    - About Dr. Mary Claire Haver and The Galveston Diet -
Dr. Mary Claire Haver is a passionate women’s health advocate who believes women in midlife deserve to live their best life. She cuts through fat-shaming and fads, so women are empowered with the science behind anti-inflammation nutrition.
Dr. Mary Claire Haver is a wife, mom, physician, and entrepreneur who has devoted her adult life to women’s health. As a Board-Certified OBGYN in the Houston area, Dr. Haver has delivered thousands of babies, completed thousands of well-woman exams, counseled patients, taught residents, and did everything an academic professor and OBGYN could do.
As her patient population aged, Dr. Haver was overwhelmed with the number of complaints and concerns her patients had with weight gain while going through menopause. For years, she told her patients to eat less and exercise more. It wasn't until she experienced the changes of menopause and mid-life weight gain that she realized this advice doesn't work and ultimately led to her creating and developing a new program, The Galveston Diet.
The Galveston Diet is the first and only nutrition program created by a Female OBGYN, designed for women in menopause. The Galveston Diet helps women reach their health and wellness goals through an anti-inflammatory approach to nutrition. Dr. Haver believes in food's power to combat inflammation and highly recommends the unlimited benefits of intermittent fasting. As part of her ongoing research, she became certified in Culinary Medicine in 2019, specializing in medical nutrition.

But, I got shot down for years..... thank god I finally took my top notch insurance to planned parenthood. I didnt have to beg and fight for my case, they just said "yes, of course thats what you need".... 😭years of needless suffering.

Same. My estrogen started to increase in my 30s not decrease. I now have an estrogen dominance that has caused me to bleed for 3 mos. All other tests came back normal except my estrogen. And every woman in my family has had this issue around the same time in life, which they decided to just get a hysterectomy. My last doctor recommended plant based eating instead, and finally, after 10 yrs of this, my estrogen is slowly getting back to being balanced.

I was diagnosed with Er+Pr+Her2+ breast cancer the week of my 40th birthday. I am 3 and a half years post mastectomy, chemo and radiation. Clear scans. I take monthly Lupron shots and daily Letrozole to block estrogen. I have never prior to daily hormone blockers had an issue with weight gain(among other issues). Since taking a daily AI, I have gained 25 pounds, and I struggle to keep it from going any higher. Those of us dealing with forced menopause to supposedly prevent hormone driven cancer reoccurence need help too!

I have taken Natural Compounded Hormone Replacement (Estradiol, Estrone, Testosterone, Progesterone) for 25 years. I’ve had no issues. It has maintained my heart health, bone mass, muscles, skin, hair and BMI. I know every woman is different. However, with the guidance of a Natural Health MD, DO and my Gynecologist I’ve been very fortunate. I followed a healthy diet consisting of local grown fruits and vegetables. Only eating meats that are organic from local farmers. All recommended by my Natural Health MD. Purchasing local did not costs more than grocery store selections. I exercise regularly and add joy to my life. I’m not so regimented I don’t partake in just normal choices. I choose moderation and still have a full life.
I would never take prescribed synthetic hormones often recommended for menopause. They are known for causing ovarian and breast cancer. Also other health issues. Especially the patch. I did my research before taking anything.

I know he sees a big change in me and I see it to I just literally can’t do anything about it. I hurt all over and tired constantly and can’t sleep at night and throughout the day my stomach goes from flat to looking like I am 9 mos pregnant and it’s hard as a brick. I can’t keep track of anything and forget everything and can’t remember things one second later and stop mid sentence and thoughts are completely gone I can finish simple task and did I mention I forget everything lol it’s hell and I thought this would start happening in my 70’s and 80’s . I pray i am able to get better and get help before he divorces me. We have always gotten along perfect and he has tons of energy and very sharp and I feel like a dull stick in the mud who can’t help myself or others. Prepare yourself. Some men don't know how to be different and better. It's imperative that you put all your focus on yourself for now. When this shit hits and to the worst degree degree. It's every person for themselves. He might decide he has to leave anyway. Then where will you be? Take care of yourself! Research as much as you can. Talk to as many people as possible for information. Never give up on yourself. Once you start to climb out of the dungeon of hell. You will have to tell people to give you space. They will want to be around you. There are wonderful groups and communities of woman you can talk to. Please know you are worth shutting out the noise (aka husband). Never give up on yourself. Often times in perimenopause, estrogen can be dominant over progesterone. It happened to me too. Many women take a supplement called DIM that helps with this. Once a woman is in post menopause, both her estrogen and progesterone are undetectable. That’s where taking them in plant form can be extremely helpful.

I feel your pain. This was my sister too. Look up Benjamin Bikman on CZcams. He wrote the book “Why We Get Sick”. PCOS is often a sign of high insulin. Too many sugars and refined carbs (breads, pastas, rice, etc.) in the diet. Most women with PCOS are insulin resistant. Benjamin Bikman teaches you how to lower your insulin by the way you eat. Also eating too often keeps insulin elevated which is what you want to avoid. When insulin is high, it messes with your hormones causing testosterone to be high. This is why there is the hair issue. My sister had to shave all the time. Most doctors only look at glucose. Glucose can be perfectly normal, but insulin can be sky high. Doctors never check a person’s fasting insulin which is so important. Good luck!!
