The video's an hour long, I'm not sure what I'd be able to put into the description to help sell this video, so I'll talk about something else entirely. Have any of you ever stayed at Coronado Springs at Walt Disney World? Honestly, I think it's kind of an underrated resort. Sure, the only transportation options are busses, but once you get passed that the entire resort is a vibe. The pool? Amazing. Dining options? Great. It's nice and quiet and the theme is blended in beautifully. Highly recommend Coronado Springs if you get the chance.

The most likely reason why the Starcruiser was so expensive is because of the actors who are working 12+ hour shifts in character. I'm not blaming the actors, I'm blaming Disney. They were dumping that immersion cost onto the guests instead of putting it into the parks. I agree with you that hopefully they learned a lesson and will transfer that immersion into Galaxy's Edge.

The one thing that Harry Potter world has over galaxy’s edge is the ability to interact with the environment with the use of the wands. If they could somehow do that like you were using the force at galaxy’s edge, it would definitely increase the immersion and feel that you are a part of it

They did do an element with the Play Disney Parks app where you use your smartphone as a datapad in a lot of different spots around Galaxy's Edge, translating messages and "hacking" the droids and transmitters to change their atmospheric sounds and lights. I think they were aiming for "everyone with a smart device already can do it- you don't have to buy an item specifically!" as an upperhand over the wands at Universal. But it's kind of backwards to encourage using a smartphone app in an immersive land where smartphones don't exist.

What might fix a lot of problems is just making Star Wars it’s own new park, with its own lands; Hoth, Tatooine, Endor, Coruscant, Cloud City, and have like little space ship themed transition points, or Hyperspace jump points or something to take you to each one or something. It would make the Star Wars universe feel less small which Galaxy’s edge does.

A kid-friendly ride & additional restaurants & more seating would significantly increase the time people spend in Galaxy's Edge. In Florida, it seems like there is plenty of space in the NW side of the land to do that.

  • @sirbossk
    @sirbossk Před 7 měsíci +17

The first time I went to Galaxy's Edge, my mind was legitimately blown. Now, besides riding Rise of the Resistance, it's always sort of an afterthought in the average Disneyland day. For me, the Wizarding World has aged much better on repeat visits. There's just more mystique and intrigue there, and it feels more lived in and dynamic and worth revisiting every now and then.
I really think you need to make a point to get out to a Universal park at some point. Disney's overall catalog of parks right now is definitely better, but I think the stuff Universal has been building recently far outshines Disney's new stuff. Next time you're in Florida, tack on a day at Islands of Adventure and try to get on Hagrid's and Velocicoaster.

I'm like 100x the star wars fan as I am a harry potter fan, and I basically go into GE to ride the rides and leave. Diagon alley was so good that I literally went in not a fan of HP and after leaving read all the books and rewatched all the movies because it is just that immersive. Pandora is also great, and had a similar effect. GE just sucks. I do love both of the rides, but you could put those rides in tommorowland and I'd have pretty much the same experience.

I work overnights at Universal, and roughly once a month I go into Diagon Alley just to look at everything. The entrance alone is incredible from a design perspective, like it’s almost hidden? And then once you’re inside, the physical scale of everything is jaw dropping. There are so many little details that really make the area feel alive, like there’s a little alley way in the back with a window looking into the magical beasts store, and in the window is a massive animatronic snake. Like that much work put into something that a lot of people will miss. Not to mention Knockturn Alley, again another sort of hidden passage which contains an inside amount of detail and immersion. Can’t wait for Epic Universe.

I think my biggest issue with Galaxy's Edge is how empty & spread-out it all feels. I feel like the things you mentioned (more characters, a third attraction, vehicles of some sort, a hitching post, etc) as well as some streetmosphere/shows of some kind would help fill it out a lot. Would love to see a version of Gaya's show from the Starcruiser make it's way to GE somehow.
Also, on the subject of GE's food: I get the comment about it being "serviceable," but it legit has some of the best vegetarian/vegan options in all of DLR. The felucian kefta at Docking Bay and the Ronto-less wrap at Roasters are both truly S-tier veg-friendly Disneyland food. Especially when a lot of the other veg options that offer any protein at Disneyland Park (DCA is a bit better) are, like, bleh veggie burgers.

    • @lightworthy

i agree with you! it feels really empty for how much space it takes up, and as to his point of “it’s the same as new orleans”, i feel like the space is A. (i think) smaller so it doesn’t feel as egregious because there’s not so much dead space and then just shops and then EVENTUALLY an attraction, and B. used better so it at least FEELS smaller to your mind. if the entire star wars area was even slightly cramped, it’d feel like an acceptable amount of space used and attractions built. especially as someone who hasn’t actually seen any of the movies, the space felt like just walking through a movie set, not like i was IN the world. and maybe some of that is due to me not knowing a lot of the environmental storytelling, but a LOT of it is from how empty and static it was everywhere except right next to the two rides

It's the same mistake they're making with the Avengers ride as we speak. People are already sick of the MCU's multiverse stuff, focusing the attraction on that will tank people's interest in it before the ride can even open. They should've just focused on Phases 1-3 of the films.

As a local, annual passholder in Orlando, and a lover of Star Wars (specifically the prequels), I was obsessed with Galaxy’s Edge during construction and the first year of operation. Since then, I’ve become an occasional visitor to this area of the park. Sometimes, I don’t even visit it when in Hollywood Studios. The lines are typically pretty long, and as a passholder, I don’t normally wait in anything longer than 30 minutes. It’s just not desirable for me since I have the opportunity to visit so often. Galaxy’s Edge is often busy, long lines and congestion with little for people to actually see or do to keep the traffic moving. I’d love to see more characters out there and continue the fun theming and “out of this world” chat in conversation that made you feel immersed.

I wish they kept better maintenance of the land. Rise of the Resistance has been on B-Mode every time I've gone, recently. Last time I went, they didn't even do the preshow with the Rey hologram and the ship that gets taken over by the Star Destroyer. They took us down a hallway and we were just automatically lined up to go to the interrogation room. It was a bummer because we were with someone who was seeing all of this for the first time :/

My first time walking through the market area in Galaxy's Edge I was stopped by Fennec Shand. She seemed to pop out of nowhere as no one else there seemed to be paying attention to her (a crowd is usually how I spot characters). After a little bit of back and forth, she allowed me to go. That single instance felt more immersive than anything else during my visit. If Disney wants to make the land more alive, they need more non-Disney-guests. It wouldn't be too difficult to have some random aliens wander through the land carrying on with their regular day. I'm not even talking about characters from the lore, I just mean extras in character like this Mon Cal spends a few minutes checking on the hydration stations, goes to the docking bay to grab some food, and then heads leaves. Or a Sullustan that checks on the resistance ships. Make seeing aliens so common that you don't need photo-ops or big named characters to make it feel alive.
Unrelated, in the First Order plaza they should have an indoor shooting gallery to train prospective First Order soldiers. It can be a recruitment office operated by a First Order Officer and use screens and 3D glasses to enhance the targets. It would would fit the type of entertainment between a walk-through and an actual ride. It wouldn't take long so the line would move quickly and would require very little oversight.

I went through it a summer or two ago. I was excited to see a Star Wars themed park. It was a cool sight at first but I got so bored so quick. It’s got a great set piece and all but there’s just so little to do. You can go oooh and ahhh at the sights but that’s just it. Few walk around actors to interact with or talk to, few things to interact with.
Compare that to the Harry Potter park at Universal Studios. There’s so many things to do, so many things to see, so many hidden secrets for you to search through and it actually sparks that childlike excitement in you.

The concept of Savi’s sabers are great. Easily removable blades that can be any color depending on the crystal inside is brilliant. The problem is that they didn’t bother spending the money on making anything size appropriate. The chassis/core is the thickness that a lightsaber should be, but then you need to add the shell component, which makes it about 50% to 80% thicker. It’s difficult for an average person just to hold comfortably, let alone use it (play with it). If a kid wants to get one, it’s going to be almost impossible for them to use it. If neopixel blades could be made locking/spring/loaded, and if the data/sound fonts could be nfc and designed to look like a crystal, they’d be as perfect as it’s possible to be without the ones from the movies coming to our galaxy/universe. Oh, and wireless charging like would be nice too.

The more characters wandering around, the better. That’s one of the things that Disneyland has a leg up on WDW. The amount of characters walking around all the lands at DL is incredible and made the experience that much more magical than WDW parks. (Plus, I don’t wait in line to meet characters at WDW because I’d rather be riding attractions. So going to DL and seeing characters ALL over the place was so amazing and I didn’t have to wait to have an awesome convo with mando and R2).

Have pit droids repairing the speeders. Have a mouse droid run around the First Order ship. Have a Kowokian (might have misspelled) monkey lizard swing above the market. These plus some alien animatronics in areas where guests can’t enter would be an easy way to create an illusion of biodiversity and just general life into the area.

Watching this five days out, it really has been a pretty bold experiment overall. Not without its flaws, but frankly the biggest issue that plagues either land has been Disney's inability to respond to the problems that have crept up soon enough. Honestly with a bit more tweaking to set the area outside of the sequel trilogy timeline, leave it more open-ended and timeless like other themed areas of the parks, and it will creep back to the top of the list of immersive theme park experiences.
Also, I've said it before, but I'll say it again: you *need* to visit Universal Studios Orlando *before* Epic Universe opens. The parks are in a constant state of flux with older experiences getting replaced by newer ones, and I guarantee none of it will be recognizable after Epic Universe is open. Seriously, if you get a chance to see the impact that the Wizarding World had on the rest of the resort, you'll understand why Disney rushed to open similar experiences like Galaxy's Edge. Oh, and I'd hit up Hollywood too, just to get a taste of what Epic Universe will offer on a smaller scale.

The only thing that I wish were working better at the time was the credits system. We rode Smuggler's Run three times, and we saw no credits associated with our profile in the datapad. But it was a lot of fun completing missions and scanning the crates in the line. Our sole issue with that was that when we were there, it was such low crowds (mid-September 2021) that we spent more time walking the queues than waiting in them. But I love the amount of story that they managed to squeeze into the environment.

The best days in SWGE (lack of hitchingposts notwithstanding), at least at Batuu East, are the days where the bounders are out en masse and the outpost feels *alive* and like you really are there. The days where it feels a little awkward to be there in normal park clothes. I wish Disney would do a little more to help encourage that feeling with some of their own characters and elements in the park, especially at DHS now that the starcruiser is defunct and we are no longer tied to the timeline.
That said, I'll settle for a consistent stretch of time where RotR doesnt go down and the entire attraction is once again in A-mode. I hope in future attraction endeavors we value quality over time rather than whats newest and flashiest the moment it opens.

    1. To add more movement, maybe have a Tusken Raider (or some other SW creature that would be more Batuu specific)ride around on a Bantha every now and then, similar to the characters from DCA’s Cars Land.
    2. Put Sonny Eclipse in Docking Bay 7, or some other food location. (Fun fact, Sonny Eclipse was actually a re-use of a mold used for a character from Tokyo’s Star Tours, and the characters are said to be cousins, so then Disney could bring both of them out of legends and make them canon) Or, they could bring in Max Rebo (who absolutely did not die in BoBF, he was specifically not shown in that scene on purpose.)

I'm not a Star Wars "person", it's not part of my personal fandom, and I don't own one piece of SW merch. That being said, I grew up with the original movies, and I enjoy them. I like the characters and mythology behind the films. Obviously, the prequel trilogy was not very good, but when the new sequel trilogy came out, I actually really enjoyed them. That's why it shocks me to find out that the "fandom" didn't like them. I had no idea they weren't well received by fans. I thought they were good. Again, SW isn't my "thing" that I hold holy or precious, so maybe that's why. Nothing about Disney's Galaxy Edge and especially the Star Cruiser was made for me. I'm not the target audience. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Rise of Resistance, because I'm an immersive attraction guy, but I also love the Gringots and Hogwarts castle attractions at Universal for the same reason. For me, it's not the IP, it's the level of detail and creativity. Sometimes when you love an IP too much and hold it too sacred, you can't enjoy things that are new and different.

    • @oneearrabbit
      @oneearrabbit Před 7 měsíci +1

@@NinthShinigamiOne reason is it’s not just the technology and IP that makes the ride so cool. A lot of it has to do with the cast members who really get into character as First Order officers or Resistance operatives.
I went on Rise the very first day it opened, and I was dressed in my Sith robes. As I was standing looking in awe at the stormtroopers one of the First Order cast members comes and stands in front of me walking exactly as a military member would do and he snapped to attention. He then gives a very slight bow and slowly motions with his left arm out for me to follow the rest of the guests. The guy did what the land promised. Without a word and just a moment of roleplay he made me feel like I was a member of the Sith/First Order being shown respect and asked to follow everyone else, not given harsh orders like the other guests.
Now granted I haven’t been on Hagrid’s or Gringots’ so I don’t know if their cast members do these sort of things. But that level of immersion and roleplay is something I never experienced at Universal. But every time I go on Rise there’s always some little moment: a gesture, a comment, a look, that makes me feel like I am in the Star Wars universe not just on a ride.

@@oneearrabbit that’s actually a really cool experience you got. I can definitely see that being a reason as to why, but like I said my real issue isn’t with the cast members or really the pre queue. Just the ride itself mostly.

@@oneearrabbitYea but the storyline and endless pre shows and queue just gets a little old eventually. The cast members at universal are in character, but usually don’t have lines to recite. I’m not a giant SW fan so I don’t appreciate the CMs as much as you do, we all have different opinions ig. HOWEVER, as a ride, I firmly believe ROTR is very overrated, and would consider it slightly above average (Better than runaway railway, worse than Indiana jones and RSR)

I would really like it if they added some more areas for you to just explore around in galaxy’s edge… like some upper levels with gardens where you can observe the characters from above as they walk around and sip on the blue milk. Just take in the atmosphere. Could be on top of the cantina, like in Star Wars: Jedi Survivor, but ideally with some bridges that connect to the other building rooftops. There could be small details to notice, like a small monkey lizard or some funny sound effects/recorded character lines that you overhear from someone’s living room because it’s a quieter area… also like the conversations of the enemies in Jedi Survivor. I could spend hours just hanging out and enjoying the atmosphere if they did that, and I don’t think the cost would be astronomical compared to putting in more rides or hiring more cast members to play characters.
