Shepherd's Pie in the Ninja Foodi (Cottage Pie)

  • This recipe for Shepherd's Pie (Cottage Pie) is one of the easiest recipes to make in the Ninja Foodi!
It's a great easy recipe for beginners and also more advanced users of the Ninja Foodi..
**Mistake in the video** The broth doesn't thicken the sauce, but it is absorbed by the flour and thereby creating a thickened sauce.
You can get the full recipe right here: thesaltedpepper.com/shepherds...
I included the roasted garlic recipe in the recipe post for Shepherd's Pie on The Salted Pepper Website, but you can also find it in the Spaghetti recipe: thesaltedpepper.com/ninja-foo...

@@TheSaltedPepper As yo said the main difference is if you use Ground Beef or Lamb and the Gravy. With Cottage Pie I like to add a couple Tea spoons of Marmite, Vegemite or Yeast Extract. With Shepperd's Pie I might add a bit of Mint (A traditional acompliment to Lamb).

I just subscribed to my first CZcams channel ever....thank YOU and your husband for doing this video... and many of the other videos myself and possibly we all have watched. I wanted to say its sooo refreshing you do not spam endorsements in your videos and let your experienced Ninja cooking talk! You just get-r-done. I bought my very special parents a Ninja 8 qt AF/PC (Air fryer/Pressure Cooker( so they can teach myself prior to jumping in on the air fryer/pressure cooking. I travel so much i actually relish the thought of the good ole down home cooking and my parents continued cooking guidance...love my parents and this new method of cooking gave them another activity in their 80th + years. Your a gem, please keep this channel going, we appreciate YOU!!!!

That's wonderful! I bet you'll be surprised to find out that you both can cook! Try not to make any adjustments in recipes until you get more familiar. All the ingredients are chosen for specific reasons, some of course are flavor enhancers, some are for liquid content and some are chosen based on cooking times. It isn't as easy as swapping one vegetable for another when pressure cooking. I have some great articles on my website if you want to take a look. Here is how to use the Ninja Foodi: thesaltedpepper.com/how-to-use-the-ninja-foodi/ Please don't hesitate to ask me questions and you can join our Facebook Group Ninja Foodi 101 if you want. Congrats on the Foodi, you are going to LOVE it!

Hubby bought me the Ninja Foodi last Christmas 2018, and finally after watching many of your wonderful videos this past week, I pulled out the Foodi. Even joined the FB group! It's great because it doesn't heat up my kitchen in S. FL. I love your approach and method of explanation - learn something new every time. I've wandered around the CZcams watching others using the Ninja, but you are in a class of your own and really have that Food Channel quality! I remember my British grandmother (60 yrs ago) making Shepherd's pie when I was a little girl. She did make it with a pie crust if my memory is correct. I loved it! I found a recipe years ago for making "Shepherd"s Pie" with lobster (cottage?) and it was absolutely delicious! Don't know what I did with the recipe, but it takes the dish up a notch, especially with wine in the sauce. Between Amazon and Pampered Chef I have a cabinet full of new kitchen cooking/baking items and my husband loves my renewed interest in cooking thanks to you! One request, if you ever come up with some meals that are converted to Keto, I would really appreciate your adaptation. I am seriously thinking of doing a Keto lifestyle diet (so hard cuz I love sweets), because I really need to cut back & lose some extra weight I have gained over the last several years. Any thoughts? Always watching and catching up! Great videos!!!

Hi Linda! Thanks so much for the kind words! I, too, need to lose weight after this past year of cooking and cooking and cooking! LOL I plan on focusing on healthy foods in January and since we eat low carb a lot of the time, I think you'll find the recipes very adaptable to keto. I don't follow keto and I do use some honey and things like that in my recipes, but they are definitely on the healthier side.

By the way, in the UK when we say ‘Worcestershire’, we don’t pronounce the middle syllable, and slightly elongate the first syllable so that it sounds like the ‘woo’ in ‘wool’, so ‘Wooster sauce’.

Thanks so much for sharing! I thought the 1 downside to the foodi vs instant pot was that you couldn't make yogurt in the foodi, but now I'm going to try! Thanks!

Thank you for making all of these ninja foodi videos. I finally got one because I loved the concept and got a great amazon deal on it but once I opened the box I was immediately overwhelmed. Going to try this recipe tonight (subbing cauli mash to ketofy it) and I can’t wait. Thank you!!

You are so welcome, I love doing them! I love to cook and the Ninja Foodi really took me by surprise. I'm amazed at how well food turns out using it! I can't wait to hear how the cauliflower mash turns out, I love cauliflower and like to eat low carb when I can (testing these recipes has packed on the pounds for sure). Please let me know if you make and timing adjustments and most importantly how you liked it!

I just made this last night for the family and we all LOVED it! I did add 1/2 tsp of oregano just because I thought it sounded good but followed the rest of the recipe. The only thing my family said they wanted was more meat so maybe next time bump it up to 2 pounds and see if that makes a difference.
But seriously, my picky eaters ate this with onions and garlic (I didn't tell them to look for it and diced onions really small) without picking it out and said they didn't know it was in there until they were finished eating when I told them what all was in it. Thank you for the delicious recipe!

Absolutely delicious recipe thank you. I made one recipe using beef, the other lamb and both came out perfect.Having lived in Ireland for 7 years I am unable to replicate Irish stew that I enjoyed so many times there. Perhaps a future quest as many of your followers in the US have irish ancestry.

This is a fantastic dish. I think next time I will par boil the carrots. Mine took an extra twenty minutes on medium to really soften. Also, I took mine out of the foodi and put the the mix in individual pot pie bowls before I added the potatoes and cheese. Then I did the final heating in the oven. Everybody has there own masterpiece that way.

As a born Scot, I am amazed at the combinations of ingredients included in your recipe. I am sure it is delish., but I guess as a purist of my families comfort food recipies I am trying to figure out how to make it in my newly purchased Ninja 8qt. We never used corn or garlic, not something in Scotland that was used 'back in the day', and we did not put cheese on it in my household either, kept it simple. I always have to use Bisto for my gravy and HP sauce on the side. But, I will give your recipe a try. Thank you for all of your tips. Love and light.

Yes, I definitely put a spin on the traditional way it's made, but it is very good if you like the added ingredients. Give it a try and let me know what you think!

Great video, Shepherds pie was made with lamb as shepherds usually had this, as there job was looking after sheep. also it was usually made with a pastry base, that way they could easily carry it into the fields (their workplace) without any further packaging. It would be eaten cold. Your videos are excellent and look very professional.

Just got the Foodi for Christmas and have watched so many of your videos and tried some of your recipes. I feel like every day I'm buying another utensil I see featured in your videos 😆.
I love how you demonstrate how to actually do each and every step, suggest options for substitutes, point out which ingredients are optional, and link everything so it's so easy to go back and find whatever you need to reference.
Have you ever tried making tamales or pozole in the Foodi?!

Hi Louise try piping your mashed potato on, you’ll get a more even distribution. The lid gets in the way so I take the pot out of the ninja foodi so I can make a good job of piping the mash, you can then sprinkle you cheeses on before putting it back in to air crisp. Love your recipes and videos.
