I took one semester of Spanish in high school and I can read and understand a decent amount. Ask me to speak it and I sound like I watched the "one semester of Spanish Spanish love song" video a few times! 😂 I think because I took 3 years of Latin and a lot of Italian in College helps but without using any of it for years I sound like crap in all 3 of them.

And the accents in the Canary Islands and Málaga (part of Spain) sound much more similar to Venezuelan or Cuban than they do to Madrid or Barcelona

Me recordó a cuando mi ex regresaba de Dubai (me lo contó) y le tocó hacer escalas en diferentes lugares, la mayoría tenía que hablar inglés, a él se le complica un poco porque no es que lo domine del todo pero se defiende, y después de hacer escalas en diferentes países ya estaba cansado de hablar inglés y cuando le tocó hacer escala en España se pone a hablar inglés (aún con ese chip) y la chica le responde en español y para él fue tipo "verdad que estoy en España, al fin español"

I am learning spanish from living in florida and the dialect is so different that sometimes i cannot understand Spanish from Spain. Where i am learning, we say "por favor" all the way and it is a deeper draw of the words too. some of the grammar is different as well as pronunciation. 😊 But hopefully one day, all forms of spanish will be easier for me to understand. In the same way i can understand Australian, American and British English.
