That funeral... is the first time i cried over a piece of media in my life. As someone how lost my father figure at a young age, that one sill hurts, even just listen to people tall about it. This is such a beautiful story and it have a very special place in my heart. Can't wait to see your journey with it!

But it makes us all better people by the end of the day, and IMO that's the point of life, to be better as people. That's why I love watching people read stories I love, it's a small reminder of the impact this work have on me and how it changed me as a person.
There isn't a better example of a well done story than Full Metal Alchemist. The characterization of each person in the story. The action is well placed and paced. The narrative present and drives the plot and characters. I absolutely love that you're enjoying it

this was the first anime i ever watched!! a while back i decided to read the manga and it still holds up so well and will always have a special place in my heart. i consider it to be one of the greatest stories i’ve ever watched/read (besides one piece of course lol)

I'm jealous!🤣I briefly recall starting the anime years ago after I watched Deathnote, but I remember being scared that something would happen to Alphonse with all of the alchemy stuff, and gave up! lol. Now that I am reading the great, yet tragic One Piece, I feel that I can handle anything! lol (Although that would still destroy me if that happened! 😭🤣)
There's a reason FMA got not one, but two anime adaptions, it's well loved (though it was never one of "the big three"). So excited to see where this journey goes, it's a very intentional and well plotted story, can't wait to see you put the pieces together!

FMA is what made me love anime/manga. I (sadly) avoided One Piece until Merphy, Daniel, and you started to dive into it. I'm in the middle of Thriller Bark right now and am can easily see this joining the ranks alongside FMA as one of my favorite stories ever.

The way I love FMA is unreal 🖤 Literally Al & Ed have my heart their story is so tragic and beautiful & their bond is unmatched 🔆 All the characters are great but Al is just the sweetest person ever like boy really has it rough and yet somehow he's one of the kindest people . Scar is also one of my favourites he was a complex & interesting character .

When it comes to planning out a narrative FMA is one of the best in my opinion, the author Hiromi Arakawa knew exactly where she was going from page 1 and it shows. You can point to any arc in the story and say exactly why it's there & the purpose it had to the overall plot, like here in the beginning with the moral pitfalls of religion in Lyor immediately going into the pitfalls of science with Shou Tucker. Science V. Religion and/or Faith V. Logic continues to be a main theme throughout the story even she layers on the mystery & character development as it goes on. You're definitely in good hands with this one! Also, Roy Mustang is one of my Top 5 manga characters of all time. "It's a terrible day for rain" is one of the few anime scenes I've legit cried over & Mustang continues to be the absolute best for the rest of the story lol

One thing to keep in mind is that the totality of FMA is very concise and dense. The entire anime has 64 episodes, by comparison episode 64 of one piece is barely the start to the Whiskey peak arc.
I love FMA as much as I love One Piece! It's a very tightly written story full of wonderful characters with clear motivations and just full of emotion. I love this story so much, and like One Piece come back to it many times over. The anime Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood is a great adaptation. I wouldn't bother with the other anime adaptation, though, IMO.
I love Fullmetal Alchemist. It a really good series. It's on that level of One Piece when it comes to great well written characters such as Edward, Alphonse, Winry, Mustang, Hawkeye, Scar and Homunculi etc. The storytelling and world building of the show is on point. I like that the world is morally grey. Yeah Ed and Al backstory on what happened to them and the loss of their mother is sad. But what Shou Tucker did to his daughter and wife was very disturbing and even sadder in the anime episode 7 Fullmetal Alchemist or episode 4 in Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood if you want to see it. Hughes getting killed was a sad one. His character was so underrated. Hughes relationship with Ed and Al remind me of Luffy and Shanks. If you're interested in the Hughes passing episode is episode 25 of Fullmetal Alchemist and Brotherhood episode 10. Scar is a complex character but he's my favorite in the show. But anyway great review Amber. Tucker is by most of the anime/manga community universally hate the man. He is one man that everyone hates as a whole. He's one of the 1st character's to do really do something like this in main stream in manga. Hell...it was my 1st experience on the series with the anime. 😭 Also I can understand the One Piece comarisons. Both have a ton of depth and strong characters that bounce off each other so well. I had gotten into both around the same time since they were both hitting something I didn't know I needed in my life. I would honestly love to see Luffy and Ed meet and just their groups meeting.
Good to know, because that man was TERRIBLE! 😭That was definitely a daunting and disturbing thing to see/read! I tried to make it make sense by leaning on the fact that it added depth of Ed and Al's mission - but that was still the worst! And I completely agree with your One Piece comments (and Ed and Luffy meeting would be THE BEST!)!
There are few manga I'd recommend on story alone, and Full Metal Alchemist is one of them. If you want something with a little more edge... A little darker...Go read Made in Abyss.
I am One Piece fanatic and while there are parts of OP that definitely hit harder than FMA, FMA has been more consistently good for me. OP still has to hit the ending well, which FMA did quite well for me at least. For that reason alone I place it higher than OP atm I would suggest that you watch funeral episode in 2003 anime series (I believe episode 25) There are some things that I would love to talk about it here, like the concept of God in it, but I shall save that discussion for when you've read it all The characters in it are amazing though. Even side characters have enough to them that they can be a main character of their own manga
