    Thank you for the review. It's great to have a channel that is dedicated to ChromeOS. I've owned a C302a for a couple of months. I'm really happy with it. Amazing hardware, especially for the price point. It can compete with a lot of more expensive laptops.
    Obviously the pixelbook is the better device. Google would have messed it up if it wasn't. And the best device always has a certain appeal. I just don't think that the pixelbook can be that much better that it justifies the extra price. The C302a is just that good. Hope I'll see a pixelbook in real life soon though.

      That’s true that the ASUS C302 Flip Chromebook beats the Google Pixelbook in terms of price; however, if an average college student have a bigger budget than a poor college student with a poor budget then the average college student might prefer the Google Pixelbook over the ASUS c302 Flip Chromebook.

    As someone who is just jumping into the chromebook world, and after much research, I've decided on the Asus. Even though the pixelbook is black Friday week priced at $699. Waiting for black friday to arrive and anticipate a reduction on the Asus from $475. I can afford a pixelbook, but for my needs, web surfing, watching videos, I think it's overkill.

    Another great video! Much like Chromebooks can do 90% of what other devices can do much cheaper, the Asus has about 90% of the benefits of the Pixelbook at less than half the price.

    • @randyspears9827

      That was where I ended up. I got my Asus for $400 on a one day sale on Amazon. Even when the Pixelbook came down to $700, I couldn't justify the price, especially for my primary use case -- which is writing. Don't get me wrong, when the Pixelbook hit $700, I was truly tempted, but my wife would have hit me had I spent $700 on a Chromebook -- even if it is the best one available.

      I’d say it does everything, unless you need and use the Wacom stylus in which case, there are still better value options than the Pixelbook.
      It’s just too much of an indulgence.

  • @bwglawPhoenix
    @bwglawPhoenix Před 6 lety +6

    I've had the C302 since last spring, and even though I'm tempted by the Pixelbook, I'm sticking with the Flip for now because it's a great secondary device. I do most of my work from a Windows desktop in the office (I'm stuck with Windows until there's something truly comparable to Adobe Audition and Premiere Pro on Chrome OS - when there is, I'll be off Windows immediately). As a secondary device, the C302 is awesome. Light, compact, excellent battery life, great keyboard. It does exactly what I need it to - email, Sheets, Wordpress, etc - very, very well. I also have a Pixel C, so I'm don't really care much about the convertible aspect of either the Flip or the PB. In other words, the Flip is a great laptop - which is what I care most about. For the price to performance/feature ratio, I'm very satisfied with the Flip.

    • @randyspears9827
      @randyspears9827 Před 5 lety

      I'm with you. I have a C302, but I sort of flip (no pun intended) the equation as it is my primary device. I still have to have a PC (or a Mac) for Photoshop and video editing. I can't justify spending a grand on Pixelbook and then having to shell out another grand on a decent PC (or Mac) to do my other essential tasks

  • @Zodiacman16

    I know I'm a bit late on this, but it's worth mentioning the exclusivity you get from a product made by Google, like the Pixelbook (or any Pixel product for that matter). You get early access to new things that Google pushes out. For example, Google Assistant was exclusive to the Pixelbook for a while, and early in 2018 we saw Google provide early access to Fuchsia for Pixelbook owners.

    Thanks for your review. I, too, have a Pixelbook and love it. I don't feel any need to justify it any more than I would if I bought an iPhone X at about the same price. The Pixelbook is a nice device and my daughter loves her "new" Samsung Plus that she got as a hand-me-down.

    I really like the pixelbook, but it's price just puts it into a very difficult to justify position. I just ordered a C302 because I could get a system that was much better than any equivalent priced windows device, but once you get up to the price of the pixelbook, there are windows devices that are just as well built. Chrome is great, but if you can get a windows device that isn't inferior in any other way, why would you not go that way?

    I guess if you're a diehard ChromeOS fan the Pixelbook is the obvious choice. It's just not the smarter choice. You're still limited to what ChromeOS can do even if you drop $1K on one. For me the Asus C302 is the best Chromebook you can buy. If you need something more powerful than the C302 you really need a mac/windows laptop.

I did end up thinking 1000 was a lot for a Chromebook. Plus with the ASUS you can add a micro SD card so I actually have more storage than the pixelbook. While I agree with you Matthew that $1000 is a lot for a laptop that just does chrome, word and a few other apps, a lot of people are buying Macbooks for $1250+ and use it only for browsing and watching videos. So there is definitely a market for ultra thin notebooks that are in the $1000 range.
      If only the speakers were better, this would in my opinion be better than the 12 inch Macbook.

    Love the show. Very fair and honest reviews. However, as a guy who has owned multiple Chromebooks and Chromeboxes over the years running the entire spectrum of price points (and the only OS I use anymore) I don't really see much point in comparing higher mid range Chromebooks to the Pixel. The Pixel is for all points and purposes still to this day the only "high end" Chromebook there is. Fortunately these days there's a few choices for the higher mid range market....but wouldn't it make more sense to compare the $450-$600 range to each other as apposed to a Pixel? It would be more of an apples to apples review and comparison instead of everything they don't have compared to a Pixel.... which pointing stuff out that isn't "quite as good as the Pixelbook" is kind of overly and unnecessarily obvious. Just a thought.

      They've done a comparison with the Pro and c302. I suppose this is good for people trying to decide if double the price is worth it for their use case. The Pixelbook is an attractive device (minus the bezels), but it's sooooo $$$

      @jdkgcp Před 6 lety

      I enjoy them. But also the purchasing decision I've made is to not purchase any of them. PB - too expensive, Pro - crap keyboard - C302 - wrong aspect ratio screen. Really were just waiting for a CB Pro with a proper keyboard and a $600-$700USD price point. Which is what the PB should have been priced at.

      Cedric Duke, Jr. I understand the lure of a Google designed, Google made blocky device but that version is wayy too old for today. Plus no Android support ever... you’re much better off buying the latest and greatest...

      Still a great choice at the right price, and with Chromeos that hardware will last for years and years before you feel like maybe you need something faster, if ever at all

    I would love a Pixelbook but Chromebooks will never take off here in Australia with prices the way they are. Here the C302 is AU$900-$1000. From that you can imagine how much a Pixelbook costs!!

    I bought the C302 and was generally happy enough with it, until after 8 months it would not boot. Nothing I could do would turn it on. Spent days watching videos of people with the same problem, trying to get the thing to boot.
    Asus repair process was horrible...... In the end I gave up and threw it out.
    Should have bought the PixelBook :-)

    So, Asus for the win. Better or equal keyboard, equal trackpad (come on, really glass =/= better) better screen in aspect ratio for entertainment and productivity, better speakers, far better value.
    Chromebooks are portals to the cloud based OS, and the machine needs to be able to handle the interface. No sense putting a super car on a 45 mph back road, where a Camry is better suited.
    Just my 2¢

    The debate its simple
    Pixel book 3: Expensive device compared to the asus
    Performance : for the price you are paying sure it's good but half the price you'll get the asus
    So the debate here is if you have the money to buy the Pixelbook go for it but you have the same thing with the Asus half the price
    Asus chromebook flip c302 is considered as the best chromebook out there right now so..
    BTW I just ordered my my asus 😁 cheers.

    • @jojag5
      @jojag5 Před 6 lety

      I get that. Are you going to notice a difference between a $300, $500, and $1000 Chromebook when surfing the internet or watching Netflix? Probably not.
      On the other hand, if you're someone who values design, build quality, and little extras like a back-lit keyboard or stylus then it's worth spending an extra $100-200 imo. I would agree though, that the Pixelbook is way overpriced and overpowered for what is essentially a device designed for basic web browsing, word processing, and video playback.
