Agreed on most points. Graduated from T.O.C. in 1994 - BEST life decision I've ever made. It continues to pay dividends long after leaving the industry. Great option for the hungry and talented, clear-thinkers. Commercial Diving is NOT for everyone - you better love challenges, dark/murky water, long hours away from home.

When I started my PADI e-learning for Open Water a few months ago, I went on eBay and bought a PADI eRDPml. I had no idea they were more than 5 years into complete obsolescence. EBay should have been a clue I guess 😆

I prefer having the spool line already attached to the DSMB when stored in a pocket. One less thing to drop or worry about while at depth.

Be aware of magnetic interference, and keep your lamp and computer away from your compass. I have issues with this compass underwater. It works fine on the surface, but when I’m underwater the needle stopped moving freely.

About the non-diving equipment in scuba diving... You're selling scuba equipment, don't you? Yeah, sounds like something a scuba shop would say. I use non-diving carabiners in scuba. Not the cheapest ones, the ones with stainless springs - they work fine. I also use some other DIY things which just work. Oh, and the cheaper copies. Yes, the branded one will (probably, not always)be better, but let people decide if they want to pay for it. Let them decide whether or not they need the real 1.000 lumen, maybe they're fine with 3/4 the power for 1/10 of the price? I know I am. And some of my friends when heard how much I paid for my torch asked me to order one for them too - despite already having the one with "real" 1.000 lumen one. Again... That's not a good advice, that's an advice from someone who sells equipment for living. Edit: ok, I'm done watching. This video is one huge ad. Here's a shortcut: "buy only from us, only the expensive and only the newest gear, everything else is dumb and/or will kill you".

Why not just learn to reach for the octo in case of OOA situation? That way your partner won't even think about reaching for your primary, the reflex will be to reach for the octo.

Doing my open water with a padi isntructor and he's been reccomended to me by a very experienced tech diver. This isntructor is allowing me to start with a wing straight away :D I've been to SSI and SDI instructors that stated i needed to start with a jacket style BCD... It's the instructor that counts not the agency.

I will NEVER support more government interference and infringements on freedoms. Are we free people or not? I take a small line cutter+-small shears but no knife as many coral sites don't allow it. I take a large mesh bag which takes little space and I do have a small SPG in addition to my AI computer.

I am still diving at 68 & started when I was 13 before an agency exusted. I too dived from 1969 with J-valves until they were fazed out. The J-valve saved my butt several times with reserve air to bail out on. I have done many a free accent from 25m for traing & free accent from 45m following my bubbles. Not easy but I wss young, fit and very bold. I agree with resetting issue which was part of our buddy checks and feel that the steel rod is not the best method of operating the valve. J-Valve and UOV is the way I will go, if I can find a set of twin-set J's. Best of the old and new.
