    **SAFETY ALERT**
    It was brought to my attention that if you do not add the room temperature broth to the hot liquid BEFORE adding the flour on top, the mixture begins to bubble and create pressure that could lead to burns. PLEASE make sure to use an actual canning jar with a metal lid AND add the 1/2 cup of room temp or cold stock to the hot liquid (this cools it down enough) BEFORE adding the flour. I do not want anyone to get hurt while making a recipe of mine. Love you guys!

    45 years ago my pressure cooked stew was legendary within our joint families; I haven’t done it for 20 years or so as I fell out of love with noisy, dangerous pressure cookers. I now use ninjas every day and tried out this recipe in my 15 in 1 today - OMG Louise, I followed it to the letter and it was OUTSTANDING! I was literally making silly noises with every mouthful! Anyone new to Ninja or The Salted Pepper HAS to make this!!! Loved it!

    Hi there, this stew is my first ever Ninja Foodi cooking. Thought I will follow this recipe because so many (read all) of you have praised this. It is in making, now pressure cooking stage. So far smell is beautiful, I let the vine nicely evaporate the alcohol and all is prepared.
    Louise, I really like the way you make these vlogs. Your pronunciation is clear, you don’t repeat same sentence over and over again, you don’t mumble, you don’t rush all over. You cook and make cooking look easy and results are delicious looking. Thank you for having time for us mortals ;)
    Edit: I had my doubts, but it was wonderful, tender, tasty, probably the best stew I have ever tasted.

    I have made this before and went back to it today. I checked out other beef stew recipes but let me tell you,…. I had a hard time finding someone that showed or walked you through the settings and how to do them. I need this because my memory is horrible after a stroke. I searched and finally found that I had subscribed to your channel and was able to find you and this recipe again. Thank God that I was smart enough to do this, because I needed the way that you teach us! BRAVO, ONCE AGAIN I MADE A GREAT STEW! Thank you so much! ❤❤❤❤❤

I have started to watch more of your videos and want your cookbooks. I will be ordering today. My wife is always apprehensive about new recipes so wasn't too sure when I said I was trying a new stew recipe instead of the normal slow cooker one but she loved it.
    There is so much flavour to it, even though I didn't add any Worcestershire sauce(an error as I thought we had some when we didn't) and the meat just melted in your mouth.
    I added some smoked paprika to my flour mix and added celery as well to ours.
    Thank you for this, I shall scroll through your other recipes now for my next meal.

    Excellent methodology for a beef stew.
    I cannot have any alcohol at all (liver transplant 2 years ago), but I have found that substituting red grape juice in lieu of red wine yields virtually indistinguishable results (according to my dinner guests). I use white grape juice for chicken, shrimp and veal dishes. I use a 1:1 ratio. Just in case there are other alcohol intolerant folks out there. Thanks Louise for your great presentations.

I have a smallish Electric Slow Cooker and quite often use Shin of Beef for the meat? Great beef stew! I've made it several times, though I'm always trying to up the taste of what I cook. I added a tablespoon of maple syrup and a can of Campbell's tomato soup. A good tip to pass along is, when you make your slurry, use room temp liquid...it helps to not worry so much about the clumping. I find the warmer the liquid, the more chance of clumping. thank you for your channel.

    I make dumplings with 100g self raising flour (if no s.r.flour - use a teaspoon/sachet baking powder) 50g suet, 5 tablespoons cold water - just those three ingredients although you can add herbs/salt. Bring it together with a fork or knife. Don’t use hands or mix too much roughly divide in half then quarters etc until you have a number of walnut size pieces add the to the stew for last 20 minutes - they will double in size at least

    Louise, you could put your drop biscuits on top of the stew, cover and cook for the amount of time for them to cook. They would have been like dumplings. I had a neighbor in New Orleans who cooked that way, it was yummy. I really enjoyed watching your videos today, thanks for sharing your recipes and your suggestions.

  • @teddibear1850

    I made this tonight! It's very good. One thing - my gravy was pretty pale looking. I think it's because I maybe was impatient browning the meat and should have gotten it more brown for more bits. So, when it was done I just added a few teaspoons of Better than Boillon beef and that helped. I also got a little bit freightened when I added the hot broth to the room temperature broth with the flour. When I added the cover there was too much pressure. I'm not sure if that's a good idea. At least mine was so hot it sort of wanted to explode, but that's a strong word, can't really explain, but there was definitely pressure there. Also, I did the 2nd cook at 3 minutes and that worked well for me. Thanks Louise for all you do for us! I love to cook and I learn something new almost every time I watch your videos...like...how to clean your mushrooms. That was news to me!

    • @TheSaltedPepper
      @TheSaltedPepper  Před 4 lety

      I would probably agree that you would have had a browner and more developed sauce if you browned the meat longer, or perhaps maybe you skipped the wine? That could have done it too. What type of container did you add the hot broth into? I didn't have any of those problems and never felt like there was pressure. I really want to hear exactly what you did and what type of container you used so I can try to figure out why that happened. Thank you for the feedback, it is very valuable to me and I appreciate your support!

    • @teddibear1850
      @teddibear1850 Před 4 lety +1

      I used a quart mason jar and put a plastic cover on right away. It was probably way too hot.

    • @TheSaltedPepper
      @TheSaltedPepper  Před 4 lety +1

      teddi bear I took mine out right away, but used a metal lid. I bet the steam was building and put pressure on the plastic lid. I will update my written post to include this. Thank you very much! I never want anyone to get hurt!

    • @teddibear1850
      @teddibear1850 Před 4 lety +1

      Ive been thinking about this a bit more. Talked to my hubby. Researched a bit. I took a half cup of beef broth. It was just room temp. I mixed it with the flour. Then as soon as the pressure was released i put about 1.5 cups of that hotter than boiling liquid in the jar. And covered it. And tried shaking it. These are all a recipe to increase pressure. I think it could be dangerous. Maybe instead just sprinkle the flour on? Just my two cents but Im no expert.

    • @TheSaltedPepper
      @TheSaltedPepper  Před 4 lety +1

      teddi bear so, good point. I did it differently in the video. I poured the room temp broth into the hot broth and that cooled it down, then put the flour on top and shook it up. I think you are right though in your conclusion. The order is important so the liquid with the fat isn’t boiling when it hits the flour. I will make a note of this on the video and in my post. Again, thank you! I would be devestated if someone hurt themselves.

    • @TheSaltedPepper
      @TheSaltedPepper  Před 4 lety +1

      Forgive me, but I'm a little confused by your question because the beef in this recipe isn't already cooked, it's only seared. If you are using prime cut of beef, like a filet or something then the time can be drastically reduced, but this is a tough cut of meat and needs that PC time to tenderize.

    • @jessicarockamann1605
