I love that you talk about this. Most youtubers only talk about hypersensitivity...

I doubt my autism diagnosis a lot for many reasons, one is I'm hyposensitive/sensory seek ALL of my senses! I'm not saying everything doesn't bother me, obviously some things bother me, but not most, not even a lot, just some. I've become comfortably numb like that Pink Floyd song. I am either immune to some senses, or seek them out. I love metal music, crazy electronic music, I love smells, I love how I smell, I love soap, certain foods like candies, flashing lights/psychedelic videos, feeling fabric like my bed sheets, etc. I just feel weird and the odd one out.

I'm generally hypersensitive when it comes to most things, but there are a few things that im extremely hyposensitive about. Pain, auditory processing of conversations, and grief.

I've only recently heard about hyposensitivity and a lot of this was pretty relatable especially the delayed stress response. The every autism simulator video I've seen focuses on hypersensitivity and just left me thinking "this doesn't apply to me at all" but I tick all the other boxes and have a diagnosis.

I have hyposensitivity to everything except touch which i have hypersensitivity in, and what most effect me
1- not being able to know when am hungry and am super under weight.
2- not hearing what people say, like i try really hard, and tell others to repeat what they say over and over again which is really embarrassing 😔

Man this is one of those situations where I have experienced a lot of these things in my life and people didn't believe me when I told them.

Hey omg thank you so much for making this video! I relate to soooo much of what you talked about! I been searching for videos/people sharing about HYPOsensitivity ever since my doctor sent me to get an alignmen appointment for autism assessment! I really appreciate you sharing your experience ❤

not diagnosed, but wanna be. anyway my family often talks about something that ive never heard about as if i should know what it is, and when i question it they say that theyve had conversations with me in the room before about it. sometimes its when im at the dinner table right next to them. i just dont listen if im not actively in the conversation so i dont know. it has been as serious as a family member getting a divorced, and i never know until weeks later because someone finally mentions it directly to me. apparently i miss out on important things every day.
im also constantly stimming to the point that my muscles hurt and by the time i notice they hurt a lot. im also very oblivious to things unless im really trying, a fact that others make extremely obvious and make me feel stupid for.
god i wish i could get tested.

Thank you so much for this!!! I fit so many things for autism but don’t have the sensory issues so I thought it couldn’t me because of this! I’ve felt this all my life

So how do you react to tickling? Is that stimulus enough to register to you?

    • @HolisticAutistic

I hate it lol I've never thought about it in terms of sensory processing before! But yes, it does register with me, and I hate being tickled haha good question!

So many of these things on the hyper and hypo side of things sound relatable, and I feel like non autistic people probably experience these things too in varying degrees. How can you diagnose something like this?
