RARE Hawker Siddeley HS 748s STILL FLYING! Air Creebec in Timmins, Ontario [4K]

- The Hawker Siddeley HS 748 is a British turboprop airliner designed in the late 1950s, and was developed as a 40-48 seat replacement for the DC-3.
As a result, it was built to be a simple and rugged aircraft that could land on unpaved runways and haul north of 12,000 pounds of cargo at a time.
A few of these still fly in Northern Ontario, and with only 5 of these planes total flying in Canada, this is one of the rarest aircraft types in the country.
So, for @MarkBrandonAviation and I, it was worth making another trip to Timmins, Ontario just to see Air Creebec's two HS 748s in action!
Many thanks to those who helped make these shots possible.

Love that RR Dart ‘scream’!
Thanks Alex for being out there for us and providing us with such great content. Greetings from germany :)
looking through the comments and see your from Germany, Matheson a small town near Timmins has an old train station and on the bricks are signatures from people all over. Found 2 visitors from Germany in 1954, cool.
Ah yes the Hawkers. An almost daily sight for most of us in Northern Ontario. :)
Wasaya has quite a variety of liveries on their hawkers and each hawker arrival always makes a pretty nice sight. :)
Saw quite a few when working for freight last year. Along with a few Dash 7s and Beechcraft 1900Ds :)
Nice plane spotting video man. Never knew the air creebec hawkers flew close to Fort Severn from Timmins. Hopefully these hawkers can stay around for atleast another decade. But with the rarity of parts, it’s hard to say now. :)
Air Cree is retiring their last Hawker this year. Out of parts to maintain it.
@@Winglet520 When are they retiring them exactly?
@@lockheedL1049 I am hearing they will not go beyond 2024. Nothing confirmed yet.
Fantastic catch and really great video! 🙂
Good to see worked on them in production at chadderton & woodford. Great aircraft Rolls Royce dart engines. Imagine some of my wiring on these noticed one with wide freight door. Other standard
HS 748 Great Airplane ....
Aaah, the ring of Dart engines. Very nice to see a pair of "Budgies" still earning a living. Thanks for this.
4:17 It never gets old with RR Dart engines.
We’re so used to hearing PT6s that it almost sounds weird to hear anything else.
This one was build in 1975, cool old plane.
Its always amazing to see a rare aircraft...its a great feeling 😍😍
I worked on those (as a mechanic) for Austin Airways back in the late 70s. Even having used ear protection, my ears are still ringing from being close to those Darts. Thanks for the memories!
Those Darts are one if not the sounding turboprop engines of all time.
i miss those British classic propliner! Grew up in Manitoba at my local CYTH Thompson where Calm Air had been flying HS748s out of Thompson for scheduled flights and freight operations for many years! The Darts such a beautiful high pitch sounds! They retired in mid 2010s to replace them to modern ATRs
Awesome to see them fly and to now know their history, thanks for the upload
As a aircraft engineer electrical avionics worked on these in production noticed one wide freight door this was a option in production on them great aircraft. Spent many hours under the floors wiring these and also galley undercarriage and wings. Really great to see know the aircraft inside out literally
You put the Autopilot gyro in a shit of a place for maintenance.
Flew in these babies at First Air, Baffin Island in the Eighties great plane, great design...
Absolutely awesome!!
Nice! You have a lot of rare birds in Canada. The screaming dart engines remind me of the Viscount I flew in in the early 70s.
Hats off for your effort Alex. You deserve more subscribers.
This I the first airplane I saw when I was4 years old and also the first plane to fly in
Thanks a lot for this great video, I didn't know at all this plane !! Il love it when the propeller gets angrier and angrier !! 😀
AMAZING!! Thank you for this. Super jealous!
Nice content
what an interesting landing technique
Flew on a MT Cook Airlines HS 748 back in the mid-80s. Cheers!
Always happy to see Native owned air service operators eh! :)
You should have heard the Rolls-Royce Dart scream on the Vickers Viscount. I heard it from the outside and inside as a passenger. It was something to hear
I worked as a load master on Wasaya’s HS748 in YRL. Cool experience but they are beaten up to hell
In 85 I was apprentice mechanic for Austin Airways, as far as I know they were bought from Chile airforce. Tuff old birds.
How's your hearing, Dave? 🙂
@@kbjerke they are loud, but other jobs did kill my hearing, lol
Use to work on them in the NWT, as well have about 100hrs flying one..
I'd love to see how they load the cargo on these aircraft.
WHAT!?
only got to fly on air airillinois hawker between spi and stl
I’m getting a model of this plane so I can make it out of wood and put it outside with SATA logo back in the 80’s an d display it with my windmill😁
any pax ones left in Canada
Sadly no, PJR with the windows still intact is probably the closest thing
Engine sound was painful to these old ears.
Like seeing a DC-3 still in service…
Good one Alex!
