Growing plants from tissue culture may seem daunting, but the process was actually pretty easy (especially considering I was so rushed during mine). There are many nurseries and online sellers who will sell packs of tissue culture plants and it's a fun way to experiment growing plants from these!
I recommend starting off with an easy going plant for your first tissue culture experience so you can experiment with the process. This is a cost-effective way to grow some more expensive, rare plant varieties.
STEPS:
1. With clean hands (gloves preferred), remove the tissue culture from its bag/container.
2. Wash off the gel/agar in warm water
3. Remove any dead leaves or rotted roots and soak the plant in a fungicide solution (I use neem and castile soap).
4. Rinse the plant in clean water.
5. Plant in a sterile medium (I used sphagnum moss) and keep in 100% humidity for the first several weeks. You can use rooting hormone as well (I used a myco inoculant, which isn't the same, but it helps with transplant shock and water/nutrient uptake). Don't let the moss dry out.
6. Gradually acclimate the plant by adding a hole to the humidity dome every two weeks (I used a soldering iron). Or, simply expose the plant to less humidity for gradually longer periods of time.
7. Repot the plant into a larger pot in the medium of your choice (I did an aroid mix in a self-watering set-up for my variegated Alocasia dragon scale).
Let me know if you would try this!

Tissue culture has made many rare plants more affordable and accessible. It is easier to ship tissue culture across the world rather than a plant that was previously in soil. 😊
This is FACTS! I wonder if tissue cultures can by pass phytosanitary requirements
@@ohtheplacesyoullgrowno it cannot but it is less of an issue if plants are stuck in customs
@ohtheplacesyoullgrow Tissue culture is super interesting! And it's great it makes plants that normally would be expensive are cheaper for people!!! I wanna start ordering some online. I was nervous ùßßsssssssssßßsßw 1stat first, but like you said, there are reputable plant sellers out there. I've been watching some videos and signed up for Whatnot and watched some people selling their plants! There were some really pretty plants! I'm going to watch the videos you put on here put on about th le Tissue culture ùsiììàààaààìoʻ

Omg. Your channel has fast become my favorite. You know that when I’m walking the dogs and I’m actually trying to see the screen in the sun. Hilarious thanks for the great videos.
Hahaha Jacqueline that scene is just too funny. Thanks for watching 💛
@@ohtheplacesyoullgrow Yea I'm totally a clown and then they see a squirrel and there we go.
Having only read the steps to care for a tissue culture, I was intimidated. Your video made it much more approachable. Thank you!
And I did it soooo rushed and haphazardly and it still worked out 🤣. I feel much more confident for this next batch I’m about to do 💪
I'm sure I've said this before but I love your channel. Your channel is one of my favorites.
Wow, thank you!
I guess that is a bag of plant tissue anthurium or ... so many choices...😅
Can't wait to see what they are ❤
Good guess!!! Not an anthurium though. It’s a philodendron 🥰
Love your videos! Looks like a Philo Florida Beauty to me…
Thank you!! It IS a philodendron
YAY another planty movie 🎥
It took me so long because everyone in my family is sick ☠️
@@ohtheplacesyoullgrowget well soon!
My guess for the plant baggie are spiritus sancti
Ding ding 🥰
@@ohtheplacesyoullgrow yay! lol love you by the way. Your content makes me smile every time I watch it 😊
Alocasia dragon scale is such beautiful Alocasia
True
Their texture is so cool!
You completely took my fears out of tissue culture! Really great video, thank you so much.
Dont know if you tried this, using a baby toothbrush to remove spagnum from roots has been a lifesaver for me. Its supersoft on the roots and the spagnum comes off so easily.
I never thought about using a baby toothbrush! I have many of those. Thanks!! It’s a fun experiment. I encourage you to try 🌱
@@ohtheplacesyoullgrow Seriously going to try this, so excited.
OMG! So cool! I just bought my own Dragon Scale Alocasia a couple weeks ago. But a variegated one... thats even cooler!!!
It’s so pretty!
@@ohtheplacesyoullgrow IKR!! 🥰😍🥰😍🤩🤩🤩😵💫🤯💀💀
Thank you SOOOOO much for this video! Like really, really, BIG thank you!!!😁I have been way too intimidated to buy a TC plant because of the acclimation process. Now I think I'm ready. I have everything on hand except my castile soap is peppermint so I will have to get the basic formula. Thanks for sharing your self watering set up too. I do someone similar with dollar tree containers.
You’re welcome! I have the peppermint Castile soap and that’s what I used here! Which TC do you plan on trying?
Beautiful Dragon Scale 😀🇨🇦
Thank you!!! She’s coming in quite nicely!
The 1st plant (cant remember the name of it...brain fart!) But it's one that i definitely want! I have it on my wish list. I looked up some that I want and wrote them down so I'll have to go back and look at what it's called and look at my list. But I've seen them before and they are gorgeous! The tissue cultured plants are absolutely amazing! Very interesting! 💚🪴
The first place is a Syngonium Albo and super easy to care for!! 💛. Definitely one for the list 📝
@@ohtheplacesyoullgrow I definitely agree! It's gorgeous! 😍
That a clever solution to the cloche, I've a calathea recovering in one, and yeah the 100% is a problem, I've the edge propped up and that seems to help, but I like your idea :)
A very beautiful specimen!!💚🤍💚🤍❣️
And it’s unfurling two fabulous leaves at the moment!
beautiful little planty!
Thank you so much! Quite proud of this one
Nice rug!
Oh thank you!!! 💛💛💛 it’s from an artist in the UK (Labeled Masterpieces). I had it commissioned a few months ago and I love it. “MICHELLE10” will get you a discount if you’re interested
I use my hand drill for everything. Works perfectly for all my plastic containers and never breaks them. Clean hole every time
Oh that’s good to know!!! I wondered on thin plastic
@@ohtheplacesyoullgrow Yes works. I put something under them with a little opening so the drill goes through that area and don't need to rush it, just use even pressure and it's perfect.
Im a big fan
😄😄
Thank you!
Yesss so excited to see you do a TC video! If you are looking for super duper cheap TC's in socal I have ghetto lab and also import in bulk! Would gladly donate a GORGEOUS monstera mint for more TC content!
Email me!
You can use your waterpik to clean off the roots!
Omg I have a water pick and never thought of that!!
Hi, I been watching your videos for a while and you always put a smile in my day 😆 would you sell some of your Alocasia variegated? Please let me know. Thank you
Hi! I did do a giveaway of two of my frydeks recently 💛. If I do more I’ll be sure to announce here
@@ohtheplacesyoullgrow great to hear back from you! Nice to know you here. I have Frydek bought it on birthday gift early this year 🥰 it would be lovely to get a giveaway Alocasia variegated from you someday 😍
My guess for the new TC is Philodendron Florida ghost or Florida beauty
Oh I would love a Florida ghost!
Fill a bowl with water and soak the moss ball for a few minutes then just swish it back and forth and the moss will come of easily
Yes very true! This moss was already moist so I figured it was fine but lo and behold ☠️
your son is soo sweet 🥺
Haha he always goes around my plants and says, “bootiful. Bootiful plants”
I'm guessing the unbagged TC plant at the end is a Burle Marx Flame! Anyhoo, great variegated Dragon Scale and I appreciated the step by step explanation of the process. Looking forward to an update on it later in the year when it's had time to grow more roots hehe
The newest leaves are beautiful!!!
I don’t recommend rinsing the agar in the sink. It can CLOG your sinks if you do too many. It’s easier and less work to let it soak in a bowl and use a small paint brush or small makeup brush to clean the roots and the agar (:
That’s a great tip thank you! I’ll do that for this next batch of culture!!!
Hello 👋 bestie ❤
Plants in Jars channel is great for tissue culture if you haven’t seen her yet ☺️☺️
I'll check it out!
Oh so THAT was the mysterious jelly that came in everytime i bought plants
lol yes!!
I’m guessing Florida beauties 👀
Oooooh I do love those but not this tissue culture 🥰
A varigated philo of course... but could it be a Red Anderson?
Oh I do like red Andersons. Not quite though 🥰
philo el choco red for the last tc
Not quite 💛
Congo nuclear TC??
Also have you ever tried using hydrogen peroxide for your TC? Heard some people recommend that
I haven’t! But hydrogen peroxide is good for battling root rot so I can see why people use it to get the roots extra clean
where did you get your monstera rug??
It’s from Labeled Masterpieces and “MICHELLE10” is a discount code you can use
@@ohtheplacesyoullgrow thanks!
Where do you order your TC from??
It’s in my video description!
Knowing you its a rare tissue culture of a philodendron
Ding ding!
Philodendron red congo variegata?
It is a philo! Not a red Congo
Are those spiritus sancti?
Ooooh good eye 🙌
@@ohtheplacesyoullgrow WHOA NO WAY
Caramel Marble or Tortum?
No but great guesses!
Is the Tc you showed at the end a Congo nuclear?!
It is not 😁
😂😂😂 I hate regular mail too.
It’s still in there LOL
Is it little pothos at the end...🐠🙏...also to less fortunate plant enthusiasts don't forget cheap plants grow the same as expensive plants and culture grown plants will become more common just look at how orchids used to be rare...now look
It’s not a Pothos but that’s a good guess! Can Yoo believe I don’t own a single orchid 🥸
Is it orange princess in the tissue cultures or Or it’s this other one that I cannot remember the name it’s driving me nuts
lol it is not an orange princess but you are in the right genus
Michelle…Get yourself a table please! I get anxious when I see you working on white carpet 😞
LOLOLOL especially after the neem spill you’re so right. I need one 😂😂😂😂
@@ohtheplacesyoullgrow You’re funny girl! I love your videos!!
@@ohtheplacesyoullgrow You’re funny girl! I love your videos!!
@@ohtheplacesyoullgrow yeah just like a regular one from Costco...easy to disinfect and put away a folding table 🐠
Can you do a plant giveaway international
I wish live plants could be shipped internationally 😭. But every country has their own unique requirements for bringing in plants and requires specific certificates and permits, which is why it’s not possible for individuals like me to ship plants outside of the US. Not to mention it’s already gamble shipping plants for a few days within the country hoping it will arrive safely. I can’t imagine plants being trapped in quarantine and taking potentially WEEKS to arrive elsewhere! 😭
I understand that that's why I can't join anyplant giveaway
Ok Imma gunna need to start seeing some hands in the normal videos too... lol At least 1!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JUST FOR MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!
It has to be a variegated philodendron because, obviously, this is Michelle 😂
LOL is ittttttttt
Spiritus sancti!?!
Ding ding!

That mail is still there
@@ohtheplacesyoullgrow lol
Rare tissue culture of a philodendron?? 😅 just guessing
Ding ding!
Just so you know, Neem Oil isn’t a fungicide! It’s an insecticide. There’s no reason to soak a TC in neem oil.
Neem oil is also a fungicide (it’s multipurpose fungicide and insecticide) which is why it’s great for tissue cultures and I use it in my insecticidal soap spray as well
