They Were BORED with LS’s! - NEW World Record!

- Our friend Doug Cook and his team over at Motion Raceworks really decided to push the envelope on this build, but in the most laid back way! Instead of chasing the record for a platform that is so commonly found, they decided to open new doors and see other ways reliable power could be made. With virtually no seat time and no real world data, they set off on the journey to challenge it all during Hot Rod’s Drag Week 2017 while chasing that record breaking pass. Unfortunately for Doug, the inevitable gremlins from a fresh build kept them from gathering much needed data the first few days but after pulling out the GM wiring harness they were able to resolve the issue and get back to progress! This car is a testament to upcoming builds and factory cars with a Gen V LT4 engine, We have a LOT to look forward too!

Persistence pays, I went an entire season with shifting problems before figuring out the the input shaft wasn't making it into the pilot bushing. I'd bet He's done much better than that 7:73.
Drag week..’yeah I’d love to set a world record and get an 8.80!’ A few weeks later runs 1/3 track with wheels up and smashes a 7.70!!! That is outstanding!! 🔥🔥🔥👍🏼👍🏼

Let em rock, seat those rings. If anyone tells you otherwise it’s because they want to rebuild your motor.
Pretty much all new car owners manuals tell you otherwise. Engineering Explained says otherwise.
Blacklist Builds Motors break in within the 1st hour of them running.
the 20 miles on the motor before they went to dragweek would have been the break in period I would say. Most serious builders break them in on an engine dyno not the car itself. once in the car and tuned get that pressure up and seat those rings.
Engines are machined within the micrometer.
You can run them hard as soon they are in operating temperatures.
You have to respect temperatures more than the mileage.
tolerances are precise enough to not have to rub the parts on each others to match them together like before.
Got bored with the Chevy in my Chevy so took the Chevy out of the Chevy and replaced it with a Chevy. XD

LOVE IT! Congrats on getting it together. Wiring gremlins and the other issues you had can be terribly frustrating but not unexpected on a fresh build. Great work throughout that engine bay.

He owns motion raceworks you guy's should check it out. Doug's the man when it comes to buying parts for your LS or new LT. This car was a development car for him so he can offer parts for the swap.
His website still sucks a year later. Wonder if he's still in business?

well that depends on if the camaro had been stripped or not because you can strip way more weight from a modern car that an older car because of all the electronics in them, not to mention the fact that nova's are not light, they have been for their time but a nova isnt much lighter than a modern camaro
Jonathan Rutledge Novas from that era weigh in the LOW 3000s...Camaros are in the HIGH 3s to low 4s....thats a MAJOR difference....and they still are considered very light weight...most modern "sports" cars are pushing 4k...even the Vettes are up there past 3500 now...
Jonathan Rutledge base c7s are 3300 to 3400....Z06s are over 3500
i will admit i had made a mistake, i usually have the mind set that 400 pounds isnt that big of a difference, but in drag racing it really is. but for all we know the weight of these 2 cars in their current state is not all that different, considering we have never seen either of these cars weighed. once again i admit i am wrong. in drag racing that is a huge difference. in every day use that really doesn't matter.

The only difference between an LT and an LS is the direct injection and cylinder deactivation....
And i do believe that the gen 5s have variable timing too

Never seen a car dialed in that hung just on the edge while getting the max to the wheels. That was awesome.
Cool to see people running LT's, but as history will show, 90% of people wont be running them until you can trip over them in junk yards and buy them for peanuts like the LS currently and the SBC was before the LS.
LT's been around for quite awhile, though. Before the LS. Granted, not this new gen 5, but LT's have some history behind them.

Holy shit! 7.73! That last pass was worth waiting for! Wheels in the air for half track. Lol. Takes a while to work the kinks out on any new build but they figured it out pretty quick to be fair.
Fair play to these guys for doing something different. LS's are pretty much all you see these days, or the 481X.

when they wheelie a little but not too high so it sticks, thats the max thrust you can get out of it before adding wheelie bars, this car was set up great after the technical issues, thats why its all ls and not many lt eh

+ STAGEIIGN - I had a dual fuel system in a mustang I used to race, I ran pump gas in my fuel cell ( just to attract attention and show off at the gas stations )and I ran race fuel in the factory gas tank. I had a switch that belonged in a school bus where I could switch to pump gas when driving around town and back to race fuel for a race. Duane

Chevy makes shitty 4 cyl cars, shitty interiors, etc. But their v8 and transmission are god like.

kelly, you actually have to do more work to chevy motors to get the same hp as other engines. the only reason you think it takes less is because the parts are dirt cheap. mopar and fords can make better power with less parts, but they cost more.
It's makes me happy as an LT1 driver to see a new LT record being set. Glad to see that there's some intrest in them still

they were probably maxing out the amount of power of the other gen so they are trying a hand with direct injection from the factory so when they add it the entire thing is designed for it and alot of people don't understand how much of a difference between the two is in pressure like 100000 lbs and a carb needs about 5 😂

its a DSLR vs a video cam. one has lens built for high def images and the other one is a lens included in the cameras body. you can hear the auto focus motor on the camera when it focuses.
Which sounds annoying and the shake.. but none the less a quality pic. Frame rate seemed a little slower tho maybe it's me.
Honestly I wouldn't mind some sort of stabilizer like a steady cam, or even better a gimbal. The picture is beautiful though.
