  • We worked on this piece for a 3rd party a few months back in secret - we were also given permission to make our own version and release it to all of you. I wanted to take the general audience of consumers, education specialists, and business people and explain why I think more people, schools, and businesses should be going Chrome - and how useful Chromebooks TRULY are. I wanted to dispel a lot of Chromebook myths, and share some new facts with all of you seeking the truth about Chromebooks!

      I agree. Unfortunately many tv comercials use a similar type of background sound (not really music).
      Why am I responding to this topic? It is not to denegrate Mark's otherwise outstanding presentation.
      I wanted to express my regret and utter frustration that I wasn't able to listen to his whole presentation. The high volume level of the background noise beginning 20 sconds into the presntation was to me, very annoying and distracting. It was hard to hear what he was saying. There was no reason for the background sound to compete with or dominate his voice. Regrettably I had to stop watching the video.
      Mark has exceptional speaking skills and seems to be a very good teacher, on screen personality and promoter. It is just my personal opinion that I would have enjoyed listening to his whole presentation if there was minimal or no background sound at all.
      This very good video is an example of what I am tqlking about. czcams.com/video/QxkWS-mkUfE/video.html
      A lower background sound level would at least have made it possible for me to comfortably listen to the whole disertation.

    With the latest high end Pixelbook, is video editing an option? Could you have made this video on a Chrome OS? multiple video tracks, matching audio from those tracks and rendering? Nothing to sophisticated, just the basics with multiple video and audio tracks. The latest high end Pixlebook is compelling.

      Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a solid application for professional video yet. There are a few OK apps through the google play store that will be serviceable, but in my opinion, there isn't anything that can match what I can do with a full version of Premiere Pro - YET. I feel like I complain about this often, especially as a big proponent of the Chromebook world - I am hoping that one day I can do everything I need on my one device instead of using my Chromebooks for everything else, but keeping this big iMac around for editing. Hope this answers well enough!

    I have been using iPad Pro 10.5” with Logitech keyboard and Apple Pencil. I can’t believe that i accomplish more on this device and only very few instances I go to my PC laptop. Now, I am wondering if it is feasible to switch completely to chromebook. At work I use google productivity suites (doc, sheet and slides) but some of the features of MS Office Excel is not there in sheets. But I think there are ways to over come that by subscribing to MS office 365. I am just confused if i should ditch my iPad Pro and go for chromebook

    Just sittin around using Linux and Windows.
    Hears something on the other end of a door.
    Opens door and sees awesome dude explaining Chrome.
    I'm interested and ask...
    "Wow! Chrome sounds so cool!"
    He replies, "Yeah! It is! :)"
    I reply, "So, does it have Steam?"
    "Uhhhhhh..........no?"
    Shuts door. XD
    But seriously, I love the video. Thank you for being so informative while providing humor in a quick-witted, yet no so insulting way(that's a talent right there).
    I have used Chrome. It's not for me, but I installed the Cloudready Chrome OS inside my mother's small, private school to help the teachers with work. They don't have to spend a big budget on new computers, and the service provides great control over all the devices with Chrome OS to be used and save important documents in a safe storage.
    Chrome is great. Everybody should give it a try. However, I'm a major gamer, editor, and programmer though. So, it's function in my daily life is never that important. I just hope Google will continue to support Chrome OS and provide it continuous updates so one day it will be part of my daily life.

      @@Promevo Hey. Thank you for the video. I will add as a side note from one programmer to another to check out Pop OS. Unlike Ubuntu or many other Linux based OS(Galium, Elementary, Mint, Peppermint, etc.), Pop OS was designed for beginning developers. However, it is very supportive toward Intel and/or AMD hardware considering you can get the drivers right on download of the Pop OS.
      After three months, It is very user friendly when using the Chromium Browser. If anybody does not wish to use a Windows OS, then this would be perfect for that individual building or upgrading a PC with an Intel CPU and AMD GPU with larger hardware and wanting to test try Linux and *Gaming* when coming from a Chrome OS without it being too difficult.
      *Gaming on Steam titles only. Lutirs seemed promising, yet after being around it, it still has many flaws. So, no Epic, Origin, or Blizzard titles for now.*

    What about opening PDF files, Emailing docs from google drive, and printer support ?

    • @Promevo
      @Promevo  Před 6 lety +1

      Hey Jim! We actually cover the printer support in this video - you have a few options. You can print through Google's Cloud Print service wirelessly or, you can connect via USB to printers to print as well.
      Emailing docs from Google Drive is really easy. If you just want to share it to others for collaboration, you simply click the share button in the upper right hand corner, give their email address (or if you just want to send a link to more people, click the enable link sharing button) and you're all set. However, if you want to actually export a file, go to the File menu in the document you'd like to export, and click 'download as' - it'll give you options for what kind of file you'd like to create there.
      Drive also has PDF support, so it can open those PDFs no problem. Hope this helps.

      My comment was seemingly a joke when I said "Yes chromebooks are awesome!!!!! " But the point I was trying to make was serious. I mean really, What is the purpose of spending $1,000+ To get a Mac or Windows Pc for doing things like Photoshop, Music production, Live streaming, Video Editing Web browsing etc and then spending another $200 - $400 On a Chromebook When A Chromebook can pretty much only do what you can do In a web browser when you have access to a web browser. So many things like Traveling for example, is made harder with 2 laptops, You need to spend more money for a device that there is no place for them. There is simply no reason to have 2 computers. That is what I Think And my opinion on chromebooks.
      (Ok Admittedly, Maybe I am not the target audience for these things but still though)

    • @Promevo
      @Promevo  Před 6 lety +2

      I understand your point - but I can't imagine anyone needing to lug two devices with them. If I was planning to go out and produce content, I probably wouldn't drag a chromebook AND another laptop - that seems like I'd be creating a problem that doesn't exist simply to have a problem. As someone who professionally produces content all over the country, I have yet to be in your described predicament. I think i've made it clear here before that we are very obviously aware about the Chrome OS's inability to let me create freely, the way a full fledged computer rig would...but that's not the point. These can be fairly productive, while also being designed to easily consume media at a very low cost. I can't legitimately compare a $1000+ machine to a $300 computer. Would you compare a tablet to a Mac? Probably not - but I'd argue that a tablet owner and a Chromebook owner might not be so dissimilar.

    Unless you do heavy duty editing or need a specific apple or windows app this the absolute best and cheapest way to go . We have a windows laptop that is our second choice when doing anything on the web.

    Questions: What is the durability of the Crome books? I have children who it seems have a mission to break stuff. Can a Crome book withstand the stress of being tossed into a backpack with other actual books and plopped on the floor? I’m talking about student life between 2nd - 12th grade. Would I need to buy added protection for it like I would for a tablet (meaning some kind of case?)

    • @Promevo
      @Promevo  Před 5 lety +1

      I would recommend a case to be extra safe - HOWEVER, I highly recommend searching for Education model chromebooks as they're often designed for additional durability for exactly the reasons you've mentioned!

      make them buy it with their own allowance. thats what we did. now their phones last forever. I even saw them cleaning it. lol.

      I don’t give my kids an allowance. There’s no reason to pay them for doing what their supposed to anyway. They only get rewards based on their grades at school. Better effort, better prize.
      In this specific case
      we didn’t buy it. My husband won it at his annual Christmas party. My son uses it to type out book reports and my daughter uses it for her reading programs. Otherwise it’s a nice paperweight. We don’t use it for anything else.

    Everything he said I can confirm is true since I am a full on Chromebook user. *the one that has HP on it* I feel like this chromebook is even invincable to viruses such as everytime I hit a link mine says on the bottom left corner "scanning for viruses"

    • @sploder12
      @sploder12 Před 5 lety

      Too bad that virus protection means nothing as you can't download exe files one a chromebook. If you are a full Chromebook user than you must not use a computer very often

      The 365 services that are online-based should work no problem - similar to using a Chrome browser on any other device. Otherwise, you've got the options of the Google suite of comparable apps. As far as installing the traditional programs, they are not currently available for the Chrome OS.

    Chromebooks cant do shit. honestly I rather spent another few hundred dollars more for a laptop that can actually do things than just web browsing. and that's why the pixelbook is not that great. You're paying $1000 for a device that cant actually do anything worth it's money. And no, tech enthusiast would not use it.

      This. I get cheap chromebooks but why in the fuck would anyone spend that much on hardware that runs an OS that can't even take advantage of it?
      Play store apps are designed for mobile, lightweight and simple. The rest of chrome OS is browser based, so again, light and simple.
      It's retarded
