- Taking advantage of my 2024 Annual Pass to Brown Mountain ORV Park in NC and went off-roading again there for the third time in my 2024 Ram Power Wagon (aka Red Beast). We decided on late notice to run this trail during the week and this time I brought some new friends along for the adventure (Joe and Bill). It was Bill’s first time off roading ever and he brought his yellow Jeep Wrangler 4 door out for some fun on the trails. We all had a great time. Special thanks to both Joe and Bill for providing additional video footage for this video.

Nice! Red beast looking good out there.
I can’t wait to take my son off roading, we just ordered an RHO
My goodness that is one beautiful rig! Love that color!
Thanks. Don't look too closely at the pinstripes, I mean character marks... 🤣
Fun trail ride! Bill did great for his first time, looked like a seasoned veteran out there!
He did well. It might have been since he had his roof and doors off. 😂
👍👍😁
I had often wondered if a 2500 sized truck could navigate these tighter, narrower East coast mountain trails… Now we know!
As long as you are okay with pinstripes, you can fit most places. Just finished up some trails at Windrock in TN (videos to follow) and it made the Brown Mtn trails look somewhat wide and spacious.
Awesome PW!! Im gonna get a PW here soon I hope!!
Thanks. They are definitely fun on the trails.
I need to get out there again
Let's go!
Great video. I don’t see any obstacle that you went over that the stock 33” tires couldn’t have handled. I run my PW through mountain trails here in Montana with stock tires without any issues. I think stock is the best way to go, however, I do put 37’s on when I go to MOAB, because you really need a couple of inches more clearance because that place has insane obstacles.
Thanks. PW on stock 33s would have no issue on this trail. On a recent adventure to Windrock Park in TN, those 37s came in handy.
Quick note: 35” tires are actually only 1” taller than 33” tires. There’s really not a huge enough increase in capability to justify the expense and the additional wear and tear on the drive train.
Thanks for the feedback. In my case, the stock 33 Duratracs were 32.13” loaded height and my 37s measure out at 35.5” (3.37” taller, 1.7” extra ground clearance). I have no rub with my setup at full steering lock and full articulation (I actually have even more articulation than the factory with the Thuren suspension but the bump stops are the same). Actually working on getting the truck setup to run 38s. I will need additional clearance at the front bumper and inner fenders to make that happen with no rub. Where I plan on offroading extra ground clearance definitely helps. :)
Nice, have you had any issues with high center with the long wheel base yet?
Not yet. I have bumped the front and rear diffs on some rocks. In one case I sorta plowed thru a rock with the Carli Front Diff Guard. That will be in an upcoming video. The truck is 18.5” high at the lowest point in the center at a skid plate.
calling all power wagons of nc and sc meet and greet at uharrie make date and post to all
Thanks for watching. Reach out and join up to the Southeastern Power Wagon Facebook group. There are scheduled rides setup on that site.
What size tires is the red beast rockin?
Thanks for watching. Toyo Open Country RT Trail 37x12.5x17. See this video for the tires mounting.. czcams.com/video/frN7mm4JTYU/video.html. If interested there are lots of videos on this channel detailing the build (see the Origins playlist).
Do you like that suspension feel over the stok one ? Looking to change mine and doest know what i am gonna put on it
Love the Thuren/Carli suspension I have on there. I have more wheel travel (8" to 9.5" in the front and 9" to 11" in the rear) which all adds up to more articulation. The 37s absolutely do not rub at all at full flex and full steering lock with my configuration and it rides better than it did from the factory.
