You people that think you have to have a tube amp, then go buy one.
There are a lot of people using solid state modelers these days, including every member of Def Leppard.
But If you want to lug around heavy amps and have to change tubes, go for it.
Times are changing for people that don’t want to spend lots of money on valve amps and maintain them.
Someone that knows how to EQ and has a great guitar, you can achieve a fantastic sound. My good friend plays with a major country artist and uses a Helix and says he will never go back to valve amps.

I've played tube amps (marshalls) all my life. They are great sound amp but a pain in the ass to haul around and unpredictable and costly with repairs. They stay at home now and I bring them out every so often if I feel a need for warm tubes. I just purchased this Boss Artist and couldn't be happier. There are endless tones with this thing if you know what you are doing. I'm 56 and a Boomer. We aren't all against change :)

I totally agree. I had enough of tube amps. Yes, there are some great ones and I still have a Marshall combo, but I had about every tube amp disaster you can imagine and even had a Marshall stack back in the 80s that I spent more replacing tubes on than I did buying it. And that's NOT including all the expensive repairs. Solid state is where it needs to be and I've known professionals who were using them even way back in the 80s. They've only gotten better. I think the Katana is better than the old Randall RG 75 and 80, which I used to consider the best solid state tube combos ever. I'm getting a Katana soon. Can't wait. They rock.

Nice job on the demo! I have the Katana MkII, 1-12, 100 watt amp and I think it is a great amp for only $359. I have over 35 years of professional playing experience and have owned dozens of tube amps and few solid state amps. None of the solid state amps sound as good as tube amps, but they weigh far less, run cooler, require little maintenance and are less costly. All very appealing to me after literally ruining my back and knees carrying heavy tube amps and music gear for nearly 50 years!

I did have the mkl artist and liked it , but it was lacking punch. The mkll addressed that and i like it much more. Its great for home. rehearsals or gigs. I got an artist mkii 100 watts and I exclusively use the katana librarian for making tones on my phone. The mkii and the 3 have the same speaker but the 3 doesn't support the sneaky amps! You get a lot less control out of your 3 than your 2 which is why i think the new 3 is 50 bucks cheaper. But hey go with what feels right. And if you want bluetooth for your mkii get an airstep pedal and don't spend money on the 3's almost same priced dongle

I’ve owned/played a slew of tube amps over the decades, and currently own a Marshall DSL40c, a 200 watt Marshall Major, and a Fender Princeton Reverb II. Along with an entire pedalboard. The Katana? I have the 50 MkII, and it comes close enough to what I get from those other amps - AND has all the built-in effects - that I no longer need to carry any of those amps or effects. Is it perfect? No. Is it close enough for jazz? Oh yeah.

Sounds good to me. I have an Ac30 head and Marshall VM tube amps and a mk1 katana 50. The kat50 can't compete with the others in many circumstances mainly due to small cabinet and sound quality. But the software plays a wonderful part taking it to another level!! In some circumstances I prefer the katana 50, go figure. The Katana artist seems to make the gap closer to tube amps. So closer that I guess I'll get one sooner than later. Katana artist plus midi board. Seems to be an amp for life. Too bad it doesn't weight 11kg like the 50 which is amazing to carry around and do its job which for me is a very important factor (portability).

    • @cnrbsmth

Ive always found SS amps to have a quicker response time, which is more comfortable and natural for intricate music. Try playing Jazz through a true tweed amp, it feels horrible, even if it sounds nice.
I know a few Bass players that echo this sentiment, you feel like the note is more immediate through a SS amp. It often just doesnt sound as rich as a valve amp.
