- About Dr. Mary Claire Haver and The Galveston Diet -
Dr. Mary Claire Haver is a passionate women’s health advocate who believes women in midlife deserve to live their best life. She cuts through fat-shaming and fads, so women are empowered with the science behind anti-inflammation nutrition.
Dr. Mary Claire Haver is a wife, mom, physician, and entrepreneur who has devoted her adult life to women’s health. As a Board-Certified OBGYN in the Houston area, Dr. Haver has delivered thousands of babies, completed thousands of well-woman exams, counseled patients, taught residents, and did everything an academic professor and OBGYN could do.
As her patient population aged, Dr. Haver was overwhelmed with the number of complaints and concerns her patients had with weight gain while going through menopause. For years, she told her patients to eat less and exercise more. It wasn't until she experienced the changes of menopause and mid-life weight gain that she realized this advice doesn't work and ultimately led to her creating and developing a new program, The Galveston Diet.
The Galveston Diet is the first and only nutrition program created by a Female OBGYN, designed for women in menopause. The Galveston Diet helps women reach their health and wellness goals through an anti-inflammatory approach to nutrition. Dr. Haver believes in food's power to combat inflammation and highly recommends the unlimited benefits of intermittent fasting. As part of her ongoing research, she became certified in Culinary Medicine in 2019, specializing in medical nutrition. - Věda a technologie
Thank you. I had so many obgyn's refuse to give my hrt. Im an ICU nurse with a masters degree and did so much research, all pointing me to HRT. But, I got shot down for years..... thank god I finally took my top notch insurance to planned parenthood. I didnt have to beg and fight for my case, they just said "yes, of course thats what you need".... 😭years of needless suffering.
That is horrible you had that experience. Mine gave it to me and also recommended reading material with it. I started with the patch and it wasn't strong enough I had so much breakthrough bleeding and had to start on Lo-estrin fe 1/10. This has worked for me.
Did they manage to prove that the HRT "Won't" give you C▪︎nc▪︎r?
Only everybody I know who thought it was the answer got C▪︎nc▪︎r & that's v frightening 🙏🏻🇬🇧
Planned Parenthood was able to prescribe you bioidentical hormones?
Planned Parenthood provides HRT?
How long ago was this? Several Drs are prescribing it near me, including GYNs.
Please inform women of the dangers of too much estrogen on HRT. This lack of info almost gave me womb cancer and bled non stop for 4 months
I'm sorry to hear about your experience. I pray all ends up well with you. God bless you and thank you for sharing this.
Same. My estrogen started to increase in my 30s not decrease. I now have an estrogen dominance that has caused me to bleed for 3 mos. All other tests came back normal except my estrogen. And every woman in my family has had this issue around the same time in life, which they decided to just get a hysterectomy. My last doctor recommended plant based eating instead, and finally, after 10 yrs of this, my estrogen is slowly getting back to being balanced.
OMG 😱
@@nikamaalare you sure it was more estrogen or estrogen was high in relation to progesterone?

Looking back from age 56 I really needed to start estrogen at 42. At 46 i developed autoimmune disease. Lots of symptoms I and doctors attributed to the Sarcoidosis were menopausal symptoms not the autoimmune disease. I am on HRT and doing better.
I love her she fights for us ladies for sure. God bless her
I am a breast cancer survivor and still going under treatment. My treatment is an hormones blocker so i went from 128 lbs (i was lean) to 204 lbs!!! I have the "chemo belly" and I'm miserable. As an athletic person and competitor, I have done workouts and intense training my whole life. Since cancer, my life has been turned upside down, and i feel and look like a whale. I'm crying of despair as my bones hurt and now on the path of osteoporosis.
Maybe you should try finding a hormone dr that would monitor your hormones extremely closely. I just started hormones and can’t take estrogen because it causes severe migraines, it’s Intense they are horrible! So I’m trying to add it naturally because I’m miserable and have gained 50 lbs. I don’t recognize myself and feel miserable too. I’m hoping to feel better and look more like myself. My heart goes out to you. I pray you can find a healthier path cancer free.
I was diagnosed with Er+Pr+Her2+ breast cancer the week of my 40th birthday. I am 3 and a half years post mastectomy, chemo and radiation. Clear scans. I take monthly Lupron shots and daily Letrozole to block estrogen. I have never prior to daily hormone blockers had an issue with weight gain(among other issues). Since taking a daily AI, I have gained 25 pounds, and I struggle to keep it from going any higher. Those of us dealing with forced menopause to supposedly prevent hormone driven cancer reoccurence need help too!
Im so sorry and we will pray that your life gets better 🙏
Jesus Christ our lord, please help this woman get better and get her life back so she can do what she used to do that brought her much joy. In Jesus name amen
There's only true comfort in Yeshua, believe that he can heal
God bless you❤ Wish you all the strength to fight these deasises and feel healthy, happy in your body. 🙏
I have taken Natural Compounded Hormone Replacement (Estradiol, Estrone, Testosterone, Progesterone) for 25 years. I’ve had no issues. It has maintained my heart health, bone mass, muscles, skin, hair and BMI. I know every woman is different. However, with the guidance of a Natural Health MD, DO and my Gynecologist I’ve been very fortunate. I followed a healthy diet consisting of local grown fruits and vegetables. Only eating meats that are organic from local farmers. All recommended by my Natural Health MD. Purchasing local did not costs more than grocery store selections. I exercise regularly and add joy to my life. I’m not so regimented I don’t partake in just normal choices. I choose moderation and still have a full life.
I would never take prescribed synthetic hormones often recommended for menopause. They are known for causing ovarian and breast cancer. Also other health issues. Especially the patch. I did my research before taking anything.
I bought some menopause vitamins but I think I'm going to toss them out
It’s to the point my husband can’t understand any of it and thinks I’m lazy and making it all up and that of course leads me to crying and feeling worse. I know he sees a big change in me and I see it to I just literally can’t do anything about it. I hurt all over and tired constantly and can’t sleep at night and throughout the day my stomach goes from flat to looking like I am 9 mos pregnant and it’s hard as a brick. I can’t keep track of anything and forget everything and can’t remember things one second later and stop mid sentence and thoughts are completely gone I can finish simple task and did I mention I forget everything lol it’s hell and I thought this would start happening in my 70’s and 80’s . I pray i am able to get better and get help before he divorces me. We have always gotten along perfect and he has tons of energy and very sharp and I feel like a dull stick in the mud who can’t help myself or others. It’s not me or who I use to be 😪 oh and I eat healthy and take every recommended expensive vitamin on the planet and the holistic measures offer very little to help!
If your husband treats you like this you dont need him or deserve to be treated bad. Seek medical advice for your symptoms, and if he does not start supporting you emotionally, dump his a**

Would he be just being LAZY…if his Testosterone dried up at 50, so he lost his sex drive, began to bald, gained weight, and was in continuous joint pain, couldn’t sleep. I wonder…is this who you want to spend your life with?
You just described my life, except the husband part. I sent my hubby every article I found on menopause several years before it hit me full blown. It still knocked him off his feet, what I was going through. Help him understand. If he's your best friend, he will want to help you.
Prepare yourself. Some men don't know how to be different and better. It's imperative that you put all your focus on yourself for now. When this shit hits and to the worst degree degree. It's every person for themselves. He might decide he has to leave anyway. Then where will you be? Take care of yourself! Research as much as you can. Talk to as many people as possible for information. Never give up on yourself. Once you start to climb out of the dungeon of hell. You will have to tell people to give you space. They will want to be around you. There are wonderful groups and communities of woman you can talk to. Please know you are worth shutting out the noise (aka husband). Never give up on yourself. Hope this helps 🙏 ❤
What if you are 61, gone thru menopause and can’t find a Dr. who specializes in menopause. So frustrating!!!! Hopefully your book will help me, it’s arriving today. My tummy looks like I am 8 month pregnant, I hate it!
Find a nurse practitioner who knows HRT. She can prescribe!
She mentioned in another video North American menopause Society website, where you can find a list of practitioners
My OB/GYN does not "specialize" in menopause. She prescribes my HRT.
As long as estrogen is in the right balance with all your other hormones!
But how do you know how much estrodiol to take verses progesterone. Im on the Estrodiol patch and take progesterone orally. I have gained weight in my hips and my belly
And they think it's only about hot flashes, smh.
Years ago, HRT was recalled because the government said it caused cancer, and women joined the class action lawsuit that was advertised on TV late at night.
Was an Incomplete study. Govt really didn't do that...not that much Interest in us, LMAO
Those women could have already had cancer before taking hrt?

I can attest to the decrease in belly fat when I started taking Sandrena, Estradiol helps the digestive system as well so I was pleased when the constant bloating disappeared. My doctor gives me Micronized Progesterone pill, Androfeme, Testosterone and Sandrena Estradiol plus the Estring 90 day vaginal Estradiol delivery ring. They are pharmaceutical body identical hormones and are covered by the NHS barring the Androfeme. I'm 53 but my body feels like I'm in my 30s.
@@yasmincaan5845could you tell us more about your hormone routine.
I can't find a doctor who will prescribe me anything. I'd pay for it myself if it helps me. I carry a lot of weight on top (in my arms and belly) because my hormones are out of whack. Wish I could get a doctor in my area who would work with me.
I guess everyone is different. I have the Estradiol patch and I am having incredible positive things happening, but 1 con is the constipation. I am eating a lot of Almonds now and this does help. The pro's definitely outweigh the con's so far for me!
Are 'body identical hormones ' natural? I'm just now starting my research and am hoping to find something natural.

My unpopular opinion is that it’s best (for me) to let my body do what it does without my interference, based on the stage of life I’m in. If I was meant to have estrogen in my body at 59, I’d have it. I can live with a changed body and not buy into all the programming we’re inundated with around this topic. Not putting pharmaceuticals in my body. Research Ayurveda.
My doctors really let me down....
What makes a “good candidate”?

When you prescribe estradiol, do you prefer the patch or the pill? When would you use one over the other?
So how can we get the estrogen we need without having to spend thousands of dollars on Doctors for the rest of our lives, its pretty unfair that women have to see a doctor for the rest of their lives just to get what they need in order to be happy and to functionproperly. Food and physical activity isn't enough. Is there not anything over the counter for hormone replacement therapy?
There is over the counter estradiol and progesterone in cream form, but it’s not as strong as the prescription form. My insurance covers both for me. I pay $20 a month. The estradiol patch and the oral progesterone are both made from plants.
@@crh251What insurance are you talking about?

how does a woman determine if she is a good candidate for estrogen replacement? How does she determine if she isn't?
Low estrogen Symptoms, look up what they are, there are many and blood test
@@realdeal8505 my question was to hear Dr Haver speak on that % of women who NOT candidates for HRT. Listen to the last sentence she says here.
If you have a blood clotting issue you can't do HRT.
@@sarahk1977 beg to differ; I'm able to use patch delivery methods of estradiol which does not increase blood clotting risks.
I'm confused...I was told I have oestrogen dominance. With all the symptoms I have, I'm simply exhausted.
Often times in perimenopause, estrogen can be dominant over progesterone. It happened to me too. Many women take a supplement called DIM that helps with this. Once a woman is in post menopause, both her estrogen and progesterone are undetectable. That’s where taking them in plant form can be extremely helpful.
You can have relative estrogen dominance, meaning your progesterone is very low, so estrogen is higher in relation to it, while still having overall estrogen deficiency. In that case, HRT is warranted.
@@ammonitelightthank you so very much for your reply. It has never been explained to me by the Dr or specialist. I am truly grateful.
So much for me (59 yrs old) to learn. Thank you 🙏🏽🌹
How do you raise estrogen naturally?? If you can’t take hormones
Changing of macroses in the food, weight training.
If you've gone through menopause, you really can't because your ovaries are not making it anymore, but you can try eating phytoestrogens or taking phytoestrogen supplements.
I watched a video that they spoke about DIM vitamin which is brocolli, cauliflower I think.

Dr. Claire Haver. After starting estardiol patch 0.05mg and oral progesterone 100mg started having fast palpitations and severe dry mouth. Have you ever has anyone complain about this symptoms?
Then why does the pill cause weight gain in midsection, inhibit muscle growth, cause yeast infections, blood clots etc.
Look up estrogen dominance. A lot of women today have it, including myself, because of all the chemicals and hormones in our daily lives. Most of it comes from our foods.
Because the pill increases androgens as well. Testosterone causes midsection weight gain, not estrogen.
@@haylslouise8428 testosterone can convert to estrogen if you're low
The pill is also synthetic whereas estradiol and progesterone are both made from plants.

When do you know when HRT is better than birth control. I’ve been told two conflicting things from medical providers. It all so confusing 🤔
Of what I have read, the birth control pill is not the best option for menopause. Plus it’s synthetic. It’s better to go on hormones that are plant based like estradiol and progesterone. I wear the estradiol patch and take the oral progesterone pill. Both are made from plants.

at 16 my estrogen level decreased dramatically. i dont even have discharge anymore. im 18 now please help! i can only get wet down there when im with a man but back then i could get myself super wet.
Why have i been told that estrogen is actually bad for us?
Because it's a natural hormone and there's little profit in it.
Because there was a study about 20 years ago called the Women’s Health Initiative. It was extremely flawed, and doctors stopped helping women with hormones. A whole generation of women had no access to any outside help. Today doctors are still convinced about that study even though it was extremely flawed. No one studies menopause in medical schools. It’s sad. Now they are finding out how helpful estrogen is for women’s hearts and bones. It’s very protective. I’m so grateful to be on them in post menopause. I take estradiol and progesterone. Both are made from plants.
@crh251 oh wow. Thank you that was very informative.
@@cara.raines, you’re welcome! I used to be worried about estrogen myself. I understand this is concerning menopause but would supplementing in oestrogen for an 18 year old wi to PCOS help with the overload of androgens? It’s been 6 years and we’ve tried so many things to no avail. 6 years of acne and facial hair
I feel your pain. This was my sister too. Look up Benjamin Bikman on CZcams. He wrote the book “Why We Get Sick”. PCOS is often a sign of high insulin. Too many sugars and refined carbs (breads, pastas, rice, etc.) in the diet. Most women with PCOS are insulin resistant. Benjamin Bikman teaches you how to lower your insulin by the way you eat. Also eating too often keeps insulin elevated which is what you want to avoid. When insulin is high, it messes with your hormones causing testosterone to be high. This is why there is the hair issue. My sister had to shave all the time. Most doctors only look at glucose. Glucose can be perfectly normal, but insulin can be sky high. Doctors never check a person’s fasting insulin which is so important. Good luck!!
What about progesterone? And testosterone? I was low during childbearing years, but no one told me. Then I got on HRT from a compounding pharmacy - no doctor required! And then there’s stress…pls talk about that, and constipation issues no one has been able to help for years. I am a health coach too. …nuts😢 Going to be 60 next month and always looking young. Healthy everything but can’t get good rest…and weight gain after being very lean and fit. I have a lot to do and it’s frustrating as hell.
CoQ10 is a fabulous at doing this as well.

I’m not willing to roll the dice. I would much rather educate myself on foods and exercise. I’ve gained 6 kilos all around abdominal and my sleep is dreadful. I have Brent renovating and my kitchen comes back into play after five months of eating just with an electric fry pan. I hope to boost my diet with more brocolli, cauliflower and Brussels. Plus exercise more - prior to moving I did lose 6 kilos so I know it can be done. Wish me luck

Is it true, that you can gain weight on estrogen? I want all the benefits, bit am obese right now and wonder if I better get my weight down, before starting estrogen.
Is it okay to take it in pull for.? Or should it be better patch?
I read if you take iodine and maca powder it balances estrogen
Iodine elevates estrogen, so if you're dominant it's not a great idea
If you are menopausal you have no hormo es to balance. The body stops producing hormones at this time. BALANCING THEM IS A MYTH!

I’ve been on oral contraceptives since I was 20 and I’m 48.
What does this mean for women who have an estrogen receptor positive breast cancer? Please advise
Love you❤
Nice doctor
Please address those of us who are estrogen positive and are on letrozole. Are we just toasted?
And what about those who don't know they have it. My sister-in-law was taking a bio identical estrogen replacement. When it was discovered she had ER+ breast cancer it was in both breast.
I’m 53 on the Estrodial patch for years now and I have a belly now! I’m so tired of the belly and bloating! I’ve tried everything. I started lifting weights this week! I don’t have any auto immune and thyroid levels are good! Please help with any suggestions. I eat well too. 😢
SHe says low inflamm diet, but it is not easy, Can;t stand the belly fat, and looking 8 mos. along!
@@kp-gh7nnI worry if I quit the patch my severe anxiety may come raging back and with low estrogen as it is I’m not sure what will happen if I come off my HRT patch! I may have to try and see what happens. I was not sleeping off estrogen either and the hot flashes were unbearable. I did quit almond milk and it made a difference. Bloating has gone down a lot!
What is the added progesterone from my birth control going to do when I go into menopause
That's kinda nice to know. However I can't take estrogen due to blood clots
You still can. Transdermal estrogen does not cause blood clot issues.
I’m 40 and my estrogen levels are too high, what can I do to stabilize it?
Do you experience any problems w high estrogen? Same boat. It seems that progesterone acts as a buffer for estrogen and also helps with everything doc mentions here. Try increasing your progesterone levels naturaly before u hit menopause. Women need both hormones even after menopause albeit in smaller ratios.
Estrogen also increases the chance of breast cancer, blood clots,
Take DIM
@@sussannekeith5676 My breast cancer is due to estrogen dominant
Take ashwaganda
Can HRT increase the risk of cervix polyps if you had one in the past?
