Buying a Switch 18-230 Cruise, thank you for this video, great job!!! Just a here's my boat, here's my walk around, before you purchase video. Not showing off or doing stupid stuff. Your verbiage and humor a couple of times cracked me up. Good job bud
thanks for the informative video. I have been searching for information as to why the outer pontoons are designed and built like they are, before we make a purchase of a SWITCH. Thanks for the explanation that they are designed to take in water for weight distribution. my local salesman at the dealer didn't even know this.
230 21 ft owner myself.... there is a lot better way to install battery tender on a switch...install a plug in port on the console next to the fuel filler...and run the cord under the floor tiles,,, hidden and out of the way
I’m getting mine in a couple of months and I really appreciate this video. You have taken some of the anxiety of preparing well and being a first-time boat owner.
If you have the 5-pin converter, you don’t need to tape/magnet that pin in your trailer. You just need power to that 5th wire so that you don’t activate the solenoid when backing up. If you do tape it and you are driving with it and stop, the mechanical brake on the trailer will not activate. Only your vehicle brakes stop you and the trailer brake will not help you stop. Hope that makes sense.
Thanks for the video. I have a couple Sparks that I bought when they first came out and they use the same hull material. It was new concept at the time (a few Yamaha owners gave me crap) but after having them for 5 +years now I've grown to like it better than the fiberglass hull on my boat. I'm considering the exact same boat you have. Was hoping (as an owner) you would have commented on how it handles chop, top speed, etc.. I'll be using mine on a fairly large lake that can get a bit choppy if the wind kicks up.
Greetings from a Tiny Island in Maine, USA . Man sea doo should be paying you. Not exactly my style but you give a great, honest review. Also I dig visiting Fla….. mostly west coast. ✌️
Great video! I just got this exact boat and absolutely love it. So far my only complaint is that it does not like the wind although it’s been a consistent 15mph here in TN for the last few weeks so my opinion on that will probably change once the weather calms down.
Nice video. I have a the same boat but the cruise. Always interested in seeing how folks have configured things differently. Always good to see everyone complaining about the bumper connections. FWIW the rope you have connected at the back secured w the Velcro tie…..great idea until it isn’t….if that rope falls out and sucked into the intake you’re done. IDF won’t kick it out. I do the same thing but with a 6’ stretch cord that won’t reach the inlet if it falls into the water. Enjoy that FL wx!
Thank you so much for making this video! It was extremely helpful, informative, and useful! I plan to buy one of these soon, and need to know what I don't know.
I love ours 21 ft got it late September. Got about 9 hours on it because we live in NC were it alot colder. Looking forward for warmer weather. Great video
Great video thanks. I solved the problem with the fender clip problem by simply taking a round file to the inside parting line left by the injection molding process. Careful - it doesn’t take much filing and these clips fit looser is some places on the tubular frame.
Favorite vid on the Switch. Good Job explaining it without doing a sales pitch. Thinking strongly about a switch. Just moved to Crystal River & no props for the Manatees is appealing. Concerned about durability of the plastic everything, and longevity of the motor. Really like the maneuverability.
Great video. Lots of insight. I would like to see a video, after you get more time in the switch, specifically on the gripes or things you feel could have been done better. Also any wear and tear that may occur as you get more hours. Thanks again for the video.
You got it! its been a littler colder than we like here in FL with the kids and all so we havent really used it much but thats my plan over the next few weeks
Just got mine (21 foot Cruise with the 230 supercharged motor) and love it. Just an FYI on the 5 pin wiring, the 5th pin is for the breaks so you don't have to put the pin in when backing up. At least that is what the dealer told me, I went to Amazon and for a little over $10 I got an adaptor that goes form 7 pin to both 4 and 5 pin. Have not put the pin in once when backing up and have had no issues so it looks like the dealer was telling the truth. lol
This is an amazing video man, you’re a true well spoken trainer. You killed me when you said the last thing you wanna do is get stuck stranded on a boat with your family, or alone or ever LMAO.
The five pin trailer connection is for electrically activating a solenoid so the brakes do not lock up in Reverse, it's an easy way to do it then using that mechanical brake block you showed us
Dude thanks for the heads up about getting on it. I’ll probably attack some kind of bottle Jack to the rear of the trailer so it won’t lean backwards lol
Just bought a 24 foot by 8.5 foot Tahoe tri-toon with a 200 horse Suzuki, and performance lifting fins, for 55K including the trailer, tax, and everything. I don't really see why people would by this for nearly 50K! That is crazy.
Q: I noticed that you are a bigger guy. I’m interested in this as my son pushes 350. Is there a weight limit listed for the deck, not the overall carrying capacity, but a psi or psf limit? The two storage access points (storage and engine compartments) have a plastic bridge at the outer edges. It doesn’t look like there’s anything except the cover that spans the center of the panel.
Since you have experience with both the Yamaha jet boat and Sea Doo switch, I'm curious what your thoughts were comparing the two, pros and cons. I'm considering one or the other as well!
Fantastic video dude. Curious as to how the motor and seats are holding up, and what type of water you are using it in. My last seadoo boat ran with little issues on the banana river which is brackish water. When i moved to north tampa i feel like tge salt content in the watee hammered the seat materials and motor.
Great video. Looking into possibly purchasing one. Answered a bunch of questions I had. BUT, how much of a pain is the wash down? Being in the saltwater and kids getting in and out, I image the saltwater gets everywhere in all the nooks and crannies all over the deck. Doesn’t seem very wash down friendly as there would be standing water in the spaces on the deck. Am I missing something or is there an easy answer? I’m a clean freak when it comes to washing saltwater off my boats. Thanks in advance for any insight!
It is actually friendlier than conventional pontoons. Just wash away! you can pop up the soft tiles and almost every surface can be washed. The pontoons have plenty of space to allow dirt to wash out. I struggles with my older aluminum pontoon because everything was bolted or built in. That where debris and eventually mold took hold. Treat it like a watercraft "jet -ski" instead of a boat. Its made to get wet!
I bought a switch and I am trying to get my boat lift reconfigured to fit. The Hewitt lift dealer is trying to help me get the right bunks and configuration for it but seems to be strugging a bit. Did your neighbor across the street with the lift have any trouble with this? Thanks
Do those square soft floor tiles get hot in the sun? Actually, either the just plastic floor or the soft tile? Do either of them get toasty on bare feet?
Thank you for the information. I have been looking into these and noticed to out fit ine it is very expensive. Then the added "commodity surcharge...1400. So I am just learning about them but it appears to get very expensive fast. Are you able add additional lights and such easily? Can wire be run as needed. Regular pontoon boat stupidly easy. Thanks again. Kind of like an expensive bobber, lol
I am a graphic installer and ypu cam use primer 94 on those vinyl lettering amd it will stick. Use a hair dryer or heat gun in you have one to post heat the vinyl after layer and it will shrink down into the texture of tje polytech and set the adhesive on the graphics and the primer.
When Bimini is down what is the height from concrete to the top of the Bimini in the closed position. Could it be stored in a garage with 8’ high door? How easily could you remove the swim platform. My garage is 21’ deep with garage door closed. My thoughts were to purchase an 16’ + the 2’ swim deck. When store it at the house I would take off the swim platform and store it.
Great video. My question, that has been a bit difficult to find the answer to, is how long is the engine life on the Rotax engine. Everything I read is around 500 hours. Seems like a very short life compared to other engines. Thanks!
That's a concern I had too. The answers vary wildly but it seems like model number and application make a huge difference. The 500-1,000 hours seems to be on Rotax motors in snow mobiles (which I imagine live harder lives than boats). One forum cited the marine application (not sure which output) typically lasts 2,500-3,000 following prescribed maintenance. That being said the switch has only been out a few years so time will tell if the heavier weight makes much of a difference.
the first thing I thought of when seeing the switch is like Windows for your PC. It is a "platform" that will allow 3rd parties to create all sorts of cool add ons. Personally, I am working on a water cannon to lock into the deck!!!!!!
Great video, I’m thinking about getting the 18’ so it will fit in my garage. I too was looking at the Yamaha 21 but too expensive. Anything about the switch I should consider before purchasing?
Switch owner in central Florida here. Curious how often you cross paths with other Switch boats? Personally know someone with one on the Winter Haven chain of Lakes nearby myself a few miles away. Met someone with this boat up at lake Minneola three or so months ago. One other occasion that escapes me. We have the 13 foot sport. We definitely have the same thoughts and opinions overall. Kind of conflicted because on one hand buying something this new you have to deal with the flaw designs that will probably be corrected. On the other hand I doubt my cost with price increases would make me all that happy had I waited for a better overall product. We have had some nice times with it . But I wish I knew beforehand how easily the jet boats will damage if you are not really cautious around shallow water. Hard lesson learned there.

why tape reverse lockout in? You have a truck w/ 7 pin connector, this has a reverse lockout pin. When in reverse (with trailer harness connected), it triggers a solenoid on trailer to lockout surge brakes.
