I personally think that with all the plot threads and details he has set up in the past 5 books, he has absolutely no idea how to end the story in a satisfying manner bar a preliminary idea. I genuinely think he's going to let the show finish his story and wait for death to be his excuse for the books not being released. He's made far more money from the show than he ever would from releasing the last two books.

I loved the Rothfuss and Sanderson references, but to be fair Sanderson is a beast who pumps out books twice a year unlike the others.
The progress bars on his website are truly a sight to behold.
Rothfuss is a piece of shit, he said he finished the third book 4 years ago, he just had to edit some things. Still waiting.
Sanderson is a writing machine - he just has a decent timeline that he sticks to.

I started an incomplete series once. It had 5 out of 10 books out. He promised to release one book each year. Five years later he finished the series. He actually fulfilled his promise. It was awesome.
It's called A Malazan Book of the Fallen.
P.S. About a year before I started that series, I started A Song of Ice and Fire. It had 3 books out. 15 years later it has 5 books out. Awesome!
Throwing shade on Rothfuss is entirely justified, because he too is never going to finish that series, but Sanderson?
He puts out like 3 books a year! Dude is a writing machine; I have complete faith that he's going to finish the Stormlight series. Plus like 30 other Cosmere novels.
And "A song of Ice and Fire" and "The KingKiller Chronicle" once both Martin and Rothfuss bite the dust, he will thus be known as "Bran the Finisher."
Not to mention he helped finish off the Wheels of Time books too.
Though, we'd have to bank on Patrick Rothfuss kicking it prematurely. Perhaps Brent Weeks can be hired to speed things along?

When George RR Martin starts appearing in sketches about him not finishing the book you know it's never coming out.
Sanderson finished his First Trilogy unlike PR.
Sanderson put out 3 books of a 4 book series and is writing the fourth.
Sanderson finished Wheel of Time for Robert Jordan after he passed away.
Sanderson stuck to his deadlines and released 3 epics with over a 1000 pages each in 7 years. The fourth part is coming next year.
He finished a Young Adult sci fi Trilogy.
I'm pretty sure he will finish A Song of Ice and Fire and Kingkiller for Martin and Rothfuss.
While I have faith in him finishing the cosmere, theres no way hes going to finish ASOIAF for Martin. I doubt he'd even get permission for it, and even if he did it's not his favored genre.
Doubtful. Sanderson's style and GRRM couldn't be further apart. Nor do I think could Sanderson write characters grounded so deeply in reality as George R R Martin. The man can't even write a believable romance.

Hey, Fire and Blood was awesome! It was my first GRRM book and got me hooked.
I thought it was good. Just because it's not continuing the main series doesn't make it bad.

I love the Stormlight Archive every bit as much as SOIAF and Kingkiller. Can't recommend it enough!
Sanderson is a machine, he plots out his writing schedule on his website, give regular updates on all his projects, and once actually wrote an extra book by accident (he couldn't get into the 2nd book, so he started writing the 3rd book to get some momentum....and ended up finishing both).
Also, IMO he is pretty much unrivaled in terms of world & character building.
Brandon Sanderson is the man! He's a book pumping machine with at least 2 coming out each year and he has updates on his website for the progress of each book he is writing and expected dates for when things should be done

Not until 7 years in the future
To be honest all this extra stuff that George RR is giving us is the kind of stuff I wish we could have gotten from Robert Jordan. An age of legends series would have been amazeballs.
The pattern of book releases seems to be vaguely exponential. I calculated that based on the previous lengths between book releases, the Winds of Winter will come out in 2020, which is good news. A Dream of Spring, however, would come out in 2033, at which point GRRM would be 85... it's not impossible that the series will be finished, and my hope (hope, not belief) is that it'll be easier to write ADoS than TWoW, because by that point he'd be nearer the end. Also because as he gets older it might be more pressing.
Probably not, though.

Having Rothfuss at the end is funny but Sanderson is a writing machine who will probably finish the remaining 6 books in Stormlight as well as the entirety of the rest of the Cosmere and 42 other stuff before GRRM finishes ASOIAF. Maybe something like The Lies of Locke Lamora would have better
10 years ago this would’ve been something you’d only find on “Is Winter Coming?” - a site for cynics and trolls of the series. Now their view is mainstream and there’s no one to blame but George. Definitely tarnished his legacy.

I think it was good that Rothfuss was called out here. He's exactly the same as George. There are some that say that artists should be left alone to create on their schedule, but in my opinion if they are running around chasing endorsement deals and tv and movie show rights, then that is also not very artistic of them. We the fans literally made them as prolific as they are, and it's not like completing a book once every 5-10 years is such a big ask. There a lot of fiction writers with much higher output than that to demonstrate the opposite.

Sanderson actually DOES finish his book series; he even finishes the book series of other authors!

I think they were just looking for two famous book series that weren't finished for the purpose of the joke. Brandon Sanderson definitely has a famous book series that isn't finished.
@@88michaelandersen I'm sure they were, but the comment section is filled with people point out that Sanderson doesn't work and the thing is, their other choice of Patrick Rothfuss works perfectly fine, since HE really IS just as bad as GRR Martin when it comes to getting the next book out.
I'm sure there are other authors out there who would have worked better; JV Jones for instance, had the 4th book in her series set to come out in 2010 and it STILL has yet to (though I think she actually has personal reasons she struggled to continue).
You could argue the Jones is not as well known as Sanderson, but the retort is that anyone who knows Sanderson will be taken out of the joke. In fact you kind of have to know about The Stormlight Archives for the joke to work, but if you do then you know that it doesn't really make sense.
The funny thing is that even after Winds of Winter is released....there's still one more book after that.
The ending is totally me! (except I love the Stormlight Archive but I don't really like the King Killer Chronicles without a specific reason)

I like how I've reached a point in my life where I could tell she was reading The Way of Kings from the first second they showed a tiny corner of the cover.
Being an author is hard. It's hard to start, it's hard to get published, it's hard to succeed and make money, it's hard to write successful sequels (if you do so), it's hard to appease the fans. And yet fans get oh so grumpy when George R.R. Martin just wants to go on a few sidequests.

I keep seeing everyone talk about The Stormlight archives but that's just a series within a series, The main series is the Cosmere. The whole Cosmere series is slated to end in the year 2050ish, at least with Brandon you kinda know when you'll be getting the next book. Also at this rate >.> Brandon will probably finish Game of thrones for martin.

Also, just a note about that line at the end, PLEASE keep reading incomplete series. I'm writing a book series, but if people don't want to buy them until the series is done, it will never be done because I won't be able to afford to write them. For something like Game of Thrones, yeah, whatever. But for smaller titles, the authors absolutely depend on continued support to keep making the books.

I read through his 5 books of Percy. Can't take it. He tried too hard to be hip, made his characters like cool teenagers but in the 90s.... The emo, the overly sense of justice, the insecurity inner thought. My god....

When I read the new book I was really surprised to learn that the whole story was actually set in our world and everything was just a a little boy's dream. I didn't like that the last 6 chapters consisted entirely of songs Daenerys and Drogon sang to each other but i did like that the little boy learned to believe in himself in the end.
Ok seeing the name of the wind hurt me in the soul (where are you, doors of stone???)
