- Power Steering Return Hose Leak Repair on 2005 Chevy Impala 3.4L.
UPDATE: The JB Weld only held for a day. We had to end up replacing the line. $98 at O'reilly Auto Parts. Also had trouble with the replacement. Finally decided to have a mechanic do it. They can get it up on a lift so that they can get the suspension out of the way on the passenger side to replace the new line without bending it. You can do this at home, but it's a pain. It took them a little over 1 hour and cost us $110 for labor and $85 for the tow. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
After watching this, It helped me find out that I had the same leak. You were on the right track. I ended up using JB Weld's Steelstik putty as a temporary fix while waiting for the part. It is still working two weeks later.
Just an update. the Steelstik repair is still holding more than a year later. Still haven't needed to replace the part.
That's it am doing it
@@noydb-1 TY for that update!
I think regular jb weld might have worked if they had done a better job of applying it.. they probably didn't prep the surface at all, and they said they didn't wait for it to cure.
@@noydb-1 update?
@@aldenutzman9699 It actually lasted several months before I wrecked the car and totaled it. Wipe down the area with a good degreaser or brake cleaner so the Steelstik will stick.
Same exact leak location on mine! I tried JB weld. No luck. I tried hose with clamps - worked ok for a while; band-aid I guess you could say. I did not try what you guys did. I'm going to replace with a new part soon to make sure it's good to go. Thanks for this...
Thank you sir, thats the "cooler" portion of the return line. I couldnt figure out how this thing was routed on my 04 Venture, (same engine) and now I see it sits ontop of the frame.
I couldn't find the leak on my 2007 impala, even with the dye. But after watching this video, I found it right away. You guys are funny. You made this video funny and very likable.
The shovel part had me 😂😂
Rubber tubing yes. JB Weld (no). There’s to much pressure in the lines to hold that for the long term.
You guyz are very entertaining and imformative, somewhat ,lol, keep up the good work!!!
These guys are HILARIOUS LOL LMAO, I enjoyed they bit of this video!!!!
Thank you for your knowledge.
It’s the cooler line!! Just fish it out and fish it back in!! Won’t jb weld!! Don’t replace with rubber Jose!! It has to be aluminum!! So that it cools faster!!
I have a 2000 Impala and have the exact same problem. My dad cut the line and had his friend fix the hole (very tiny slit from rubbing against muffler). He attached it using rubber and two days later I'm hearing it again. I'm totally upset.
Yeah man I tried this and its definitely a no go. I even tried cutting where the holes were. Then connecting a rubber hose with screw clamps and that was temporary as well. Short cuts dont work. Had to replace the line because there's too much pressure.
Agree. Ran into the same thing. That is the reason for the notes in the description. I left the video up to help people possibly locate their lines and/or find the leak.
That's me right now lol. Tightening my gear clamps every morning until I have the time to replace the line.
Jajaja great.!!! J B # 1👍
Jb weld stick worked for me same line same spot yal just did not do it right
Should I approach the pump on the 3.8L from underneath like this or the top since the 3.8L pump is behind the engine and down
I did
Maybe you shouldn’t have smoked that joint before u made this video. Great temporary fix 😂
I feel more stupid for watching this.
What is that hose called exactly? Have the same leak on that hose.
Power steering cooler line
Totally useless fix , but hey you just gained a fan ,lol.
did it work?
RoadTripMan4U check the update in the video details. It only held for a day.
@@MichaelHamlin76 HELP!!! 1 HOUR before I get kicked out of the junkyard... See here: czcams.com/video/50ajEdtC0oE/video.html any ideas of where that cable goes and how to disconnect it, or is it safe to cut it and weld or solder it on my own Impala?
Jerry rig it surprised didn't try duck tape
Did you ever have any leak problems later down the line?
Meechy1 Rams For Life yeah, read the Update in the video description. It didn't last too long.
That same hack saw, cut the line in half and use a compression fitting coupling and done.
Compression blew off lol i thought that to
Get in the belly..lmao
$20 worth of quick fix crap to fix a $16 line on Amazon
