      I don't know about proud yet.
      I think Rhaenys is more or less staying neutral demonstrated by her lack of kneeling like the others during her coronation and Rhaneyra's intro in the war room. Only when Rhaneyra went against Daemon to try to resolve the rebellion peacefully rather than go head strong with dragons that Rhaenys realized her niece is the right one for the throne. This of course was verified when she talked Lord Corlys into backing her instead of them becoming neutral parties in retirement.

    • @courtkendell
      @courtkendell Před rokem +15

      absolutely. the song itself is called “the crown of jaehaerys” (her grandfather) who crowned viserys. ironically, jaehaerys (much like most of the kingdom) was heavily male-heir driven (as we know, his son viserys was initially too). jaehaerys crowned viserys, instead of rhaenys (the queen that never was). rhaenys swore that rhaenyra would never be crowned as the kingdom would never be okay with a woman as heir (she was right, of course). rhaenyra gets crowned anyway, here, fulfilling a poetic and prophetic irony.

    True to the books, Daemon places the crown on Rhaenyra's head personally. What's funny about this is that Matt Smith also played young Philip Mountbatten in the first two seasons of The Crown. • @lshe97
      @lshe97 Před rokem +7

      @@MiraTheWarlock Exactly. He's wrong, but his understanding of events make total sense. Last time D&R were in King's Landing, the Greens were very much in control, keeping the king drugged out of his mind so they could do as they pleased; that is, until Viserys used what strength he had to come to Rhaenyra's aid, foiling the Greens' plan to further weaken the Blacks. Fast forward a few hours and Rhaenys suddenly arrives on Dragonstone on her dragon and in full armor, tells them that Viserys is dead, that no one informed her of how he died, and that Alicent demanded her support and then crowned Aegon as king - in both direct defiance of Viserys' settled-for-two-decades plan for his succession and in such haste that they avoided informing the "previous" heir of any of this occurring. So yeah... regardless of Daemon being predisposed to despising the Hightowers with every fiber of his being, this would sound like a regicidal coup d'état to anyone.

      @@alessiodandolo1460 If he made an "exception", then he did change the law, even if the change was a one off. That's what "changing the law" means in a medieval monarchy. It doesn't matter how "dangerous" the antecedent is, Rhaenyra is the lawful heir, just like Stannis is, just like Shireen would be (Stannis appointed her his heir in the Theon TWOW chapter).

    • @alessiodandolo1460
      @alessiodandolo1460 Před 10 měsíci +1

      @@subroy7123 Exactly not, your first mistake is to confuse an oath with a royal edict. No edict has come to confirm Rhaenyra as heir, the proof being that when Aegon was born, most of the great lords considered him their future king. Your second mistake is to contradict yourself by taking the example of Stannis: you consider him the heir because Cersei's children are illegitimate, except that King Robert recognized them as his own. And yet, the public overwhelmingly sees Stannis as the rightful heir. You're legalistic about Stannis, but not about Aegon. If succession rules are created, it is precisely to avoid conflicts. If these rules can change according to the moods of the king, then they are useless and there is chaos.

      No I don’t think he is jealous maybe a long time ago but not now he has a look of understanding in his eyes that he knows he will never be the true king but a king consort I think he has accepted that.

      No, not at all. He places the crown on Rhaenyra's head and is the first to bow before her, and it's clear there's no mixed feelings by that point, you can see in his eyes. She's his queen.

    The thing that annoys me about this first season is sure it is great but time skips ruin the character development. If I'm right he was in one of the twin kingsguard. The impact in the book for he and his brother is so intense. One remained unquestionably loyal to the blacks and rightful queen and the other to the greens. The show didn't have to fast track so many amazing back stories for viewer retention since they were obviously worried about how GOT ended and lost all the fans they rushed to fast track action. This does a huge disservice because as great as the show is 90% of the viewers don't understand how powerful this scene really is without reading the book. There's to many characters to list that seem background characters and they are some of the best storylines I just wish got the development they need because they are huge parts of this war and nobody will know them. GOT would have you swear you'd never love another character again because you didn't want to grow attached. Then they took their developing them and you inevitably grew attached over and over again so the impact of deaths was constant. So far only 1 death lucerys has had any effect and even then it was minor. They spent almost no time building up either set of brothers and lucerys wasn't a wimp like in the show. He was actually a very good swordsman at a young age and brave as any dragon. The show makes it seem like he and Aegon could throw these guys around when really aegon should've had his head slammed on the table at the dinner scene well the other 2 brothers squared off.

      90 percent if what they skipped is filler content. Not needed and would have made the show more of a slice of life bullshit. It's hard to portrat over 20 years of little happening without it being boring and they did it well

      You also have to remember people are still pissed about GOT and just want the Gods Eye and the Dance of Dragons so they had to take a gamble and make season 1 as prequel as they can so it makes sense in seasons 2 and 3

      I hear what you’re saying but unfortunately no matter what they chose to do it’s just impossible for a show to go into as much detail as a book can. If they would’ve went over all the stuff your talking about it would’ve taken like multiple seasons to get through all that and a lot of people might have fallen off watching the show if the first 2-3 seasons is Slice of life type storylines covering less important characters and storylines. They made a conscious decision to get past the time skipping in this first season so they could get the best stuff as quickly as they could in the seasons to follow without compromising the integrity of the story. I think while yes the multiple time skips in the span of 10 episodes was a bit jarring overall they handled it well

      They have never cited law as aegon right to rule, only precident and the kings word is law, therefore aegon is a userper, no ifs or buts about it. If that wasn't the case then the greens wouldn't be trying to keep rhaenyra in the dark the way they did. They know they are legally wrong.

      You do realise that the time your talking about, Daemon is in his 30s, and Cole is in his 20s, so they are both grown men who should know better. Rhaenyra was a 16 year old who has just had her first ever sexual experience and didn't have any idea how to react or deal with it. She TRUSTED HER UNCLE Daemon, and he was perposly trying to get her in shit. Cole was a kingsguard sworn to celibacy, and he has so little restraint that he couldn't say no to a flirty 16 year old?
      Nah I blame the adults.

    I adore the contrasts between this and Aegon's coronation. Everyone here is kneeling before her out of genuine loyalty and support rather than personal ambition or coercion, because they believe in her and her right to be Queen.
