little screen would be just absolutely assanizing to say the least! I sure as hell wouldn't pay $60 dollars for that experience either.
The gameplay time of a game should be determined by the story of the game. The devs need to determine how much gameplay time would present the story best. The gameplay should focus on the key aspects of the story and give it to us piece by piece in the right sequence. Decreasing the gameplay time for no good reason is another bad decision in the gaming industry.
i would play AAA games on the IOS if they allowed it on the apple TV. the buy in cost to play AAA on a apple device is way too high it needs to be cheaper sorta like the xbox app on the fire stick.
Story driven games had been 8-15 hours for ages, its not until recently that every game needed to be a 60+ hour open world grind fest. Just because a game takes less time to complete doesnt automatically mean it was cheaper to make, and vice versa

Depends on the genre, 15h with Astro o Ratchet is totally fine, but with open world or RPG i need to be longer, something like GOW 2018 has perfect duration for me in that RPG/OW genre, i love that game duration. Sekiro and Bloodborne also has excellent duration. RE4 Remake also, perfect duration, its feels super buff for and action game, it feel complete and abundant.
I was hoping the future would be VR but, it just hasn't progressed thr way people thought it would. Nobody is getting into my head for full dive but, a mini environment that's affordable and realistic graphics is definitely possible with current tech and we have some of this just not really affordable.

I may be alone in this but I LOVE Big, Open World, 3rd person Games. The longer it goes, the better. With lots of things to do. Yes, like The Witcher 3 and Skyrim, RDR2 and Horizon. One game on sale right now that's worth every damn penny is Bramble The Mountain King. It's only $11.99 and in my opinion it's worth it. It's quite the experience. It took me about 5-6 hours to playthrough the game and about 14 hours to 100% it.

I prefer a shorter mainline campaign experience...30 hours or so. I dont mind spending $70 on such a game that is complete and polished. Make me want to play the game for 60-120 hours with well written and compelling side content.

Thanks for saying it sucks cause it does. No way I’m playing RE4 on my phone. Mirage even worse. However! Streaming is amazing though and has made gaming on a phone completely viable. Streaming doesn’t shred battery. It’s brilliant. I use mirror play for PS5 games (you can full screen and set bit rate to max) and moonlight for PC games (you get 4k streaming at 120 fps if your phone can do it, works flawlessly 99 percent of the time for me). Played countless hours this way. Gaming on a phone is definitely here. Not to mention emulating psp and ds games with no jailbreak now. Also superb experience.

I've got it, played 70 hours of it, and never made it to the first actual boss. I can't do it man. I'm not getting driven to throwing my controller through a wall over arbitrary difficulty. Ghost of Tsushima shits all over elden ring in my opinion. You feel like a badass samurai ninja, it's not brutally difficult to pad the length of the game, and the story is f**king awesome. You don't have to keep notes all the time to keep track of what's going on. I don't understand the love fromsoft gets. The game design just seems lazy as f**k to me.

The reason the price is the way it is. Is labour and cost to produce. Some games are worked on for 2-3 years before they make any money whatsoever. It would be all the same if it was a house. Labour, materials and time. That's what you are paying for.
Microsoft are not releasing Gears of War E-Day on PS5, and why would they? It's never previously featured on PlayStation and PS gamers are not familiar with it. It doesn't make any logical sense unless Microsoft planned on releasing the entire franchise on there, which wouldn't work anyway because PS5 is not backwards compatible with PS3/360 games.
Now I agree to some extent on the game length. Like if it’s 100+hours, that can be a bit much unless the game is amazing. AC odyssey for me was one of those that are worth it. But like Valhalla, I’m 70 hours in and still not done, already burned out and struggling to finish it. The first 50-60 hours were so much fun, but then it just got repetitive and bland. So again, it depends on the game for me, but most games could easily be 30-40 hours long and be plenty. Like the length of a far cry game is around 30-40, and that feels good. I feel like I got my money out of it and had fun the whole time. But if these companies think that we will pay $50-$70 for a game that is 15-20 hours long like mirage, or a trash heap like skull and bones, then I’m not ok with that. Edit: another great example of this going the other way. Ratchet and clank a rift apart was one of my favorite games ever, and I beat it in 2 days. But it’s fun enough that I still go back and just play around in that amazing game world.

Apple's chip in the latest iphones is actually weaker for games than the latest Snapdragon chips that have a far better GPU part which is more important for games. So yeah The latest iphone chips are not special at all other than marketing.
iPhone.... I'm not a iphone hater but mobile devices for gaming are expensive and better have the latest snapdragon chip. The good thing is that u can go anywhere and use ur phone to play, consoles if not portable like PS5 console and I have it, it's a pity I can't travel with it... But before mobile phones had very good games but since internet is fast enough and consoles market spiked game creators only want to make games mostly for consoles, people goes for the most money not for other people convenience and unfortunately it's a pity too.
And I had iphone 3G and 4 but I changed to android after i just couldn't do things with it that I could with an Android phone. Iphone is a good quality phone but unfortunately the specs haven't pretty much improved too much compared to android phone and we need to see that the iPhone price can buy the best Android that exist. I know because my wife always has the newest iphone and the camera is always worse than my phone android and graphics chip not the best too.

I would completely agree with you, but it seems like Nintendo is focused on the Indy/3rd party games and not making or porting many good AAA games. And I don't buy the excuse that it can't support those types of games bc they did Skyrim and Witcher 3. Huge games. They may not run and look perfectly, but I've never complained with either, being able to have them in my hands and play anytime I want is definitely worth losing some frame rates. All these Switch games out there and I just keep going back and re-playing The Witcher, Skyrim and Zelda.

Now if you've got five or six Studios they each studio has the ability and the time to make awesome games with a 5-year repetition or less if 5 years isn't needed. The PlayStation is now more focused on the online multiplayer games as a disservice service garbage and that will RUIN them like it did Xbox.

I feel like games need to be 30 hrs story completion and 50+ hrs for completionist . Games are only going up in price and $70 for a story I can beat in a weekend is not ideal at all imo

Depends on the genre, 15h with Astro o Ratchet is totally fine, but with open world or RPG i need to be longer, something like GOW 2018 has perfect duration for me in that RPG/OW genre, i love that game duration. Sekiro and Bloodborne also has excellent duration. RE4 Remake also, perfect duration, its feels super buff for and action game, it feel complete and abundant.
Try Witcher 3 on ps5 bro. It’s a beautiful game. Every moment is filled with story or interest and it’s just such a masterpiece of an experience
I was hoping the future would be VR but, it just hasn't progressed thr way people thought it would. Nobody is getting into my head for full dive but, a mini environment that's affordable and realistic graphics is definitely possible with current tech and we have some of this just not really affordable.

I don’t care for phone gaming, but it definitely will get to a point eventually where it can be competitive, it’s still fairly new though and they don’t have it down yet. Also, iPhone 14 not lasting all day? Mine does if I’m just using it normally. I mean if you’re playing games on it and watching endless CZcams videos on it then sure. I’m not a fan of these games getting shorter though. A good example of how this can be bad is Assassin’s Creed Mirage. The game was so short I completed it and got 100% of the trophies in four days.
I may be alone in this but I LOVE Big, Open World, 3rd person Games. The longer it goes, the better. With lots of things to do. Yes, like The Witcher 3 and Skyrim, RDR2 and Horizon. I never get bored. Those are the type of games I want. I know they take longer to make but it's so worth it when it takes me longer to get through it. Also, it makes a game feel more like it's worth $70+ When it's not just done and over in a few hours. And for what it's worth, I felt like Horizon Forbidden West was TOO SHORT. Lol
I just hope the Gaming world doesn't forget about people like me when designing future games. I've seen a lot of people complaining about big, Open World games, it's done too much, it's overdone, blah...
The indy / 3rd party games just do not excite me. I have no interest in Mobile games unless we're talking about the Switch. However, if Playstation would do another Handheld console that would be awesome.

One game on sale right now that's worth every damn penny is Bramble The Mountain King. It's only $11.99 and in my opinion it's worth it. It's quite the experience. It took me about 5-6 hours to playthrough the game and about 14 hours to 100% it.
I could not imagine having a brain cell that thinks playing AAA games on a phone is a cool idea.

Yes, shorter first party games when they are still trying to push the 70 dollar price point ARE a bad thing. I'll be blunt: If a game is one that I can beat in one sitting and has no replay value, it should not cost 70 dollars. Maybe 30 at most.

I prefer a shorter mainline campaign experience...30 hours or so. I dont mind spending $70 on such a game that is complete and polished. Make me want to play the game for 60-120 hours with well written and compelling side content.

I use mirror play for PS5 games (you can full screen and set bit rate to max) and moonlight for PC games (you get 4k streaming at 120 fps if your phone can do it, works flawlessly 99 percent of the time for me). Played countless hours this way. Gaming on a phone is definitely here. Not to mention emulating psp and ds games with no jailbreak now. Also superb experience.

I've got it, played 70 hours of it, and never made it to the first actual boss. I can't do it man. I'm not getting driven to throwing my controller through a wall over arbitrary difficulty. Ghost of Tsushima shits all over elden ring in my opinion. You feel like a badass samurai ninja, it's not brutally difficult to pad the length of the game, and the story is f**king awesome. You don't have to keep notes all the time to keep track of what's going on. I don't understand the love fromsoft gets. The game design just seems lazy as f**k to me.

Microsoft are not releasing Gears of War E-Day on PS5, and why would they? It's never previously featured on PlayStation and PS gamers are not familiar with it. It doesn't make any logical sense unless Microsoft planned on releasing the entire franchise on there, which wouldn't work anyway because PS5 is not backwards compatible with PS3/360 games.

Now I agree to some extent on the game length. Like if it’s 100+hours, that can be a bit much unless the game is amazing. AC odyssey for me was one of those that are worth it.
But like Valhalla, I’m 70 hours in and still not done, already burned out and struggling to finish it. The first 50-60 hours were so much fun, but then it just got repetitive and bland.
So again, it depends on the game for me, but most games could easily be 30-40 hours long and be plenty.
Like the length of a far cry game is around 30-40, and that feels good. I feel like I got my money out of it and had fun the whole time.
But if these companies think that we will pay $50-$70 for a game that is 15-20 hours long like mirage, or a trash heap like skull and bones, then I’m not ok with that.
Edit: another great example of this going the other way. Ratchet and clank a rift apart was one of my favorite games ever, and I beat it in 2 days. But it’s fun enough that I still go back and just play around in that amazing game world.

iPhone.... I'm not a iphone hater but mobile devices for gaming are expensive and better have the latest snapdragon chip. The good thing is that u can go anywhere and use ur phone to play, consoles if not portable like PS5 console and I have it, it's a pity I can't travel with it... But before mobile phones had very good games but since internet is fast enough and consoles market spiked game creators only want to make games mostly for consoles, people goes for the most money not for other people convenience and unfortunately it's a pity too.
And I had iphone 3G and 4 but I changed to android after i just couldn't do things with it that I could with an Android phone. Iphone is a good quality phone but unfortunately the specs haven't pretty much improved too much compared to android phone and we need to see that the iPhone price can buy the best Android that exist. I know because my wife always has the newest iphone and the camera is always worse than my phone android and graphics chip not the best too.

I would completely agree with you, but it seems like Nintendo is focused on the Indy/3rd party games and not making or porting many good AAA games. And I don't buy the excuse that it can't support those types of games bc they did Skyrim and Witcher 3. Huge games. They may not run and look perfectly, but I've never complained with either, being able to have them in my hands and play anytime I want is definitely worth losing some frame rates. All these Switch games out there and I just keep going back and re-playing The Witcher, Skyrim and Zelda.
@williamrebeccawinkler6241 I think a good repetition for first party like PlayStation is to have at least one Banger a Year. Now if you've got five or six Studios they each studio has the ability and the time to make awesome games with a 5-year repetition or less if 5 years isn't needed.
I also think they should bring story driven single player DLC BACK. Because that can always enhance and extend the game experience. The PlayStation is now more focused on the online multiplayer games as a disservice service garbage and that will RUIN them like it did Xbox.
