It's really cool how Garnet unfused, and Steven cries because babies lack object permanence. As a result, Garnet never unfuses again for fear of upsetting Steven. the thought that went into the creation of this show is so amazing, now that I'm rewatching it.
This episode explains why Garnet took almost 14 years to tell Steven she was a fusion. That is because the first time Steven technically met Sapphire and Ruby resulted in him crying as he wanted to see Garnet. So she took her time to prepare Steven for the revelation.
Rose had to die for Steven to live because Rose literally IS her gem. In order for Steven to exist, he needed her gem (her part of the baby making process), and her gem can't be in two people at once. Thus she gave up her form to give Steven his.

I think andy represents that one family member a lot of people have, that have very kinda sketchy views but theyre nice to an extent, so your usually okay with each other at holidays. Hes obviously got a bleeding heart for family, so he is well intentioned, if rough around the edges.
Honestly it might be that he was just brought up with those views and Steven and the gems are lucky enough that he was open enough to be educated bc that’s not always the case

Slight spoilers. . . . My theory is that Rose creates a uterus out of necessity. We see gems can build inside their body the things they want to with Amethyst's x-ray of her having only a stomach/ digestive system. Then incubated Greg's DNA (we see by Steven's powers in Watermelon Stevens and Pumpkin and mention of past soldiers that Rose could give life to things) inside her until it was big enough to fuse with, 9 months or so. Didn't even need to give birth. Probably some pink flashes and just fused with the baby / organic half of Steven.
Ooooh baby we're about to get INTO it now! I love Greg and I think he's a very compassionate and loving dad, but it's sprinkled in gradually how he's kind of negligent in some areas too. Even in season one, I remember being like "how does this kid not know what school is, Greg?? Hello???" But it's interesting how he never once mentioned to Steven that he has other human family members out there who have never met him. It's a little messed up, even though I know Greg has his reasons and loves his son. Sidenote I can't listen to "I could never be ready" without getting all choked up, even though I've seen it like fifty times now 🥹
MILD SPOILERS: Rewatching I realize how much the show revolves around 'change' and its crazy how much stuff forshadows the same feelings steven starts to go through in future. "Why cant everything stay the same?"
I love episodes 7 and 8 bc the way Steven feels like a total outsider to this group with strange ways of behaving and communicating- that's exactly how Uncle Andy feels in the next episode with the Gems. Idk it just really goes to show you stuff lol
The discussion in passing about Lion just reminds me that this is a world with a lot more background weirdness that just doesn't get remarked upon. I mean, we saw back in "Buddy's Book" that ordinary people are (or at least can be) aware of the ancient Gem ruins and magical stuff, and that there are major changes to the map (like the giant hole in Siberia with some gem location in it) - but it's only people like Ronaldo who notice or care about it, and they're mostly getting the meanings of things all wrong. Also, before seeing "Gem Harvest", my going theory was that Greg was descended from immigrant Georg Janivars, who'd gotten his name changed to "George Universe" at Ellis Island.

Just in case. I didn't realize until now that Andy practically mirrors what Steven is going through in Steven Universe Future. Andy tried so hard to keep things how it used to be, but everyone ended up moving away and Steven is also trying so hard keep things the way that were, but everyone seems to have changed. The show has a constant running theme of "Change" and they do a great job at making it feel natural and not being repetitive.
