    I too had a return this year due to an incredibly stressful job. What I realised is I was always trying to control my sleep even when I thought I was better . I have a long way to go but I try carry on regardless now and have a good day

    I understood your principle to resolve sleep issues by major trigger for migraine headaches is lack of sleep. I’d love to hear how you would deal with this. My migraines can be quite devastating and can last up to a week and nearly totally immobilize me.

    The interesting thing is we don't really understand sleep in general. I wonder why can't sleep be replaced with something else? Like a supplement or dietary aspects.

    What you said about the doctors is very very true. I visited all kinds of specialists and the diagnosis was always different

    On experimentation, i guess the point we want to be at is live life regardless of whatever the nights may bring. Not letting insomnia rule your life, almost like not playing an opponent at chess. Play the game regardless of the outcome. Of course, you are playing yourself at chess 😊

      @@alankeni hi. Its not easy. I had a night with no sleep whatsoever last week after nights of sleep. I got up and said to myself that I would plan my day as I would if I had slept. I went on a long walk at 7am, which set the scene in a positive way for the rest of the day. I remember Daniel saying that its about the narrative we tell ourselves following a night of little/no sleep. I was conscious of how frustrated and disappointed I was feeling as morning approached and tried my best to allow myself to feel this but also be kind and remind myself to trust in the process and know my body will regulate itself. I had a very deep and long sleep the following night (which I know isn't a guarantee). Sorry, I know its awful when you are awake facing work the next day. I also remember Alina talking about the messages / thoughts our mind delivers during speedbumps, ie catastrophising thoughts and how being prepared to receive them, smile and acknowledge that its the minds way of running an automated programme in response to being awake, was also helpful. I still find befriending wakefulness uncomfortable but I'm certainly better than what I used to br, which I use as a positive reminder when I feel resistance to befriending wakefulness. I have in my mind what I'm going to watch on TV, should I need to get out of bed and visualise being calm, should this take place. Its a difficult journey (I've been struggling for approximately a year), but I've been implementing the sleep coach / fearless sleep principles for approximately 6-8months, however through education and listening to success stories (I'm currently on sebatical from both), I've tweaked my approach/responses. One example would be when I was lying in bed awake and then deciding to listen to music and realising I was using this as a subtle attempt to fall asleep). Its all a learning process but I absolutely appreciate the the feelings/ thoughts that come after a difficult night. Last point. I've also purchased and read radical acceptance by Tara Brach and The Untethered Soul by Michael Singer which have been really helpful not just on my insomnia journey but helping me in a much broader sense to understand myself and navigate and hopefully get the best out of my life (I'm 57). I hope this may provide some small crumb of comfort / hope. Take care

      @@alankeni also, I've had many speedbumps that have involved little / no sleep and have gone to work the following day and it's not easy, so I do understand

    Is it unreasonable for me to expect my sleep to return to exactly how it was before becoming an insomniac once I've "recovered". Or does insomnia leave a lot of people's sleep quality permanently scarred for life even if they get it to a manageable state? I heard that once your brain makes the connection that sleep = scary, it can never fully revert to how it used to be. Is this just a myth? And can everyone fully recover from insomnia and return to sleeping the same as they used to?
    I've currently been plateaued for 7 weeks where I'm only just scraping 7 hours of bad quality sleep with 2-3 wakeups a night, and the hyperarousal is still there since I don't get as drowsy. I don't feel the best during the day and my eyes are usually red and droopy. I also have to adhere to my strict wake up time with no naps just to be able to get this amount of sleep daily. I'm trying to be as patient as possible though and not get frustrated with not seeing signs of improvement for such a long time.
    Do you have any good advice/reassurance for me in this situation?

      You sound way to obsessed believing things like that your obviously still researching alot Is not really a good sign reading things like that . Just let go man.

      In time yes. I've had alot of satisfying sleeps on my recovery path. Never been more than 7.5 hours like I used to but that feels good as it's solid sleep. But I'm still getting the odd bad night. And still got some lingering residual fear like Daniel said it takes a long time to fade.

      @@thesleepcoachschool8192 no no what I mean is that when I get all this real information and somebody on internet drops Matthew Walker esque facts about sleep like socks on and all that just makes me furious lmao I don't know how can I recommend this channel to more people

      I love the example of having a car crash and how we continue to have low level thoughts /emotions and how that fits with leaving insomnia struggles
