Do you need to use the cleaning kit first time you use the unit or when you change the filter?

Hi Mark, the system must be cleaned once a year using the cleaning cartridge 40434001. To do this, you need the adapter for the cleaning cartridge 40694000 once (this adapter is already included with the Grohe Blue Professional). If the system is operated in a public / commercial area (e.g. in the kitchen of a company), cleaning must be carried out twice a year.
The filter must be replaced after the capacity limit has been reached or after a year (depending on which event occurs first).

Why do the instructions include another measurement (dGH) and filter model number? Choosing the correct filter is so confusing. How do I choose the correct filter??

Hi Michelle, that depends on how much water is drawn. If you aren't sure, you should start with the S-size filter (No. 40404001).
There is no point in taking the L-size filter straight away, as the filter should be changed after a year for hygienic reasons, regardless of whether the filter capacity has been reached or not.
Furthermore, the carbonate hardness is decisive. If your water supplier supplies water with a carbonate hardness of less than 9 degrees, the activated carbon filter (No. 40547001) must be used.
