I used to work in torr vale mill in the 80s, where we wove towels contracts included the British army and Wimbledon tennis tournament plus many hospitals.
That's interesting. When did it close?
@@NarrowboatJourneys early 2000s as i recall it was a shame really as many staff had worked there for years. the quality was second to none but i think cheap imports finished them off. When I left I did the compulsory stint at the sweet factory then moved away and escaped

Very enjoyable cruise and nice side trip. That millennium walkway looks too modern...some artist needs to steampunk that walkway so it looks like it belongs among the stone walls and mill buildings.
I agree! I was also hoping to video a train above the walkway but it's not a very busy line.

I am smiling at 19:11 in the Vlog, the flying saucer shooting across the screen. Nice. I have been watching various Narrowboater Vlogs since Lockdown here in March 2020. Along the canals there are parts where there are dozens of narrowboats moored up. Then long stretches of the canal and not another narrowboat in sight. Amazing.
I actually wave back at you at the end of the Vlog.

Question...How far and apart are the winding holes? I'm don't imagine they are something you can count on to be accessed very often. Just wondering. I haven't mentioned that the wife and I are hopelessly hoping to one day possibly own a narrow boat. We have fallen in love with the canals with not only the beauty but the history as well. Each bridge seems to have a story of it's own. We are so glad the canals have been saved and/or restored! You have been on the canals for probably almost half of your life I'm guessing. They are truly something to behold. We've been bopping around your channel and enjoying it immensely! Thank you for sharing all of this with us! Especially the flying saucer at 9:12! Whoa! Did you realize it at the time or did you see it when editing? I've gone through the comments and only one person mentions it. I'm blown away! My comments have been long winded and I will trim them down in the future I promise. So, that wasn't something you added in? My jaw is on the ground right now. Tim
Thank you. Winding holes are very irregularly spaced. The flying saucers are quite often seen in my videos! 😉

Watched a few others this eve, cycling and strolling via canals etc., jumped across and yep the puddy cats were the deal breaker! 😄 subbed/liked. Got some catching up to do on your journey and shall recommend to others. One things for sure, a lot of those leaves are now no more and as the nice scenery unfolds - happy travels and ATB 👍

That gorgeous little house on the canal near Disley is still for sale - £650K. If I had the cash........
If I remember correctly that house was for sale in Jan 2020 when we walked along this tow path.

Just how did you manage the swings bridge? no towpath !!!!! all looks very uneven .
I covered those swing bridges in more detail in previous videos. they are quite tricky to do on your own.
