I grew up with the Sheridan's in Stretford, went to the same school as them, from infants to secondary, big Irish Catholic family, 6 brothers, they were a pretty rum bunch, i was pleased when John made it as a pro, even more so when his younger brother Darren made it in the PL with Barnsley. Good set of lads, you don't want to get on the wrong side of them though !

Easily one of the best central midfielders in the country in his time. Kind of modest saying he played at a decent level. I think he played at the highest level. Scored the winner in the League Cup. Played in the World Cup, scored in the UEFA cup, played in multiple Cup Fnals, almost won the Old First Division title. The very last Old Division Season. I don't think there was much between Leeds, Manchester United and Sheffield Wednesday. I think either of those teams could have won the Title, went down to the very last game, just went down to the rub of the green in the end. Ironically Mark Bright scored the goal against Wednesday. Although in the end it wouldn't have mattered luckily for Bright.
Played alongside the likes of Chris Waddle, David Hirst, Roy Keane, Des Walker, Paul McGrath, Ray Houghton, Chris Woods, Pat Bonner, Denis Irwin, Roland Nilsson, etc etc some of the world's top class players of the times.
    Very underrated player.
Makes me realise that players like Steven Gerrard and Paul Scholes are overrated. John Sheridan was doing what they was doing people have got very short memories... I don't think Gerrard and Scholes international careers was much better than Sheridan's. And his football league campaign from 1989 to 1994 shows he was one of the top midfielders in the country. If you had at least 5 or 6 years of being one of the top midfielders in the country you've done your job
