Beating The Easterly Wind - Barry Sea Fishing!

- UK Sea Fishing at Barry, battling the very strong Easterly winds. Nowadays, Friars Point is one of the more popular South Wales Ray Fishing marks on the Bristol Channel but a number of species can be caught. I caught my first ever Bass here when I was a kid and I have many fond memories.

Hi Gareth, just watching this video, mate you don’t realise what you give to some of us watching your videos, I think you hit the nail on the head when you say it’s a well being video, I am an army veteran and I am diagnosed with ptsd, you have inspired me to get out fishing to clear my head and reflect, when I’m home and I need to chill, I watch your videos and I drift to the shore line. Obviously when you catch it’s even better and the one thing I like is when you say left rod guys and we are allowed to see the bite, it adds to the excitement and realism. So I can say for me and many others, thank you for your entertaining and action videos and all the effort and time you put into them. Thanks (Shaun) 👍 😊

Most of the dog fish looked decant size just giving you a south Eastern report got a decent plaice session in the end once I realised it was a long distance casters game so needed to be on a pier moved on to ray fishing now from Thames estery were I blanked but my boy had a 6half pounder still like you I'm just happy to be there keep up the good work chilling us out❤
Sounds like you've been having some good sport John, well done. We don't really get Plaice where I live and so I have to travel down to the Gower to catch them, will hopefully be down there during May. Nice fish that your boy had by the sound of it, good stuff. Please don't jack in the CZcams channel, as you say, it's not just a fishing channel, it's a well-being channel.
It is for me, anyway.
It reminds me of the great times I had with my dad when we went fishing as you say, fishing takes you back to your childhood fishing days with your dad. The same for me, and I'm 61 now.
Re. The doggies, I love the breed, they are beautiful and so likeable, they've got character, just like our best friend, the dog.
Incidentally, when they curl up and appear to go to sleep, they're actually using it as a defence mechanism and are in fact playing dead.

Definitely, Dogfish are lovely and it's a shame they are hated by so many, those green eyes are stunning and they certainly do have a personality. Can see you were having 1 of those days before the fish turned up, falling over the rocks, horribly cold easterly, thinking why did i come today. Then the rods start going the mood changes suddenly your boiling aswell and all wells for spell 😂. Keep up the good work 👍 garerth.
Haha yes, that's exactly what I was thinking, why did I bother! That wind made the filming a little tricky but the dogfish saved the day as per usual and they kept me busy. Hi Gareth. I have never commented on any CZcams or forum before in my life. I enjoy your videos as i can relate to them. I grew up fishing the Olway and the Afon LLwyd. I also fished a lot of the sea marks you do. Maybe not to the same success as you down there as i never was very good at sea fishing. I have now moved to Amroth where i have bought a farm to try and become self sufficient and stay away from the maddening crowd. I have taken sea fishing up again and have started to catch some bass and pollock over here out in my little boat. I was gutted that i missed you when you were fishing in Tenby, I would liked to have come down and said hello. Hi mate, thank you for the comment. Ah right that's interesting, I still fish the Afon Llwyd and Olway Brook, in actual fact the Afon Llwyd runs behind my house. Well done on buying the farm at Amroth, sounds amazing and I'm very jealous! I wish I could do something like that, the older I'm becoming the more I want to get away from everything, I know what you mean. Some good fishing down that way too and sounds like you've been having some success with the Bass and Pollock, good stuff. Hi gareth, great to see you back wetting a line again I hope all is well, your videos are definitely help us and our wellbeing but they are also very good videos for methods, baits and types of fish that we can expect if we fish the marks. If you are heading newport way I know Goldcliff has had a good few spells for some anglers I know a few good spring cod have been coming out as well as the congers and a few rays, the warmer season is definitely well on its way. Once again great to see you back out and its much appreciated on the effort you put into the videos so thank you for the hard work.

@@riversidewithme cheers Gareth yeah I've been out a few times on the upper channel with the cod saving the blanks for me but even if i do blank ikm glad to be out, seeing alot of mullet and bass patrol the margins/shallows as well which is a good sign of warmth. hope you have a good weekend as well and tight line for the next session

Thanks Scott, it was nice to be at it again. That easterly wind was a nuisance and made the session difficult to film but I enjoyed it. Unlucky on your Cogden session, I guess it can be hit and miss down there just like up this way, although it's sometimes a little demoralising when you've travelled a long way and put the effort in, better luck next time. I'm sorry to hear that Carl, I wish you a speedy recovery. It's horrible not being able to go fishing...I broke my leg and ankle 15 years ago and I couldn't fish for over 3 months, I was going mad ha! No doubt you'll be back out there soon, wetting a line once again. I've been super busy of late hence the lack of videos, I need to sort it out! Take it easy mate, all the best with your recovery! 👍👍

Hi Gareth, enjoyed the video as always. I've been a long term viewer of your channel and I think you're spot on with your videos being well being ones. I don't live near the coast so don't get out sea fishing as often as I'd like. Your videos are, just like you say, something I put on after work to relax and switch off - a lot of other youtube fishing videos don't have the same relaxing theme. I think if you're not enjoying making them us much maybe have some fishing time that's just yours where you don't have to film? Got to think about your wellbeing and if filming is making fishing not as relaxing then that isn't great for you. I think putting videos up less often might be a way of not letting film making becoming a chore. Take care and really appreciate the work you put into the film as always 👍 Roz

I've lost my mojo a little for the filming but hopefully I can find it again, as you say it may be a good idea to upload less often, one or two a month or something like that. The plan was to make one every week but with work etc it's just not possible. another great video Gareth, i like that term "well being videos" you're not pushing advice or trying to teach other fisherman to suck eggs. dont stop doing the vids mate just don't feel obliged that you have to put a a video up every week like some youtubers do all for the sake of youtube point scoring. i enjoy your video content and you get some great footage of the area in which your fishing which encourages people like me to get out and fish those marks. stay safe and well mate.

Great video Gareth as usual. Easterly winds here in kent and Sussex are the kiss of death for fishing. Its like flipping a switch . You did well to get doggies. I know most people hate them but they give a bit of sport when there is nothing else to catch. As ive said before, ive fished for 60 years and i fish now to relax. Thats why i love your videos. Great upload again mate, looks like a great rock venue again, and plenty of action. I know where you are coming from about losing your mojo with CZcams, I've gone through it a couple of times, where I feel the filming takes over from the fishing, and I feel I don't enjoy it as much. Then I get some really nice feedback, about they've helped someone get through a rough period, or helped someone to start to enjoy fishing, and I think ok, I'll keep going. Your channel is a well being channel, and that's why I love it. Filming is hard work, staying upbeat for the camera is hard work. Your efforts are as always massively appreciated bud💯👍👍🎣🎣🙏🙏

Just one thing though, coming from Plymouth and having fished some very rocky Mark's, I know first hand how easy it can be to slip/trip on the rocks so be careful, we don't want to see a video with you with a leg in plaster :).

Many years ago I was out on a charter boat fishing out of Swansea, really made my stomach churn and not through the bad conditions. There was a group who had great fun catching dog fish running a blade through them, laugh and throw it back. When asked by the skipper to stop they shrugged it off saying they've paid the money and dog fish are a pest. Sad that this type of person calls themselves fishermen.
Absolutely disgusting behaviour and I hope karma has caught up with them! There's some cruel people in this world, these types shouldn't be allowed to go fishing. That couldn't have been a nice experience for you, witnessing that. I was down Porthcawl once and I witnessed an angler putting live dogfish in a bin...I saw red and lost my rag which is rare for me but I will not tolerate animal cruelty. I rescued the Dogfish and they were fine. Again, I hope karma has caught up with that idiot. Cheers Jeff 👍👍
