“It’s actually gambling philosophy to think like that”. The analogy isn’t out of line. This is one of the most outrageously expensive games I’ve ever played. It has all of the risk, skill and incredible amount of dedication in time and strategy (and money) planning that depletes energy faster than running a five minute mile! It’s NOT sustainable without help and boosters from WG. Thank goodness for that and as to you - a great big thank you for being the voice of reason and advice. You advocacy for players like me is appreciated. Thanks.
J D this is not gambling, to everybody who believes that. It’s retarded that ppl like QB are spreading false rumors. Gambling would be saying “pay an amount of money for a chance to get something exclusive, and nothing else” in this case, each dollar spent on loot boxes gets you double the amount of gold for that money, so you are GAINING. Saying that something is gambling simply because it is chance is bullshit. You wanna see real gambling? Look at the people who have spent tens of thousands of dollars on CS:GO for some exclusive skin, only to get NOTHING in return. THAT IS GAMBLING, THIS IS NOT. YOU GET DOUBLE YOUR MONEYS WORTH FROM THESE LOOT BOXES. If somebody wants the tank, they can easily wait a couple of months for WG to release it in the prem shop, like they did with the IS-3a. If a person feels inclined because they are impatient, it is NOT WGs fault. Gambling is risking something for a chance to gain more. You are not risking money in loot boxes, you are gaining with a smal chance to gain even more. If there was an event that said “buy our product for a chance to win a cash prize”, and some Dumbass goes and buys 400 of that product for the cash prize, it’s not the stores fault for their idiocy. It’s the same concept, it’s those ppl ranting because they spent 300$ and didn’t get the “broken is-3a” they wanted spamming forums. I’m going to buy 25 boxes because I know I’ll be guaranteed double my moneys worth in gold.
SHUT UP U TWO. I spent $20 on this crap and got only 3750 gold out of this, and i wanted the 703 V2. I GAMBLED my money to get a tank that i wanted. Go look in the dictionary. I didn't want gold. If i had known i would have got that, I wouldn't have bought the boxes. Heres the definition "take risky action in the hope of a desired result." I had a desired result of the 703 V2 and i got something I didn't want. THAT'S GAMBLING.

Kylan Chen You have a good point. However, it’s ultimately your goal which depends if you’re gambling. If you’re a normal player and buy loot boxes, you most likely just wanted some gold and premium time, perhaps a tier six premium tank. People like QB exclusively want a single item since they already have everything else in the game, so in their eyes it is gambling because more gold and premium doesn’t have much of an impact. To a regular player, no it wouldn’t be gambling. To a player who has everything, it is gambling because the exclusively want a single item. So QB is right in a certain and you’re also right in a certain way.
@@davopan2012 I can agree with this. I feel like I'm half way between because I started playing in beta and have seen so many changes. I feel like I have more money to spend on this game then your average free to play guy, but, no where near what QB has, so I can see what you mean. I didn't think about this until you said it.
Edit: I feel like I was very lucky to receive the E75 TS and 703 in my first 25 boxes. Later this evening I did purchase another 25 in the hopes of getting 3D styles and other things. I received 3 styles, but, was slightly disappointed in my 2nd results vs my first.

I buy 75 Boxes in EU Account and become all of The Skins and Lowtier Tanks + E75 TS and SU 130 PM.
i got the 75TS and the 703 in 12(out of 25) boxes on EU, QB got extremely unlucky
QB needs to buy another 50 Russian boxes and see if they are as loaded as the first set. if so then it would be clear to all on the NA and EU servers that the Russians just want our money while at the same time rewarding the RU server players very well for their small investment.
Something else interesting that I just noticed: The loot boxes are advertised as 9%-33% off in the shop even though they where introduced at that price. Isn't that illegal? At least in the EU, Australia and Canada? Claiming something is reduced in price for a limited time even though you introduced it at that price. Isn't that the same move that Bethesda pulled last year with the Christmas emote bundle?
I think they get away with it because it's like they are saying you are saving money because you get a few extra boxes, even though you don't have to option to buy the normal amount in the first place
Not sure about what WG has exactly done here. But yes, you are correct that it would be illegal in the EU the way you describe it. One additional note. You are, in the EU, also not allowed to increase the price within the 3 months proceeding your claim to giving a discount.
They can get away with it due to it being a reduced cost bundle situation. Like how raffle tickets might be $2 for a single ticket or 3 for $5. The discount percentage is based on the cost if you were to buy them individually vs in bulk, like a bulk product discount. Am I really a fan of doing this? No really, but it's no where near as bad as single item immediate "discounts" like bethesda was trying to pull

Every year I pop into my Matilda, play some low tier games and gift 3x loot crates to the best player on my team. I remember how much of a grind it was to get a damn Hetzer back in the day, haha.
It feels good to help out the new players.
I got the pack of 11 boxes on my EU account. Got the t5 german, e75ts and the double barrel tanks. Probably very lucky to be honest
Gotta say: the first year, I got the big bundle of each nation to get most all of the decorations at the very beginning, and complete them all by the end of the event. Also, I wanted to have a ton of gold so I could buy the rest of the premium tanks, as it would let me train up all my crews. It worked.
The next year, I took the money I would have spent on loot boxes, and donated it to QBs charity stream, and just watched him play the few tanks I dont have and dont need. It worked better. Highly recommend it. Planning on doing it 12/19 again.

I had 44 boxes and got everything but one skin. Did everyone on the Russian server get everything with only 8 boxes or one person?
I got 2 of Obj 703 and 2 of the E-75s on my 50 boxes on EU. Only 2 skins though. It is completely random.
In 75 boxes I recieved everything I needed! All 6 skins, the 2 new tier 8 tanks, all the low tiers I don't have, gold worth the price I payed for the boxes, 65 days of premium and 5 milion credits! So I'm happy! Oh, just to add I bought them for the gold, and everthing else is a bonus for me.

This year I wasn’t impressed with the tanks in the boxes but the styles are awesome. Ended up getting the tanks anyway even though I just wanted the styles.
You werent too far off when you mentioned about getting better luck on the russian server.
Was on discord a few weeks ago with a friend that helped develop these loot boxes, and he let it slip that the odds are tweaked from server to server, stated that the more the average player spends on a given server, the lower chances of receiving tier 8 prizes, NA might have a relatively low population but they outspend EU and RU by almost 2 to1 per player, while the russian player base spends less than a quarter of what NA does per player. And your results of opening these loot boxes for both servers just kinda add more credence to what was slipped.
The UK Gambling Commission will be *very* interested to hear that the item odds are not fixed, and are changed arbitrarily by Wargamimg. Hopefully this will be a very expensive mistake.

This is NOT gambling actually. Because it is guarantee that you can win in game stuff more than worth your money in regular premium shop values. But truth is brand new tanks only encourage to you buy more lootboxes and this is what WG is aiming. So i'm pretty happy of WG Christmas events so far.
Second thing is new babies are not op or broken so i'm sure that both of them will be sale more than 1-2 times at premium shop in the near future.

They way I look at the boxes is buy them for what they have inside each box is about 1.20 or so USD and to buy 250 gold from the store its a 1.49 so you're still making off better then just buying it. Getting any premiums is just a nice bonus on top of the value.

I think that the loot boxes are great for the player that doesn’t want anything particular but really appreciates the gold. The gold you get is about equal or better if you just bought gold straight up ,and you can also get some premiums. I can totally see how it would be frustrating if you just wanted the skins and t8 prems.

I usually benefit from these WoT box events, since I am not gunning for one thing in particular. What Wargaming is doing in Warships is a lot worse. Even the very best players cannot hope to complete all the directives without spending a great deal of money, and there are NO refunds if for some reason you don't have the time to finish what you started. This is downright abusive. Playing a game should not feel like work.

Gold: + 26750
Premium time: + 63 days
Credits: + 3 900 000
Tier 8 premiums: E75 TS, SU-130 PM and OBJ 703 (I GOT DOUBLE CANNONZ!!!)
Special tier 10 styles: T110e4, Jpz E100, E100, Obj 140
Other tanks: Sherman VC Firefly, Bretagne Panther, am39, PZ 3 K, Sexton 1 (3 times)
That's it. For me it's definitely worth it, but don't spend money you don't have!

they could put vouchers for the tier 8 tanks into the lootboxes at a very high drop rate (25%+) that allow to purchase these vehicles with gold. so you can start to gamble on it but are still guaranteed to buy them at a certain point. or just make them available for gold right away, so the obscene amounts of gold you may get through the boxes is reinvested right away. most of the gold on my account is from last year's christmas event and i would have put it back in the game if the obj and e75 were available for it.

I agree with you that not selling the new tanks regularly in the shop is a very negative thing.
But I personally dont think that these boxes are bad. I bought 75 for 100€ yesterday. I already had Progetto and Su130 before. After opening the 75 boxes I had both new tier 8 tanks and all of the low tier tanks in my garage. I also got all Tank skins plus one Progetto duplicate (11k gold), about 50k gold and 100 days of premium time.
My brother and clanmates made similar experiences. But nevertheless, if you only want to have a specific tier 8 tank buying boxes is too risky.
But if you need premium and gold, buying boxes is a very good way. As I already said, me and some clanmates spent 100€ and got things worth much more than 100€.

Because some number cruncher in the bowls of the headquarters has found that doing the lootbox sans outside selling makes more money for the company than outright selling the tanks.

Just looking at the amount of gold you get for the price of these boxes and consider all premium tanks and such bonus, these boxes are actually extremely beneficial.
I plan to buy boxes just for the E4 camo... i love the E4... id rather like you suggested just be able to buy the special camo

yeah i think they are ok as long as they are purchasable for ingame (not real money) like credits or earn chests eg (LoL Hots etc) because buying something you don't know the contets off is just too much

Are the boxes adjusted to the account they are on? This year I got the E75 TS and the Obj 703(II), plus the low tier tanks, and an extra Progresso (in gold since I had it already) and I think all or most of the skins, all for $100/75 boxes...last year I did the same thing. I have a decent amount of premiums on my account also.
I know it's all anecdotal, but I opened like 15 boxes, got the B. Panther, 2 sextons, the two french tier 2 premiums, and a skin for the e100 and the french tier 10 prem

I bought the large box X75. Got both the Obj 703 II and E75 TS. That gives $49.99 per tanks plus various other goodies. I know that isn't guaranteed for all; but, worked out for me.
4 tier 8s in 50 boxes on the RU server... not suspicious at all.

You are not, because you have your head screwed on right. Buy 'em for the value, and if you get extra tanks then bonus. I got quite a few personally. Everything except the 130, which I already had anyway. I was surprised how many of the smaller tanks I didnt already have though- The firefly, bretagne panther and I seem to recall a couple others too. Not the pzIIIk or sexton for sure though.
QB needs a couple more sextons so he can 15 vs 15 against someone elses sextons! :P
I bought 25 of each type of box. I got 3 tanks (including the E75) within the first 6 boxes, and 3 more tanks (including the progetto and Object) and 5 of the 6 skins in the first 25. Didnt get the crewman till around box 70 or so though, and like I said I didnt get a 130 at all.
Same here! The 703 and othe premiums I got were the icing on the cake!
pulled the double barrel first box out of 75 boxes . ended up will all the tanks. really happy with the SU-130
I'll be honest. These boxes are so much better value than normally buying gold. As in, I got more gold through my boxes than I get simply buying gold (29000). On top of that I get silver, I get premium days (60) I got a bunch of different premium tanks, and most of the skins, and 5 new crew members.
So really I think if you look at these from a "I'm buying gold" perspective they're super cheap and come with bonuses.
This is not filthy. This is the only time of year I buy gold.
