    I was a DCP at Walt Disney World in 2012 and got to take a few tours of the Haunted Mansion. Not only was it cool to see everything with the lights on, but they told us the true story about the man with the cane.
    He was an older cast member who liked to play practical jokes on guests and fellow cast members. He timed everything just right so he could hop on and off the doom buggies in the right places, get noticed, and go hide his hat, cape and cane and return as if nothing happened with nobody the wiser. When he retired, he revealed the secret to his cast members and friends.

      @@vincevdijk7430 I'm really sorry about this little essay, I just have way to much time to analyze this media lol. The costume that the phantom wears within the manor is very similar to the Red Death costume the phantom wears in both the book and of course the musical. And while Henry Ravenswood in life is not deformed, he is shown to be a skeleton and a corpse in death (unlike many of the other apparitions in the manor) and that is exactly what Erik is described to look like in the book. He's waxy and thin and has no nose, he basically just looks like a skeleton or a living corpse. Plus the possessive father character who tries to/does kill the love interest of the girl, seems like a really similar comparison to me (though the phantom in Poto is also *in love* with christine). And in the book, Erik asks Christine to choose the scorpion or the grasshopper, scorpion signifying him (Erik) and the Grasshopper signifying freedom. If Christine chooses the grasshopper, he has the entire opera house rigged to blow up, basically if he can't have her, no one can. If I stretch a little bit, that seems sort of similar to the whole thunderbird thing. Let me explain that cause i'm really stretching lol. My thought process on this is that, Melanie has freedom (the grasshopper) because her father is dead due to the thunderbird/mining explosion, and probably a significant amount of people in the town (though if Christine chose the grasshopper, she'd definitely die too) So it kind of echoes the opera house explosion. With her fathers death, her love is killed by the Phantom so even though the guy wasn't taken out directly by the explosion, Henry Ravenswood still managed to kill him like Erik would kill Raoul. Phantom Manor is a heck of a lot more depressing than Poto cause in Poto at least Erik eventually lets Christine go on to live her life. Poor Melanie.

      I think one of the reasons why they wanted to distance from it, was because of the main alien character was played by Jeffory Jones, and at the time he was arrested for being a pedo. So Disney being Disney, they wanted to distance from him.

      There's a good theory there but I think it's more the simple fact that Europe is darker in general than America, colder, cloudier etc and we also use dimmer lightbulbs and streetlights (hardly any big lit up billboards and such) so that probably plays a factor so our eyes are more adjusted to the dark, when I go over to America the first couple of days is a bit of an affront to the senses with everything bigger brighter and louder until you adjust and it mellows out, my grandad used to say it's like a floodlight when a candle will do, applying the analogy to the ride you can get more details with the floodlights but the candles make it spookier like there's something missing

    • @rach_laze
      @rach_laze Před 5 lety +1

      If you think this is dark you should watch povs of some of the other rides we have over here 😂 13 or even Hex or Duel at Alton towers, alice in wonderland and Valhalla at pleasure beach or (I think) toad hall at paultons park we like to have the darkness shrouding things in mystery, duel is pretty much a direct comparison to the MIB ride in Florida so a good place to start if you're interested

    • @TherealRNOwwfpooh
      @TherealRNOwwfpooh Před 5 lety +1

      The reason that is would be because the rider's eyes can pick up details a camera cannot. As for the darker aspects, the gothic Victorian look of Florida's Mansion is what the local neighborhood cemeteries in Europe generally look like & the plantation Antebellum pristine Mansion in Anaheim doesn't mesh well with European visual culture, so neither of them would be SCARY enough, nor WORTHY enough to be called "Haunted Mansion" in Europe, since Europe (specifically France, Germany & Denmark) is where all of the GRIMM versions of Disney's more saccharine fairy tale adaptions come from!

    • @TherealRNOwwfpooh
      @TherealRNOwwfpooh Před 5 lety +1

      @@rach_laze It's not just the atmosphere, though. Yours is where the actual GRIMM Fairy Tales that Disney adapted comes from, so Phantom Manor NEEDED to be SCARIER anyway by default.

    I’ve been on both Disney world, and Disneyland haunted mansions like a million times each, and tbh the Disneyland one is like waaaayyyyyy better. The theming in Cali is so much better and there are like dozens more hidden things and meanings. Also the outside look of the Disneyland mansion is 10x more memorable than in MK. But legit though the Disney World mansion is not that bad. The audio animatronics in MK are far better that Disneyland and the outside waiting line is pretty fun. But like I said, I personally like Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion best!!

    One of the best parts of mystic manor is the fact that there are different rooms and sequences that you can get each time you ride (I mean there are only like 2 or 3 ones but still amazing) and you don’t know which one you will get until you get there because of the trackless nature of the ride. And the effects are so amazing. If you would’ve asked me years ago, nothing could beat the original haunted mansion but mystic manor is next level and my new favorite Disney attraction and also Harrison Hightower looks a lot like joe rhode ;) I mean he has said Harrison is based off of him and I love that

    I prefer the Orlando mansion with its recent addition to the queue and hitch hiking ghost effect. The effect is different but not so much that it takes away from the original feel. The Orlando mansion has a couple of additional scenes which make it slightly longer. The hatbox ghost in Anaheim is awesome and it being original makes it great also. Great video!

    Another AWESOME Video! I remember the day (in Anaheim's Park) when, after something like 46 years "The Hatbox Ghost" was finally 'returned' (or should that be 'Resurrected'?) back into the Haunted Mansion--people came literally from all over to be there. "Mystic Manor" also looks like an incredible ride that should be introduced into all the parks! One more thing though (and folks who work at both parks chuckle that you're a real 'Disney Insider' if you know this bit of trivia: The attraction in Anaheim is "The Gracey Mansion" (after Imagineer Yale Gracey) while the one in Florida is "The Gorey Mansion" (after the character in the original back-story, "Captain Gorey".) Also, that's not the "Ghost Host" seen hanging at the conclusion of the stretching room sequence--it's supposed to be "Master Gracey" ("...Gone to rest; No mourning please, at his request.") They used much of this story in the 2003 movie with Eddie Murphy. After seeing this vid though, they should be making a film of "Mystic Manor" instead!
