610* (500 for flippers, 10 to get Kiki to come with you, 100 to open PoD)
Also, I believe you need a nice 2220 rupees to 100% aLttp (Above 610+700 for arrows, 700 for bombs, 10 for Lvl3 Sword, 100 for first bottle, and another 100 for the Super Bomb). On top of that, you'll need at least another 50(?) rupees for one attempt of the Shovel minigame and Chest gambling game in the Thieves' Town, both of which can get you a Piece of Heart.
Regardless, this video covers more than enough rupees to do everything in the game, just clarifying for others.

There's a "rupee trial" in this game that no one else has ever found.. Or so it seems. There's no youtube vid for it. You fight your way through some enemies, some crows and whatnot, then make your way to a tree, pull on it and it will give you rupees based on how many times you got hit.. 4xgreen, 4xblue or 4xred if you take no damage. i'm starting to think I'm the only one that has found it.
