  • How to use a moisture meter for measuring lumber or firewood. I just got this TopTes TS-630 pin-type moisture meter. I will learn and demonstrate how to use it. The lumber being tested is Douglas fir, milled on my Woodmizer LT15 sawmill. It and the firewood was cut from my forest land. The splitter at the firewood pile is my home made wood splitter.

my moisture meter is rapping two pieces of wood together. if it clacks, it’s good to go . if it thumps, probably not. thanks for the good content.😀👍

A person once told me, never put anything in an email you wouldn't want your mom reading. So, applying that logic, I'd say don't give her any wood you wouldn't be willing to show her the moisture content meter reading for. Or maybe you could just ignore the warnings, feed the meter to a bear, and give whatever wood you want to your mother. Just give her extra hugs as you might not get anymore for a while. Wait, what was the question again?

I really like your videos and the way you talk, good information and common sense. I have been burning fire wood for about 40 years now, can tell the moisture level of it when I pick up a piece, the wet ones are heavier than the dry ones, duh! And it works for me.

Love the photo bombing turkeys in the background at the end of the video!

Nice demo, thanks. I like burning Doug Fir too. Fun-Fact ; This winter, I tested a 2in x 2in piece of Tamarack at 14%, brought it into the house, dried it even more by sitting it on the wood stove for awhile. Retested it and my meter reading was non-detectable. - N Idaho -
