  • Blow Me Down taken from the movie Popeye made in 1980 starring: Robin Williams and Shelley Duvall. I have all the songs from the movie on my videos, so just look and please subscribe or comment to me.
    Lyrics:
    In the mornin' air
    There's so much to bear
    Blow me down
    It's the wind 'n air
    Tryin' its double dare to
    Blow me down
    Blow me down
    It's no bother but
    I'd rather not
    That's easy to see
    Wherever I go
    I yam what I yam
    That does it for me
    Believe it or not
    It's a lovely day
    It's a perfect day
    Blow me down
    It's a lovely place
Think I'd like to stay but
    Blow me down
    Blow me down
    It's nice and friendly here
    I think I'll spend a year
    Or two maybe three
    I yam what I yam
    Wherever I goes
    I comes from the sea
    Believe it or not
    In the evenin' air
    Lots of people there
    Tryin' to blow me down
But unlike the clothes I wear
    I haven't got a care, so
    Blow me down
    Blow me down
    It's no bother but
    I'd rather not
    That's easy to see
    Wherever I go
    I yam what I yam
    I comes from the sea
    In the mornin' air
    There's so much to bear
    Blow me down
    It's the wind and air
    Tryin' to double dare to
    Blow me down
    Blow me down
    It's no bother but
    I'd rather not
    That's easy to see
    Wherever I go
    I yam what I yam
    That does it for me
    Believe it or not

I'll never understand why people hate on this movie. Granted, it's not Robert Altman's greatest movie, but it's still a pretty good adaption of the comic strips and cartoons.

    • @Sara_MZK
      @Sara_MZK Před 7 lety +21

Altman himself was proud of the film, and defended it until his death saying it was "misunderstood" by critics, and he was absolutely right. When you consider the style of the earliest Popeye cartoons, this movie was a great homage to that. It's not slick, or polished, is not really plot driven, pretty much the anti-thesis of the comic tie-in blockbuster. But therin lies it's charm, and why it's so great. In that context, Robert Altman was the perfect man to direct it, as he didn't take the rough edges off the source material as many other director's working on this type of tie-in would have done.

Huk, huk, huk. Robin did a great Popeye! He didn't exactly do the Poyeye cartoon changes in voice exactly, but this was already explained in advance in the movie press. Robin did it his own way and it worked. Shelley was great as Olive Oil... Ohh, Popeye! Olive, I yam what I yam, I'm Popeye the sailor man!:) RIP Robin. You made many of us happy with your movie roles and sense of humor.

many people rip on this movie, thinking it's an adaptation of the Popeye cartoons. It's an adaptation of "Thimble Theater" comics, which came years before the cartoon.

Though this movie may not have been a box office slam when it came out, time has certainly been good to it when compared to movies made in today’s climate. The artistic faithfulness with which it was made under, and its uncanny originality have easily made it a cult classic. I personally love Williams 1 to 1 rendition of Popeye as I remember those cartoons and he is dead on. It may be lacking today’s attention deficit style action or drama, but in the end, it’s in a class of it’s own.

But once Popeye was introduced, things took off. For all we know, the reason Poopdeck abandoned Popeye was 'cause Popeye refused to eat his spinach, but grew to like it over time, since Segar needed a reason for Popeye's strength.

NinjaGhost: Regarding The Chipmunks, if you're expecting something like the 80's revival version, then you'd might want to change your tune, because the movie is based upon upon the boys' initial meeting with Dave (which originally was in the 60's [though the movie has it set in present times, just to relate The Chipmunks to modern audiences], when the boys were more rowdy...even Simon). Hollywood's even bringing back The Muppets and Fraggle Rock by putting them on the big screen.

Donovan Scott (playing Castor Oyl) does a pratfall, and in getting up, you can hear him grunting but he also giggles, I assume in reaction to the conversation between Popeye (Robin Williams) and Geezil (Richard Libertini) he then scampers up off-screen, pretty much in character as he's been throughout the song. To answer your question, I think the pratfall was planned.

It is with total regret that I read that Robin, (Popeye himself) derides this film. I went with my own, "mudder" to see this in the theater and we thought, (to our simple selves) that this was a great movie.
    We still do =0)
    "Blow me down"
    We forgive ye Robin!

I like the fact that the only town resident to treat Popeye nicely was Wimpy, who later became his friend.

0:54 Narrator: Normally, Sweethaven had a welcoming nature, but this newcomer seemed like a stranger to the townspeople. He had one eye shut tight, he did a lot of weird muttering. His name at birth was unknown, but he called himself Popeye for a nickname.

Popeye tosses a grand piano up to the bridge like it was a tin cup. Then gets bowled over by Ma Brutus when she swings her laundry bag at him. Hahaha. BLOW ME DOWN!!

I wish the UK release of the film wasn't so badly hacked to bits. This bit especially the song is cut as much as possible then they badly cut together bits with just music. ¬_¬

A massive loss to the world, a unique guy, compelling personality, I could not envisage anybody else playing Popeye I agree with MVerdoux comments too. I have watched him since Mork & Mindy days, and he he just seemed to get better & better. He had a lot of personal problems, and I guess it just got too much. I loved the Sweethaven song and stepping on the quay side tax man, In fact I loved all of it!!!!!
