    For people not getting the Cryptomatte in After Effects: if you want this to work you must disable "use nodes" in the composite tab in blender.
    Thanks for the tutorial, man. Love the channel.

    for some reason assets that have nothing to do with each other, the cryptomattes groups them together.
    Thye are not parented, not the same material, and not the same object data either. IDK

    Is it possible to put the glass into a collection and export just that collection as a mask?

    THX! this really looks so usefull, i have a doubt, can cryptomatte take vertex groups for the selection of the passes?? or with material assigned to vertex groups?

    Cycles cryptomattes have a single pixel transparency at edges in After Effects. Not the case with Vray.
    About to abandon using blender on a project because of this.

    Difference between OpenEXR and OpenEXR Multilayer file format?

    • @jalpranjal
      @jalpranjal  Před 3 lety +1

      OpenEXR will not give you the channels you need for Crytpomatte to work.

      @jalpranjal  Před 3 lety +1

      It's quite straightforward. There's is a fusion documentation here too github.com/Psyop/Cryptomatte

    Is there a way to select an object that is hidden behind another one? I have a project where there is a window in front of the object that I want to select in my cryptomatte, but I can only see the silhouette of the window

    • @jalpranjal
      @jalpranjal  Před 2 lety

      I guess no. Cryptomatte is camera based.

  • @ellopropello
    @ellopropello Před 3 lety

    is there anything else to take into account? my cryptomatte barely contains those valuable informations. just fragments and not the complete objects. blender2.92, AE18.0.1

    • @jalpranjal
      @jalpranjal  Před 3 lety

      Make sure you select " asset" "object " and "material" under layers settings in Blender.

    BTW DWAA codec should take up least space - also how do we get the beauty pass with .exr not just object passes

    • @AndyEngelkemier
      @AndyEngelkemier Před 2 lety +1

      If you add EXtractoR you can choose the layer for your RenderLayer.Combined (if your render layer is named RenderLayer. My test was using eevee, and then I had to also add an exposure effect and change the gamma to 2.20 to look the same, which kind of makes sense since Adobe will assume exr is linear.
      But I was able to get the beauty pass that way, and still have the cryptomatte working in the same single Multilayer EXR file. I see quite a few other people rendering two files though, maybe they know something I don't? Or maybe I know something they don't?

    • @robob3ar
      @robob3ar Před 2 lety

      @@AndyEngelkemier thx, figured it out eventually.. pretty cool, although I have to find out why it was so slow to operate

    • @robob3ar
      @robob3ar Před 2 lety

      @@AndyEngelkemier i guess they render two files bcs of gamma, I did that with still renders, btw dwaa is lightest but problematic for some apps (ae and ps)..

    • @AndyEngelkemier
      @AndyEngelkemier Před 2 lety

      @@robob3ar dwaa worked fine in my test for PS and AE 2022, but the compression was not acceptable. Pxr24 took my files from 51MB to 20MB and was acceptable so long as my exposure was close. If I take it too far then the differences showed up.
      And to solve for gamma, it's easy. Just add an exposure effect (same for AE and PS) and change gamma to 2.2
      Now, if I could think of a way to make the adjustments in AE more efficiently. Right now I'm showing Matted Colors, then adding an adjustment layer below that using the matted colors as a luma matte. But I have to do that for each material/object that I need a different adjustment for. I'd love to somehow do that all within one layer. I wish you could create an adjustment and assign it to a cryptomatte set instead. This is where a nodes workflow really shines.

  • @BernhardRieder1

    Does the cryptomatte also work for objects behind the glass?

    • @FlyingBanana78
      @FlyingBanana78 Před rokem

      However you set your cryptomatte settings in blender during export then yes. You can select every individual object in blender to be a cryptomatte, render and export the image sequence to your compositor of choice. But sure you know this already being 5 months ago.
