Put a nylon over the tube end of the vacuum hose attachment and the balls will collect on the nylon.

Although I have 3 kids and a house full of plants, they’re all easy-care ones. Anything that wasn’t, after it died, I noted that it wasn’t a species for me and didn’t bother trying again with a new one.

I repotted, took cuttings and divided nearly all the plants in my house on Friday.
I hadn't planned on it but a couple had been looking tired for a while so I just thought ok let's do this.
It took me all day and I really had to push through it .
Luckily for me my daughter now walks herself home from school!

Hi Michelle! After this, how do you continue caring for the alocasia? Do you rinse out the leca and add new nutrients again, and if so how often? Do you have a video on that you could point me to? Thanks!!
Keep it in leca until its root bound or if something looks awry (bugs, mold, etc) if that happens, id clean it or use a homemade anti fungal (cinnamon, not made just available) and i use water with hydrogen peroxide and dishsoap for the bugs(recipes online).
Fertilize with most waterings, use HYDRO fertilizer to prevent burn, and if the leca starts to collect nutrients(whiteness crystalized on the balls), then u can probably just give it regular water for a bit.
My alocasias are in dirt and leca right now, ive been making fresh corms in leca and its amazing!! Good luck:)
I do rinse the LECA every two weeks by flushing it under the sink and then I add nutrient water back in!

How do you decide what to root in stratum, perlite or just water?
Stratum is more expensive so only my more rarer plants and corms go in it. Everything else is perlite or water.

Im patiently waiting for my alocasia to give me a corm so I can grow him in leca!!! I have heard that the transition from soil to leca can kill them so I’m scared
I’ve transferred alos from soil to LECA. It helps if you keep the plant in water for a bit before moving to LECA
I have a plant and I think i might have overwatered it. The roots don't look as good and the leaves keep dying. I repotted them and got the bad leaves off
I probably would switch it to soil at that point with that much roots.
All of my Alos love LECA and I find it easier to manage for me but it certainly would do fine in soil too!

My small one is not on a pole. I did have a larger PPP that I did grow on a pole though! They are climbers in nature.

Anyone have the bottom of a corm go to mush because you put off repotting from moss too long?!?!?! HAAAALLLPPP
I cut the infected part off, sprayed with my perioxde mix, dipped end in cinnamon before repotting. It's a high end plant. Please tell me if I missed anything or if I have to redo it all. 😫
If a corm has turned soft, it has rotted. Alocasias can grow in moss long term so that may not have been the cause, but there are many factors that can contribute to a rotting plant. I would ensure there’s enough air flow.

Yup! Especially since the roots don’t initially touch water. Myco is also water soluble so you can water with it.

It’s a Myco inoculant that helps roots uptake nutrients.
Oh, shit! I wouldn't have ever thought about silica gel in plants. That makes super sense! Just so they didn't little get root rot. Or am I a genius? Lol?😅😅 I think I really am because they said nothing about that so come on. Maybe that be something for you if you were worried about overwatering your plants.

They don't sell that root powder here in my country. I like this channel, I do, but watching it is so over complicated and disheartening. Kind of really makes me not want to have any plants and it's quite intense and overwhelming :/
Plant care can be as chill or “extra” as you want it to be! I’m definitely on the more “extra” end of the spectrum but at the basic level, just get plants that bring you joy and make sure you know their light and watering needs 🥰
