    When divers talk about regulators they are usually talking about a complete set of regulators which is typically made up of a first stage, hoses, a second stage, a redundant second stage (normally referred to as an Octopus) and an instrument console (which can include pressure gauge, depth gauge, compass or possibly a dive computer)
    All of these components can be bought individually but manufacturers match suitable elements together to create pre-assembled packs to meet a number of uses and environments that both recreational and technical divers typically find themselves in.

    I’ve been diving the Atomic ST-1since 2019. Love it. Good for cold dives (about 46° F). Never had a freeze up.

    I do love this video, I chose the abyss as my FIRST reg set. along with Mission Puck 2, MV Octo. I just used it for 25 dives, Great set, Breathing out of the abyss was easier than breathing normally. great reg. I love the way the MR22+ 1st stage looks and works. Aqualungs always flutter, i first time diving used aqualung legend rented, and every breath i had to break a seal. Abyss is a bit heavy, but with the right mouth piece and flex hose, it's more than you can expect, completely seemless breathing. in 25 dives, some going past 45mins, I only went below 1000psi twice, once cuz i got lost, and once cuz instructor wanted to go in a quest.
    GREAT VIDEO!!!!

    The Apeks XL4+ is my favorite, it has a 2nd HP port and a white colored second stage (instantly recognizable under water as well), nicely compact and very light breathing at any temperature and depth conditions. Was about to buy the Aqualung LX Supreme because of its Master Breathing System, but walked out with the Apeks one, best buy ever!

      Have you tried the flights version? I have them but was wondering if the xl4 breath better? I need cold water regs and im thinking the xl4. I dive the UK so flights are no good throughout colder months

    Love the aqualung legend! I use the legend lx! Lightweight and compact with all the bells and whistles! I was doing a pool session checking my buoyancy with a steel 12l at 50 bar, I sucked the cylinder absolutely dry and didn’t notice any difference until the last few breaths! I also love the apeks black ice and the scubapro A700 with the MK25! I also enjoyed the aqualung mikron when I used it on a dive in Mozambique! But my legend stays tops! With the parts for life, the ACD and the performance! All round my favorite regulator set!
    Thanks for reading
    Safe diving!

      I'm right there with you, Aaron. I tried out various regulators -- ScubaPro, Mares, an old Dacor... (Anyone remember them?) and I went with the Aqua~Lung Legend LX Supreme. After two years with it I'm still so happy that when I needed another second stage (to put on an OTS Spectrum full-face mask) I bought a Legend Supreme. It's a little cheaper than the LX, because it has a venturi lever rather than the Master Breathing System knob, but is still excellent, and of course it works with the Legend LX first stage. Win/Win situation.

      My primary is also an LX supreme with an Apeks xtx 200 as an octopus. I like the LX a little more but they are pretty close, naturally. I dove an Atomic B2 for years. Good reg but it often whistles and is a bit more mechanical in is breathing than the buttery LX. Also have an a700/mk17 and my 1990s conshelf is still in service with one of my kids. Bullet proof!

    Had an MR22 Abyss since 1995. Just had the first free flow as I entered the water, which I couldn't stop. Previously had a few small leaks which I could live with on the dive but which needed adjustment afterwards. Typically these small leaks were following a service where it had been adjusted too far towards ease of breathing. I suspect the free flow happened because I had taken it to a new dive shop for a service, who no longer supply Mares products, and they may have cheated a bit on the service. But, of course, the whole unit is pretty old now, so could give more problems in future.
    Now considering if I should retire it and spend the money on a new Apeks.

  • @Musiknird
    @Musiknird Před 3 lety

    I have apeks dst that is a great allround reg that works really well in cold water, same with my scubapro MK16 and MK17. But I've absolutely love my apeks flight reg for it's lightness, performance, reliability and is outstanding to travel. I would recommend cressi MC9 and MC10 as well because you get a great reg value for a very reasonable price. Sadly cressi regs has a bad rep but after cressi took the critics seriously they made really great regs.

    I still use my MR22/42 first stage combo plus Abyss 2nd for cold water, and the MR42+Abyss when traveling. The breathing comfort without the need of a ventury lever or effort control knob is outstanding. In Germany a lot of people use Apex or Mares MR/Abyss and some Scuba Pro or Poseidon because water is cold here... ;-)
