- Finasteride (Proscar) inhibits metabolism of testosterone but still antagonizes its actions. How its possible? Its all due to its active metabolite dihydrotestosterone (DHT) which leads all the actions of testosterone as it shows more affinity on androgen receptors.
So elevated levels of DHT leads to few of the pathological conditions like Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH), acne, alopecia and even hirsutism. In this context, Finasteride inhibits type II 5-alpha reductase enzyme therefore it reduces DHT levels in serum.

What is it exactly that finasteride does when we say that it "inhibits 5-Alpha reductase"? Does finasteride cause your body to reduce the production of 5-aR?

What is it exactly that finasteride does when we say that it "inhibits 5-Alpha reductase"? Does finasteride cause your body to reduce the production of 5-aR? Or does it specific prevent 5-aR from working on testosterone? If it is the former, than there may be unintended consequences because 5-aR is also needed to reduce progesterone to dihydroprogesterone as just one example. In other words, 5-aR is responsible for the reduction of many hormones to their dihydro-version. If we reduce the body's production of 5-aR, then it would seem that we are aslo reducing the conversion of many hormones to the dihyro-version

If we use finasteride.
It prevents testosterone convertion into DHT
but finasteride doesn't prevent testosterone convertion into Estrogen.
So please tell me the best Estrogen blocker.

Excellent question Suresh. Anastrozole is the most common ingredient we use in our molecular medicine rebalancing clinic. @@jspbipro I've gotten used to the occasional balance issues. The retrograde ejaculation isn't much of a negative. My breasts have enlarged, slightly. ED symptoms and decreased libido are inevitable with BPH.

It taked 3 months for me i am using it From 10 months and i am feeling it's side effects, i have to much low sexual desire now, i am thinking to discontinue
Update: i have reduced my dose from 1mg to 0.25mg per day, now i am not feeling any side effects and finastride is working fine too...
