  • In this video I talk about how to buy permethrin in concentrated form and dilute it into a spray bottle. I don’t set foot in the woods without permethrin tick spray until at least the first frost. I’ll leave an amazon link below to the products I use. Thanks for watching!

What's cool is that permethrin is originally derived from chrysanthemum flowers, the seed casings in particular. Other flowers contain it as well, marigolds, daisies.. Flower power!

Man, I just finished mixing up a batch and sprayed my deck and all my hunting clothing for tomorrow's turkey hunt and continue for scouting and deer season. Like you, I'm a tick magnet. My wife one time pulled off 30 deer ticks off me. I'm sure she missed some, but hopefully no more. Great video!!!

At 13% concentration, you should use 25 parts water to 1 part permethrin to get 0.5% (13% of 1oz is 0.13oz; 0.13oz in a total of 26oz is 0.5%)

Definitely spray your clothes the night before and let dry overnight. Good to go.

I just purchased for chiggers. I am hoping and praying it works for them.
PS…sadly I have Lyme disease and 3 co-infections from ticks, in Northern California. Took several years to diagnose. I am an advocate, that IF you have one attach, go to doctor and get Doxycycline 100mg and take for 30 days. This would have helped my body kill the disease. It’s pretty much a generic antibiotic that works miracles.

My problem is a river is less than 1/4 mile away. I eventually get a few mosquitoes inside my house, and they get me often while I am on the computer. It is warm enough that I run fan and I cannot here the mosquitos. When I see one it normally means I had already been bit.
So, I started with a bottle of the Sawyer's. My experience is that the mosquitos stay away from the treated clothing (sprayed) but they still get any exposed skin so there is still a need for something like deet or some of the smelly natural insect repellent I have. Unfortunately, it is often too hot for a long-sleeved shirt and in particular if I go outside like at get bit anyway.
One of the things it helped with was I found before spraying the clothing I was getting bit through my pants and socks. That has stopped. If I am wearing a sprayed long sleeve shirt if I leave the front unbuttoned, I occasionally get bit through my T-shirt.
I am on a Busch craft forum. One of the forum members lives in a tick area where he has them in his yard. He said they seem to stay away from white clothing. You at least could certainly see them easier on white clothing. I also read mosquitos prefer dark colors. I bought a pair of white hospital scrub pants and with the spray the mosquitos stay away from them.
I have read that with permethrin on your clothing it kills the bugs. That is not happening with the mosquitos in my house. Either they don't land, or they land does not absorb any permethrin.
For mosquitos. I bought a net bug suit. Unfortunately made in China and the largest size is tight. Anyplace the mesh/net is against your skin you can get bit. I have not gotten as far as spraying the net suit with permethrin.
I bought an inexpensive sort of jungle hammock. The lower part is nylon, and the upper parts are net. I set that up on my bed and it works for mosquitos and ants as you are all zipped inside. Except if a body part lays against the net you can get bit through the mesh.
I am about at the end of my Sawyer's spray and have a bottle of the Martain's 10% permethrin and this is one of the sites I looked at about mixing a batch of that.
I am having a tough time believing how many times treated clothing can be washed and still be effective. There is no way to test that effectiveness without you being the lab rat.
I only know of one local area where I live in S California that had Ticks and in one incident my father and my Dog got one each. Other than that, been out 100s of times camping with boy scouts (in the 1960's) and so on and no one ever said they got ticks.
    Best wishes to all.

I don't think you mean 0.5% it should be 5% - at least that's what the £20 ($25) 30g cream I got from the chemist for my scabies infested skin. Bedding stuff is usually 10% so I was wondering can I just mix the bedding stuff with E45 cream 50:50 to half the strength? Is that 50/50 by volume or by weight and also I worried that some moisturizers might either lead to greater than desired absorption of what is, essentially, a poison or maybe just react to neutralise it some way perhaps by locking it up in to some new long chain polymer where it can't do any good or just by creating a barrier on the skin that then when dries it just falls off. Fact that you're talking about 0.5% is concerning I think you mean something like 5 parts out of 100 then conflation resulted in this new figure... ?
My other concern of course was the possible presence of carcinogenic additives in the veterinary one which given we slaughter our cattle before they get old enough to get cancer might not be an issue for them as I'm going to live for at least another 150 years cancer causing carcinogens are something that I want to avoid!
