Realistic Ethical Shot Distance

How close do you need to get for an ethical shot? It’s different for everyone, but be honest with yourself when practicing. Shots should be made in actual field/hunting conditions. Thanks for watching and shoot straight! Hiko Ito Knives: hikoito.com/

Instinctive Shooting: How It’s Going So Far

Going towards a more fluid, more instinctive type of shooting has helped open up more tuning and arrow combinations. I originally stated shooting this way with my ASLs but I’m finding I’m able to apply this method to all of my bows. Light Arrow Vs. Heavy? Where Do They Impact?

The debate will always rage on, but light vs. heavy arrow is more than just about down range efficacy. You need to be comfortable with your arrow’s trajectory and have confidence in your sight picture. I walk through my setup on my Javaman Elkheart longbow and discuss why my arrow is so dang heavy! That last shot was butter! Let's get after our "hit list" when you're down here:). Jason needs to join us on a hunt sometime.
3 under feels wrong to me
What time of season do they start taking applications?
I’m pumped for this opener, my first year bow hunting and with a recurve. As a Minnesotan myself I’m crunching hard to get my setup top notch. Either way itll be a good teaching season. Haven’t seen a deer in the field for 7 years so hopefully my luck changes this year!
Hey friend, I'm a fellow CZcamsr from the PNW. I'm just starting out with long bow.. I've been shooting compound for year and decided to long bow. Super stoked. I'm your latest subscriber by the way... I make outdoor videos on my channel... Best of luck to you and everyone in here this hunting season. xplrnw
No doubt about it, the Mushins are incredible shooting bows. I hope you get after some critters with it this year, mate. After I blow my compound arrows up on critters I'm going to do some hunting with some ASL's over our summer I think.
Very nice, I have a second mushin’ coming from Erik very soon. Will be using my OG one for opening day elk on the 2nd
Good luck this season, looking forward to hear about how you’re new bow and new shooting style came together in the field 🤙
I'll be in NC opening weekend with my Mushin in hand too! Good luck to you and Jim!
Thanks, man! Good luck this season. The weather for opening week looks awesome.
Put arrow point into a cup of hot water for 30 sec. Insert pulls right out! Doesn't need to be boiling, just out of the hot tap, 60 degrees celsius (140f)
HAve a great hunting trip! Cant wait to hear about it.
Awesome setup! Hope you have a great season, buddy!!
I'm starting the season with a 60 in Bear Grizzly recurve 50# @28. Arrows are Easton aluminum 500s at 28 in. Using a cutthroat 200 single bevel with a 100 gr insert. All left wing Backup is my Old Mountain Mesa longbow. 50# @28, GT carbon 500s with steel force 300 gr broadheads and 100 gr insert. 19 days to GA bow opener!😊
At least you admit you pluck. 😆
Great video! Love the quiver since I think I want to change. 45# 1971 Bear Grizzly. We are almost exactly in grain and length of arrow, using same arrows as you. Good luck this season.
Great video! You know Eric has inline grippers for his quivers, I definitely prefer it over the back two. My primary bow is a 67” selfbow, 46#, backup is a Bear takedown 60” 43# Best of luck this fall
@@StickHippieOutdoors thanks Bill. Appreciate it. I know about the in-line gripper. Just haven’t ordered it yet
Want to sell your Pacific Styk? 😅 Sounds like you’ll be ready to go for deer season. Thanks for the video and good luck.🤞

CZcamsr Knights of the Apex suggests cinching smaller water bottles down under the compression strap that runs through the water bottle pocket.
Nice looking rig! I have a Selway slide on for my Grizzly recurve. Works great.
@@sarafayelawton652 love my Selways
This was interesting to watch. Thanks
It looks like a stabil nail driver. You will adjust to the grip.
Looks like my top archery bow thats on route
Couldn’t get judos to fly well??? I have NEVER heard that before???
I really enjoy your channel, keep it up.
any shot that makes you question should never be taken.
Good shooting. What range is this?
You’ve recently compacted your form to an actual hunting form that will hunt well in the whitetail woods. Slow and smooth. Looks great. 50 years of hunting with a longbow in south Alabama and everyone I know that is successful shoots like you are now. Good luck this season.
people are shooting for the wrong area of the deer! a smaller shot placement area,,trad is not rifle,,, you should be shooting diagonal from thre shoulder and not even trying for a heart shot with a trad bow..... i put on a video....please watch it so your more successful .... title...TRAD Arrow Placement Best Odds For Success! people are teaching wrong! i was a hunting guide for several years ..
@@unknown-archer yes. Quartering away is ideal. Tough to show that with a 2D target bale though.
It’s amazing how my groups tighten up from 17 yards and in. One step back and everything changes. Not sure if it’s due to my declining eyesight as I get older because I then start shooting at “shapes” rather than bearing down on a “spot”. Whatever the reason, my ethical hunting distances need to be limited to inside 15 yards
The exception on long shots for me would be if the animal already has an arrow in it. In which case, I'm emptying my quiver at it.
Great video! That bow is darn quiet, btw.
Target archery is, seeing how far you can shoot and still hit the mark. Hunting archery, is seeing how close you can get, to never miss your mark..
Another great video. I hint only around 12-14 feet.practicing on your kill shots is the most important thing.keep up the videos emrah.👍💯👈👌👊🔥
@@georgehardin8452 thanks. I appreciate it
Well it's the crux of what we do ain't it? I personally practice out to 30.. Will never loose an arrow on a deer at that distance. I go to that distance to hone my rough edges..and will probably pass on most at 20 unless the situation is golden. 15-18 is the zone I want. Cold shots are more challenging on a bow that's been recently strung for me..but the brace settles in after about 15 shots..if I leave it strung I find its amazing right away.. I have found that the first bareshaft in the morning after stringing shows a tiny bit weak..this can be alleviate d to an extent with drawing and letting down a dozen times then gently plucking the string a bit..brace is still high by 1\8" but first shot is ALMOST like leaving it strung.!
Nd further on in your video..I totally agree on the close shots sentiment.. Arrow has to fly clean..I usually shoot bareshaft every other arrow if I'm having an off day..sometimes shoot bare for days just beacuse..bare on the 3d course..my daughters also carry a bareshaft..and randomly we pull one from the back quiver and just roll with it..
Now further..
Can I ask by practicing with a bear shaft does that allow you to fine tune your draw length ,anchor point and release? Or is it for another reason?
How much to make me one
Looks solid!!! Just need to get some good solid stumps now lol 😂
That’s 11.7 going that’s not to bad
I know you love summer!😅
Great review, great quiver and great idea on the black sharpie!
I like my Creek Walker quiver. Good hood and good gripper like you said. Never had any issue with it. I use it with Gunshy attachments.
I have two Creekwalk quivers, one on a Super Shrew and one on a two piece Shafer Silvertip longbow. Both are rock solid and work great
Good luck with it! I've had issues with the 2 I have. In order to keep my feathers from hitting my limb when I shoot, I had to adjust the angle it goes into the hood. In doing so, there's clearance issues with the section that bends away from the hand. I've also had 2 different gripper brackets break while just shooting. Nothing but Great Northern for me from now on.
@@chattahoocheeoutdoorsman4865 interesting. I’ll be curious to put mine through its paces
up side down small to big like your hand but might look funny a upp side down quiver
sweating good for the soul..hehe
Is this part of ups logistics solutions?
Take all that stuff from your stick. The bow quiver slows it Get a HOWARD HILL/dON BROWN style back quiver. Anchor, stick your finger in the corner of your mouth. OH buddy stop over thinkin' and shoot the thing!!!!
Lol ingenious! My wife needs a new pantry step stool now .
I am a compound shooter and just switched back to aluminum arrows after shooting micro-diameter carbon arrows. I can get about 2.5 dozen aluminum cut to length with the inserts and nocks installed and shipped to my home for the same price as a dozen of the micro-diameter carbon. Doing some tuning now before the Wisconsin archery season starts. Good luck with your shooting.
I believe this is the head I'll be running
