Love seeing glimpses of the surrounding area whenever you're up high. Maybe you could do a quick 360 when you're cutting near the top. I think your viewers would enjoy it. Just a suggestion.
My local arborist got an electric saw, and he says that the main advantage is not having to inhale the fumes. Most of the trees he gets are pretty small so you can cut an entire tree on one or two batteries. Of course he busts out a gas saw for a couple of final cuts if the tree gets too thick, but that's nothing compared to cutting an entire tree with a gas saw.
Running that saw on that job must be a lot nicer, no noise when it’s not running and no pull starts. That’s a great crane
For me personally…. The fumes have Never ever been the reason to switch to an electric saw lol that’s interesting one
@JC-ck4wk it saturates your clothes even I smell like nothing but saw Gas when I get home don't get my wrong still love my gas saws but not breathing in the Fumes is a plus to the battery saws
The biggest difference for me is not starting the saw. Alkylate fuels like Aspen and MotoMix also help with lower emissions.
So when the batteries go dead on the two small trees, than what? Go home and charge them for two hours?
Enjoyed the video. Nice review on the 542i. Lots of people do not know how to run battery chainsaws. They're not meant to "power through" timber. You run them right and they will do the job. Nothing like a gas chainsaw to cut the big stuff. Can't be in a big hurry with the battery saws. I use a 2500T for limbing...it's a joy to use as it's so light and well balanced. I switch to the T540i for bigger limbs (10"+) and chunking. Naturally I go to a gas saw for the big spar work. I think you explained it pretty good. Thanks.

I loved my CMC 92HD when I had it. Such a great addition to the tree industry.
I really like the soft start and stop feature on that lift. It makes all the movements so much smoother.
The lift is very similar to cotton top 3 lift and boy can he do some work with is setup,your new guy looks like he has handled a saw before and will be a good member to your crew 🏴
I'd like to see a time comparison where you have the saw hanging on your side, pick it up, and make a cut just like you would do if you were climbing a tree.
Having to start and shut off the gas saw will make them closer in time.

Interesting to compare each saw, there’s so much content comparing this and that but it always seems to come back to one thing. Use what you like! who cares if it’s a little slower on a stop watch. I like my petrol stihl and makita saws, they’re reliable with the correct maintenance just like other good brands would be. Do what makes you happy
Used to climb towers for a living and a lot of times we would use man/basket lifts. Some of the sites can be shaky access wise, like if they were in a tight alley. This spider boom would have been AWESOME to use. Only problem for us would have been the fact you can only put one person in that bucket.
You should clean out the air inlet of that electric chainsaw. I recently smoked a Karcher Electric Pressure Washer when the inlet holes got blocked. Electric motors require a good cooling system.
You can tell the size of the boy by the size of his toys. 😊 love the spider lift

I swapped my 261 to a 3/8 sprocket and got away from the.325 I love it it’s nice to have 3/8 on everything except the t handle now. IT’s stock and I run an 18 inch bar in mainly oak and hickory with a full comp chain I’ve ran a 20 on it with no problem might give it a shot and see if you like the 3/8 on it don’t remember the part number but sthil offers it as an option to swap out the sprocket throw a 3/8 bar and chain on and give it a shot
Hate to give you negative feedback as your videos are the greatest. But, the saw is not the star here. Change the title to “reviewing the new 92’ spider lift” I want to buy one now.
The clutch is because the earlier no clutch electric saws would not stop if it hits your chaps. The fibers in the chaps stop the chain by binding the clutch.

I am not an arborist or tree service but I do help to keep mtn bike and out off-road bike trails cleared if fallen trees and I'm looking for a good top handle to start using on these things. I'm leaning more towards a battery type so I don't have to carry extra gas and can put bar oil into an empty pop bottle. This video helped a lot about deciding which I should get. Thanks for doing this vid!!
I love electric saws. Tons of torque, and they are always ready. No pulling a cord 90 feet up, swaying in a bucket. And the quite. So much more peaceful. That spider lift is pretty wild to!

The saw seems to work very well. Roughly 11 minutes 30 seconds on the 1st battery which is great if you have enough batteries and chargers to keep working. God that lift is insane! I'd love to have one!

$200,000.00 -ish is a lot of beans....need to chop a few trees before adding that lift to the inventory....lol
You can rent a very similar towable zoom boom for a couple hundred bucks a day.
We use one at my work when the big zoom boom won’t fit into tight spots.
Spider lifts seem great, but that is 190k+ new. It’s wiggly when you’re up, they are fragile, don’t have much side reach and VERY few places can fix them. BUT they can get nearly anywhere (really don’t like slopes) and they’re great if you don’t have a rope climber (“anyone” can go up and cut). Plus another trailer and truck and someone to drive it.
My farm boss 290 died last year after 13 years of use. I rebuilt it as a 390 and it last half a cut before eating the chinesoum piston… for home use in winter only. I really want to see the 261 vs the new ego 20” stuff.
We love all 4 of our battery saws.

If you grease the needle bearing, it won't have that sound (plus its dry) you can you the bar grease that is used for the bar tips.

I think that when you count the time it takes for starting the gas saw up with the pulling of the string, vs, NOT having to "start" the battery saw, the cutting times are actually equal. Many videos I see, guys are constantly cutting off the engine, thus you have to add that time, each time you shut down. If you leave the saw running, the gas would beat it out every time!

I want to get into tree cutting even tho I don’t like heights that much I used to work for Comcast and I have learned to stop looking down and get your work done and down I’ve been as high as 27 ft and I feel like using that I will be okay at 40 50 60 ft I’ll be okay but I have researched and learned it’s a win win with tree cutting you can make a lot cutting them down but you can also make fire wood wood chips and everything you can make money on as long as you have customers you will be okay unlike most businesses but I wish you nothing but the best and a safe work day buddy!!!
My experience with Makita GCU06T1 with 18", it faster than 50cc Gasoline chainsaw, but battery cutting time lower than Petrol tank.
The go pro does not do it justice. 92ft with nothing below your feet is scary asf. And it sways so much but they definitely make life a lot easier and potentially safer. Thanks again for the video.
That spider lift looks like a great next investment. It will definitely save your body from having to climb as much and save your back and knees when you get older

Hey, I would love to see you. Try out the new Dewalt electric top handle or 20 inch rear handle. I have not seen many reviews about the DeWalt top handle and I think that the 20 inch rear handle would really surprise you.

Curious… why didn’t you have the saw attached to you with a rope? You weren’t afraid you would drop it?
I bought the 542 in April after using the 540i since it was released (had a 536lixp before that). It's so heavy with the addition of the clutch I'm liking it less and less. The weight makes me only want to use it for removals and then it drains 200x batteries before I can finish a medium sized tree I'd be better off using my 200T. Honestly thinking about trying to sell it; it wasn't worth the $750. I still have the 540i, which just had a new side cover released to improve chip clearing. I'm also throwing the chain off the rim on the 542 a lot.
So you think the 540i is a better buy? Looks like the 540i is now a fair bit cheaper since it is the old saw.

You had me sold on that last husky you ran for so long, but the thing is their stupid expensive, where as me owning a landscape biz where I’m always cutting little stuff up and whatnot, already having the milawaukee batteries for days, that little hatchet the 8” one stock is wicked, and now the top handle one too I love them for the money, and man your buddy that had the big bar mod on his hatchet? Nah he jacked that thing up bro cause stock with a 8” bar and stupid sharp chain that thing will eat at backcuts without any of that kicking like his was fighting you, if you had one and spent any time using a stock one man you wud be in love trust me. Don’t Jack with the bar tho

Hi Jacob, yesterday I had to open a trail because a 28” black walnut uprooted, my 353 was doing well taking a large wedge out of the top, then trying to take a little out of the bottom it got pinched bad. Had a 262 to cut it out. These battery saws are really fast.

Great job Jake.... have you checked out Cotontop3 and his setup? I know Tim doesn't do as many big tall trees like you have in the Northwest, but his spider lift seems to work well for him without a lot of employees which keeps your costs down.

When going gas vs electric I feel like you should add in the time to start it. My opinion
True, maintenance is a big part. If you are a professional, dealer maintenance can be a business expense...or if you do it yourself. Expensive saws are also expensive to fix. For the average homeowner, who is not cutting trees every day, an electric saw is far more user friendly. Keep the battery charged, and it's ready to go whenever you need it. If you're in an urban or suburban environment, noise and fumes can be an annoyance for neighbours. Nobody wants to have the HOA giving them a hard time, if you feel like cutting on the weekend. lol
The electric saw is awesome but I do like the sound of the gas one a lot better. It just sounds powerful.
Kinda like the feature that you can choose a battery for weight or stamina. It's like having 2 saws in 1.

On the three saw comparison at the end of the video , the older battery saw seemed to have trouble clearing the chips , maybe the chip deflector is damaged leading to a clogged drive sprocket area ?

Hey Jake this is Greg Ritter the guy up in SeaTac. You’ve been out to the house and gave me a bid on our neighbors tree we met them. Are you looking for somebody full-time or part-time? I’m retired. Have a drivers license have done tree work myself everything from feeding the chipper to climbing the trees, been around for quite a while

Bud, hear me out! One handing a trim saw is frowned upon. However we all do it! If i could say just two things to watch out for. I noticed two things you were doing. Thats making an accident more likely.
1. You are crossing your arms a lot! Putting your arm directly above the saw. Try to switch hands, i know its awkward at first. And you were throwing in a tight area. But practice makes perfect!
2. You one handed the saw to cut chunks of wood. But then put the saw in the scabbard. Which has me scratching my head. Why not just use a snap cut? So you can use two hands, and alleviate as many one hand cuts as possible.
I totally understand why you one hand, its silly to buy a top handle and not use it one handed!
But ijs, theres ways to do it. And still be relatively safe!
You've come a long ways! Theres things you do now. That im like huh, i might have to try that.
But one thing about tree work, is to be humble enough to know youll never know everything.
Sometimes its good getting critiqued! We get set in our ways for too long, and then we will be doing something the hard way. Just because its comfortable to us! Otherwise keep killing it man, you have advanced a lot in a short period! Stay safe and God Bless!
try limb walking over all 3 phases on the power lines, i do power line clearance so im used to being near/ over the lines, def kinda scary at times
Mixed feelings at best about that spider lift. Ran it for a year and it spent more time at FMI not getting fixed for weeks on end than it ever did in operation. Home button never worked. Something goes wrong with it and you’re waiting on someone in Italy to read their email. City of Kirkland bought one and it sat in the FMI yard in Monroe for weeks because the thing throws error codes you can’t read without the remote. So much wasted production time.
Are the JLG "spider lifts" a lot more expensive? I imagine their ~100ft model costs a lot more as it has two different booms. I haven't gotten to use them very often but once in a while in construction.

Not to nit-pick, but I'm gonna. Those timing runs cutting cookies added a couple seconds on each saw. The timer would run almost a full extra second at the end of each cut. Nothing against Isaac, but I imagine he's not very great at video games with those slow reactions! 🤣
