- King Charles shared one of his favorite breakfast egg dishes.
King Charles is a huge fan of eggs and cheese. No wonder this is one of his favorite dishes. It's delicious with warm crusty bread for breakfast, brunch or even dinner and simple to make too.

Cheesy Baked Eggs
A handful (4 oz) of fresh spinach wilted in a little olive oil
1 tomato (heirlooms are good) cut into bite size pieces
2 oz soft cheese (I use Cornish Brie, but any soft cheese will work)
1 egg
1/4 cup heavy cream
2 oz grated hard cheese (I like a mix of red Leicester and Montgomery cheddar, but any hard cheese will work)
2 fresh basil leaves (torn)
2 slices Prosciutto (torn) or chopped cooked bacon
Method
Butter a small ovenproof dish and line with wilted spinach, making a small well in the centre. Place the tomato) on top of the spinach.
Arrange the soft cheese around the dish amongst the tomatoes. Add the torn basil leaves and the optional Prosciutto. Season with salt and pepper.
Crack the egg into the centre of the spinach.
Pour the heavy cream over the egg - avoid breaking the yolk. Sprinkle with grated hard cheese.
Place in a hot oven (180C) for 8-10 minutes. Let it stand for a few minutes before eating.

I used to be a cheesemonger, so just as a little tip, if you can't find Montgomery Cheddar, you can use a Cheddar called Tickler by the Castello Cheese Company. It is a fantastic substitute and it too has the little salt crystals as the Montgomery Cheddar does.
Black Amsterdam, or overyearly Gouda has too
Good to know! I’m going to try and find Montgomery, but I know for sure that my local market has Tickler.
Eeeexcellent -Mr Burns
Aren’t those crystals calcium lactate?
You were a cheesemonger, yet you call them "salt crystals"?
Love his face when he mentions French bree for the English royalty :)
That looks wonderful . Not only nice for coronation but for Easter brunch too . Thank you Chef Darren
Absolutely 💯. We need to make this😃
Lies again? Pizza Hut Baked Rice
I made this yesterday morning for my wife and I. Absolutely delicious! Served it with fresh, homemade bread, and champagne. Fabulous recipe, many thanks indeed for sharing!
I love this comment. I think it's the inclusion of the word 'champagne' in a sentence that follows one which contains the word 'morning' 😄. She's a lucky lady, I wonder what you were celebrating with such a special breakfast?
It was her birthday, but Ground Hog’s day is an equally valid reason to celebrate in such a manner. Thank you for your kind comment!
@@bradleystarcevich5946 😄👍 I concur! Here's to small indulgences and continued good health-- tomorrow is promised to nobody. 🍾🥂
You have a very lucky and clearly loved wife 🤗
@@suerose7479 Thank you for your reply! She’s a wonderful lady. I highly recommend this recipe.
This looks absolutely lovely. I would make it with 2 eggs, same size dish. So hungry for delicious foods and this looked wonderful.
This dish lks,,,.~
I was thinking the same thing!
Yep, two eggs in a scrambled trim would fit proper ... ;-)
I've been making that for years. I feel so royal now! lol! I just put the spinach in raw and it cooks ok. Because I don't have King Charles's budget, I use bacon instead of prosciutto, although I would much prefer it, and just ordinary extra sharp cheddar. I don't put tomatoes in but I might try it. It's a wonderful breakfast but it also makes a nice light supper, too, with a few pieces of garlic bread and maybe some fruit salad.
I’m thinking smoked salmon would work well instead of the ham for an indulgent brunch treat.
@@LaurenRex That does sound good! I would just lay it over the top at the end. Smoked salmon doesn't need to cook, just warm up.
I love this with a little nutmeg in my sautéed spinach. The finished dish is wonderful with crusty white or sourdough bread and a fruit salad to cut the richness (and a chilled glass of Cremant d’Alsace!!!). Thank you, Chef!!!
That does sound perfect !
I’m so proud grateful for you chef, your recipes are a piece of history, please continue to share fine authentic royal dinings we love them ❤
Yesss! I got the book today! Thank you so much for the recipes.
I’m so glad you made those! I have the recipe but I wasn’t so confident about making it. Thank you so much!!! 🎉
Love all the stories that go with all the recipes
You are like a royal scribe
You don’t know but you are documenting history
You are spreading knowledge
Thankyiu
Wow, that is a gorgeous and rich recipe! What’s not to love??! 🥚 You speak very lovingly of your time with TRF, and I can’t wait to hear more stories! Red Leicester is one of the undisputed Kings of cheese in the world!!!
Glad to see you back!! I always look forward to watching these videos. I’m going to make this!
This looks absolutely delicious. Thank you for this easy to make recipe. ❤️
Those are delicious! I have been making it weekly for a month now. Absolutely fabulous!
Looks so good, my mouth is watering . I'm have to try it!
Eggs and cheese!!! Yes, please!
I love these Royal recipes!
New subscriber! Looks delicious!
I really, really enjoyed this and cannot wait to make it & get one of your books!
Absolutely wonderful dish, Chef! Those who say the British don't know good food are sorely mistaken! It looks beautiful!
Don't be so sure.... These are originally Mediterranean dishes
They surely don't. Whatever good they have been borrowed from other cultures and made some changes. Whatever is blind english dish is really blind and very simple and not the most good one.
@@stellaeliza5317 Possibly, but is an excellent dish none the less! Oh and cottage pie! Fantastic!
@@arusgevorgyan7238 Lol well that is like your opinion bro, don't like it, don't watch it!🤣🤣
@@bigboi980 yes it tastes good but they often use the most basic and bland ingredients. This is literally cheese, eggs and a bacon equivalent. Lol. I would eat it definitely but it isn't anything exotic. Very British. Some of the other recipes have been baked potatoes, lol. But that's not on the chef, I'm sure it's all cooked perfectly. That's literally what the royal family preferred.
I think this would be the perfect recipe to surprise my mum and sister for breakfast. 🍽️☕ They love cheeses....and all the vegetables - especially tomatoes! Yum!!
Thank you, chef! ❤️
Absolutely lovely, can’t wait to try this, Long Live the King!
100% making this for my coronation day breakfast!
Thank you for sharing!
Definitely will try!
Something new with egs, looks delicious and I like all ingredients.
I have both of your books and now I can't wait to try this recipe as well
You are so fun!!
Thank You For Showing Up & Being You 🇺🇸👑🥚🥖🥐🥧
Dear Chef McGrady,
Thank you for including the recipe.
nice to see you back, just ordered both books, been wanting them for over a year now. i hope you keep making videos leading up to the coronation in 1 1/2 months and get lots more views, you deserve it! you can also end with "fit for a King"
Another great video! I love your stories!
Wow, I just finished a VERY VERY LONG search for an affordable copy of "Eating Royally" and **finally** found one...supposedly autographed! That's great news about your books coming back into print! Good Show, Chef! I'll have to wing it not having easy access to British cheeses. King Charles III is right, cheese is DELICIOUS!
The dairy products in the UK are divine. Whenever I’m in London, I love to go to the Harrods Food Halls, select a few different cheeses, and something like a salmon mousse or a duck pâté, some savory crackers, and have a little “picnic” in my hotel room. The cheese in the UK is the best.
This recipe looks incredible! I can't wait to try it!!
ALL FOOD IS ORGANIC you absolute twatwaffle.
Your impression of HRH Prince Philip was spot on!! Wonderful recipe!
This looks incredible. I can't wait to make it, especially with a side of toast!

This recipe looks really good. Love from France
Your Impressions are fantastic Darren. They illuminate the narration well. Kind of like when you have read aloud from story books for your girls when they were young. Brought the characters alive for them, didn't it? Bet they loved it. Don't stop. Cheers, Chuck in Florida.
I love how you describe the taste and smell of food as "absolutely gorgeous!!"

Wow that is so rich. A breakfast like that around 10 am and there would be no need for anything but a snack for dinner❤
Darling I would've thought it would've been one of the first thins you noticed about him.. The Prince of Wales doesn't eat lunch
Im definitely trying this recipe tonight! It definitely looks yummy 🤤
Love having my signed copy of Eating Royally. I’ve made the Soda bread and was intrigued that it was so similar to my grandmas biscuit recipe (that’s American biscuits). I’ve been tentatively planning a dinner party using this book and Julia Child’s books.
Great dish!
This looks Simply Yummy for my Tummy 😊
Wonderful dish,
Thanks
I made this today after church for brunch, and I have to report, it is SO GOOD! I served it with a hot, crusty baguette, and both my husband & I thought it was a winner!! This one is definitely going into the recipe file for another time. Thanks so much. King Charles sure has good taste!!
